Those news are confirmed to be fake, I'm afraid. They just went viral because they supposedly came from a trustworthy source (whichever that is xP).
The movie will be all CGI, so there's no need for animatronics or real life sized lion models.

Yes, it seems to be a fake.
But I think in modern CGI they still create models of complex characters, maybe not in 1:1 size.
I think those are from Ghost and the Darkness. Such an underrated movie with great music, btw.
