I totally thought that too! It's interesting to find out that other countries do it too

I've never heard of that 'Flanders Fields' poem before though. I feel guilty

Yes, it is veteran's Day. I was supposed to go visit my grandfather's (A WW2 veteran) grave, but couldn't make it.

Our time on this planet is precious, and can be snuffed out at any moment. Every second of every day should mean something.

We had a 2 minute silence in Primark (a department store) where I work today. I feel pretty half-assed though because I never bought a poppy for it, and I only got paid today so I didn't see the point seeing as it's pretty much been and gone *sigh*

I had a minutes silence which was cool, it's nice to think about all those who died, it makes it so what they did means something and their lives wern't just wasted.

Woah, the US and Australia have the same kind of holiday on the same day? Cosmic..

I don't know if I would call it a sad day though, I think it should be a day of pride. It is to me, to be proud of my countrymen who've defended out ideals since it's conception.

My dad's a vietnam vet. I'm just glad he made it out alive, or else I wouldn't be here.. Heheh.

Yes, you know... just like Christmas and Easter hehe

Both my poppa and my grandpa served in a war, (it's really bad of me that I don't remember which one, cos I think one of them served in the second but the other was something else I dunno, I never really ask about it cos I feel bad and don't wanna make 'em upset or something) my grandpa was a lighthorseman from what I can remember....

Also I know a guy who served in Vietnam, I feel so sorry for him because he's been so badly affected by it, it hasn't left him at all. It's good to hear your dad made it through Pat, couldn't have you not being here.

Hehehe, those are religious holidays though, that's a little different.

And your grandpa served in WWII? That's really cool I think. I wonder if he served in Africa, or maybe even at El Alamein? (Is a bit of a WWII buff at heart, hehe.)

And I'm glad that you're glad that I'm here Becca.

I -think- so yes, though I couldn't tell you any more details, hehe, I personally find the history of wars boring, although for some reason I love war movies like saving private ryan and band of brothers series. I mean, obviously they're kinda completly different but I really have no interest in war... although last time we visited my poppa we found his old army trench coat, it's really cool and he has photos from the war

I asked my mum about it today, her dad served in WWII in New Guinea and my dad's dad was up in Darwin.
