Attack of the Recolor-Artist!
First of all, I didn't draw these comics. My husband found them on DA a few days ago and I also thought they are hilarious and so I wanted to share them with you. They were drawn and uploaded by NostalgicChills on DA.
However, the topic is a rather serious one. There have always been people who just take Disney Cliparts and after recoloring them, they upload them to galleries like DevianArt, TLKFAA and others. I remember that a few years ago there were regular "Art Thief"-Hunts. Especially on Lillymud.
In my opinion that was a dark era for fan-artists. Taking other people's art or poses (like screenshots) is not the right thing to do, but exposing artists and calling them names is not good either. So I think NostalgicChills aka Ebony did a very good job by creating this comic. She addresses that topic in a funny, entertaining way. Perhaps some people will realize that what they do is neither original nor clever.
And I can so relate to that! Poor Kiara... ;)
I admit that I've also used "bases" (I think that's the word?) of Disney Characters to draw. I didn't directly trace them, but they were more than just references. However, I soon realized that I limit myself by doing so and I finally managed to develop my own style. It was not easy, but it was worth it. I don't draw much anymore, because I simply lack the time and I haven't put much efforts in becoming better recently. But apart from that I think I've learned a lot back then.
