Who cares? It's the computer owner's choice how to have his or her desktop. Are you confusing efficiency with tidiness? Because sure, an emptier desktop looks neater, but that doesn't mean to say it's any more efficient than a cluttered desktop. It's all about opinion and what people prefer using. People like TL may find that desktops as busy as his are more efficient to them. It doesn't boil down to what just one person thinks.

I love my shortcuts on my desktop...

If I have to go to START and then browse through everything, I can never find a program as quick as I can find it on my desktop.

So yeah, everyone's own choice And I don't really care how someone else does it, hehe

    My desktop! Widescreen, baby!

As you can see, my desktop is truly minimalist. Even my Start Menu is minimalist, but then I don't have that many programs on here because it's still a relatively new machine. I totally can't have anything cluttering up my desktop.

I've had a bit of a problem finding really nice high definition wallpapers in the 1400x900 size - so for now, I'm using one of the Vista desktops. Anyone know of a good place to get widescreen desktops?

I care about it. That's why I said "I wonder how people can have it that way".

...it's not more than a question to exactly those people - or ain't I allowed to ask such questions?

...oh and Lucy - yes... THAT'S minimalist :P

An emptier desktop looks neater and is for the person who doesn't mind not having shortcuts.
A busier desktop looks like it has a purpose and is for the person who wants shortcuts.

Empty = Looks nice rather than practical.
Busy = Practical and looks nice with a simple picture.

    Take my desktop -

Its a simple background with all the shortcuts I need not being that intrusive. Find a balance and it works ^_^

Ok, I agree with the fact that a desktop with less icons looks neater but is it really a big deal? I have loads of icons on my desktop too, and I do think that it looks a bit disorganised. But I still know where everything is, and I think that's all that matters.

    Anyway, here's my newest.

Even if that desktop is that old - it's a relief of your "computing behavior". As I'm a software-developer myself, that's something of interest for me

As tikkeri said, Its my Computer *hugs My computer*,
Nobody ever said different. I think it's just interesting that you people can work with such a setup :P

    You aint touching it
You aint telling me what is best.
You Hug Your own Computer, and do what ever you like
You sure you've deactivated your remote desktop support? :P

To King Simba: that's a cool background

Talking about "shortcuts"... I believe the fastest way to execute applications is still that one:

    :P

Because it's what they're used to I imagine. I "prefer" a tidy desktop, but if it gets lots of icons on it I don't mind since I click them all the time so I know where they are.

...it's not more than a question to exactly those people - or ain't I allowed to ask such questions?
    Of course you are, it's just that the way you asked the initial question made it sound like you were saying that anyone who has an untidy desktop is doing it wrong. And there is no right and wrong when it comes to a PERSONAL desktop (;

That totally sums me up. I'm always more bothered about how things look than how practical they are. I have everything organised into subfolder after subfolder. Sure, it takes time to find something, but I don't care about that. I'm just so superficial, hehe.

I really love your desktop picture, it's great!

    And yay for Creative!

Are we really bickering about icons? That's awesome.

Dyani, where did you find that picture? It's awesome.

If shortcuts really should be fast to reach, then put them in the toolbar instead, then you dont even have to go to the desktop at all since toolbar is always visible *ish a icons in toolbar freak*
