    Lion King magazines

Since there are a few here that are interested in these.
And I posted this before the crash, so I'll re-post it ^^

These magazines were published in 1995-1996.

I know for 100 % that they were sold in these country's:
    - Belgium / The Netherlands: only 3 issues where ever published in Dutch
    - UK: 80 issues (also says Malta on the back of these)
    - Australia: ? issues
    - France: 104 issues (according to a wiki page I found http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Roi_lion_(magazine) )
    - Spain: ? issues
    - Ireland: ? issues (TV add http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DibHMY4ptZQ)

With each magazine you would get some free stickers, cardboard displays to make your own Pride Lands, doorhangers, etc etc ...
The French issues mainly also came with a music cassette, I don't know what's on them though.

Each issue has lots of information on Africa, animals that live there, recepies, puzzles, crafts, coloring pictures, and other learning and fun stuff.
They also have stories, which mainly are spread over 3-4 issues for each story.

    These are the Dutch issues.

These are the ones I got from the UK.
This picture shows the first 10 issues incl. their free gifts.
(I have all 80 also + the first 40 without the gifts, but no picture of all of them).

    These are the French issues.
I also got 80 issues of these, because I found them with their gifts, lol (without the cassettes unfortunetly).

    This is a Spanish issue.

Differences (so far the only ones that I know of):
    - first issue does not have the same cover in every country
    - stickers within the Dutch issue are different from the UK issue ones
    - 2nd issue does not have the same free gift in every country
    • Dutch issue got a sticker book
    • UK issue got a book "Simba and Nala help Bomo" from the "Disney's wonderfull world of reading" series

Also, inside almost each issue is a pamflet to order a sweatshirt, a cardboard box-thing to put all the issues in, binder to put all issues in, t-shirt, backpack.
For each country it would be a different gift you could choose from.
The backpack + binder which you could order for the Dutch issues, could not be ordered with the English issues.

Any more information or pictures are most welcome :)

Nathalie's pretty much covered it all, there used to be a DA group which has since been removed, but you can still read all the "Hakuna Matata" stories from the magazines online here: http://s281.beta.photobucket.com/use...tata/library/? (you have to click the little arrow on the left hand side to "show albums and stories")

I love all those stories, they're very nostalgic for me

Actually, Kanu managed to get me the first 40 issues last year when she was still in the UK, and they are still at TL's place, finding out a way to ship them to me for a fair price.

So I have the first 40 double myself.

Got some new news on these magazines.

    There are Italian editions also!
They go up to at least 52 issues (don't know if there are more).

    They look quite different.

Wow, yes the Italian issues really do look different. I've managed to get the UK issues 1-40 as well. But without the gifts... Still they are really hard to find, but I'd love to complete my collection. I've also tried to find some informations on the German issues. Some fans claim that they are real, but until now I didn't find a single issue... But I found all the issues of the Little Mermaid in German. *lol*

Really? I think I have to keep my eyes on ebay then... Currently there are some magazines from the UK, yes. But they are really expensive. I mean around 5€ for one issue? That's crazy XD

But thanks for letting me know

Yeah, some ask a lot per issue. But lots pop up aswell.
    It's the shipping that's a pain

True, true. But as long as Greatbritain is still a part of the EU I don't have to pay extra taxes which is a good thing. With issues from the United States, I'd have to pay the shipping costs and the taxes...

Ah well, I guess I just have to be patient. At least I've got the first 40 issues here

But is it really true that France has even more issues of this magazine than the UK/USA? O_o

I don't pay any taxes when it comes from the US. I think in these past 10 years, I may have done that 4 times. I'm quite lucky I guess

    Yes, France should have 104.
I came across them a while ago on ebay, they went above issue 80, but wasn't complete till 104.
The tapes that come with those, are actually the stories that are in the magazines, put on tape to listen to.

I thought as much. The German Arielle magazines had some tapes with them, too. There were songs from the movie and on most of them the stories.
