There's actually a thread about why it's called Lilymud.

I think it was just because the owner of Lilymud (Chianti) had already bought the domain name www.lilymud.com (at the time It's .net now) before she hosted the TLK forums for Cally (The owner of the Ezboard "Lilymud")
