Gotta love those tornados! Anything natural that can level acres of houses or farmland in a couple of minutes has got to be admired, especially as you can't do a goddamn thing about it.

Ahh yes, that was all over the news yesterday morning and my lecturer even mentioned it in class. The earthquake was really strong, 8.1 or something, and I'm not suprised they had the warnings for the east coast of Aus. up in Queensland, I'd be scared, heh.

Not quite as serious as some other news posted in this thread, but it's something I think everyone should be aware of anyway...for the sake of knowing some of the bizarre things the media relays to us if for no other reason...

Alas, the actual story has expired and I can't find it on Yahoo's webpage anymore...'twas from Feb 28th...but here's what it said:

Wed Feb 28, 1:04 PM ET

Wed Feb 28, 1:04 PM ET

OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

"I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Such alien technologies could offer humanity alternatives to fossil fuels, he said, pointing to the enigmatic 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico -- which has become a shrine for UFO believers -- as an example of alien contact.

"We need to persuade governments to come clean on what they know. Some of us suspect they know quite a lot, and it might be enough to save our planet if applied quickly enough," he said.

Hellyer became defense minister in former prime minister Lester Pearson's cabinet in 1963, and oversaw the controversial integration and unification of Canada's army, air force and navy into the Canadian Forces.

He shocked Canadians in September 2005 by announcing he once saw a UFO.
It's gems like this that make me happy I still use Yahoo on occasion...though I did a double-take when I read the headline.

"This is Art Bell, with Coast to Coast AM. Just in: aliens will help us fight the global warming."

I find this story (http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...,00.html?f=rss) kind of sad. I mean, sure, pets are great, but this....

Yeah, my brother thinks that david Hicks thing is ridiculous that he's doing that, so I said "well, if you were in his position, you'd do exactly the same thing wouldn't you?" and he responded with "damn straight. But that's not the point, it's still ridiculous." lol...

Now why do I think that any typical emo or goth would find that heaven?
    Sounds messed up.

Has anyone heard about the 15 Royal Navy personnel captured by Iran? They apparently went into International Waters and thus got captured. I think Blair is doing the first thing right since joining the Iraqi War and *"not looking for confrontation" and "the most important thing is to get the people back safe and sound". *

That's a rather large accusation of stereotype... yes it's messed up. But I'm not sure anyone would find that heaven, being in darkness, alone for so long really gets to you. Anyway, as for the Royal Navy thing, no I hadn't heard about that.

I just hope that Red Dwarf gives more than candle light if anybody plans to start shipping us homosapiens out that way.

They'd have to freeze-dry us in baggies and ship us out in rockets that could somehow sustain a flight of 120 trillion miles. Then by the time we get there, it'll be like year 5852...hey man...sign me right up. I could afford to get a little farther from the reality of mankind.
