"Way over there..." She gestured vaguely in one direction. She was obviously a little reluctant.
Taka looked in the direction that she pointed, and wondered what was actually out there.
Merra went to join him, looking to where he was.
"Do you live in a clan? Pride?" he asked. Perhaps she was a rogue....
"Er...Well...No..." She replied, again unusually nervous. She didn't want to lose her only chance of a true friend...
"A rogue?" he said exasperately. His eyes wide, he gaped at her confusedly.
"A rogue." She said finally, quietly.
Taka looked to the ground in disbelief, although his face was emotionless. He chose not to ask about her past, lest it stirred up any unwanted memories.
"I'm sorry!" Merra suddenly blurted out. "I'm sorry for what I am, please don't hate me, my friend!" She flopped to the ground, stirring up dust. "My only friend..." She whispered.
"I wouldn't hate you for that" Taka said defiantly, aroused by the sudden outburst of the red cub.
"Yes, you would! Everyone does!" She suddenly sobbed.
"Well, if you'd really like to know, I'm sort of an out cast as well" Taka said with refinement as he licked his paw.
Merra sniffed, her eyes were questioning, but of course, Taka couldn't see them.
"Even though I'm prince, being second born makes it seem like I'm just like any other cub" he explained.
"Poor Taka. I think you'd be a better king than... than..."
"Mufasa" he said politely. "My older brother...takes on more of my father's looks"
"Well, I think you are handsomerer." She got her words wrong in her recurring shyness.
"How would you know? Have you met him? "he asked snappily, not meaning to be rude.
"Er, well, er, no, but..." She had become slightly jumpy after Taka's snap. "I have seen the King...Your father..."
"Ugly brute, isn't he?" He said with a smirk. He noticed how snappy he was being, and muttered,"Sorry...a little sarcastic..."
