My parents only buy the computer... they let me set up everything (hardware/software) so I set myself as the computer adminstrator/main acct. so I can do the controlling!

My Computer is mine. I bought everything myself about 4 years ago so no one put any parenting controls on mine. No one really uses it anyways except for me. When I can move out, I already have two TVs, a bed/couch , my computer, a radio, a few shelves and dressers that I bought myself. Plus people are going to give me things like dishes, so I'll be set.

Cool that you managed to avoid the parental control.

Which brings me to this question...

My mum hates me downloading stuff. She always acts as if I've been downloading viruses, when I've just been downloading stuff like AIM, YIM and WP. (She made me delete all of them.) So my question is, what should I do?

Ask her why she thinks that you would knowingly download viruses, since you (I'm assuming) use the computer more than she does, and you would stand to lose more if you had a virus...

Monai, Your mother is apparently not very computer illiterate. Once you download a virus, simple deleting does nothing. Explain to her that her demands acomplish nothing. You can also try downloading stuff when she's not around. Unless she spends alot of time on the computer, I doubt she would ever notice.

Besides, AIM, MSN, and YM are downloaded from the safest parts of the web. I'm sure you have family or close freinds with this stuff on there machines. Have then confirm the safty factor for you.

I am the computer administrator for my computer. My mother didn't know how to use MS Word withot my help.

I reinstalled WP. I don't even know how my mum finds out about this stuff, since she's hardly ever on the comp.

You can't catch a virus from downloading those applications usually.....but I'm not sure about the risks of possible back-door attacks using the ports those applications occupy.

I know. My mum's always like, "Stop downloading all this crap onto the computer!", and she doesn't even know what it is.

My mom had Norton Parental Control. I killed it though and found out that she blocked me from chats.

    I can't believe she doesn't trust me.

My mom made me a computer admin... then again, I don't think she even knows she could've made me a lesser account

My quick solution: I use my computer account but my mom's internet account.

but then you'd probably end up doing something you don't want yourself to do and then blow up your computer, and then where woult that get you?

Hope to see you back soon Prince Simba, hope you can sort the computer stuff out.

My dad was the computer guy, he always set up everything but now that my parents are divorced my bro is the one that sort of manages things, he's not an expert on computers but he knows enough and I know enouugh, and the computer still works so it must be all good. I don't think we've ever had anything on our computer blocking us so it's ok, my mum hardly uses the computer but she does know how to use it, she takes a little while to do things but she gets them done. hehe, anyway...
That which you manifest is before you.

I have parental controls. Your parents just want to keep yo from seeing things that are EXTREMELY innapropriate. I got cheesed off about having parental controls @ first but then I realized "It's for my own good.

    So parental controls are good.

You will have the same realization I had when I was 12.
