I've got a travel bug really bad right now. I'm trying to convince my dad to take us to Houston so we can see the show there.

San Antonio --> Houston = A nice 3-hour drive. I'm sure he'd do that, that's pretty much exactly the distance I drove from Seattle to Portland to see TLKOB, and I did it twice. 3 hours is really not that bad at all. Did he see the show at all when it was in your hometown? If not then it would definitely be worth making the trip.

And it's not like you're gonna see it seven times again ;) (you craaaaaazy cat)

There's a lot of stuff to do in Houston too I'm assuming so maybe you guys could leave early in the morning and kind of spend a couple of days like a mini-vacation.

Good luck convincing!

He didn't see it when it was here. He did see it in New York though. He waited at the door with me for the cast that never emerged. :( I'm working on it. I'm just afraid that he'll be "It's Houston or DisneyWorld. Take your pick." Unfortunately, I'd have to choose DW. Buuuut TLK will be in Austin in February and that's a MUCH shorter drive.

Hmm, yes this thread has kind of died, I think all the rare and awesome TLKOB pics that are out there have been shown already but that's a good thing of course!

I'm currently working on transcribing the ENTIRE script of TLKOB, including songs and basic stage direction... it's a huge project as one can imagine, It will probably be done (after extensive editing) by next week, definitely something to look forward to! A script of TLKOB is one thing that I absolutely cannot find anywere, I've seen it only once on ebay by a former actor's family and it sold for $60 or $80 I think.

I'll let everyone know when it is published on the web!

That would be good to have.

I've still got to get that other clip up and I also had my video camera outside the regent theatre in melbourne. After I add some music to that I will upload it.

Awww Tim. I was working on one too. I got Act I done and then I had to stop because work picked back up. :( I wanted to be first. Maybe I'll race you. Or how about this, since I've got Act I done, you do Act II and we can share zee glory. :D

Lion_King_300
June 21st, 2006, 06:45 PM
Wow... I didn't know we were working on the same thing! I'm almost done with Act I myself... um... I guess I could start with act two and go from there but then I'd pretty much be done.

But I'm guessing that your formatting and stage directions are quite a bit different and probably more detailed than mine, because I'm sure you have more experience with live theatre than I do.

Actually, on second thought, we should probably just do our own or else someone would have to do a lot of editing... I'd be fine with publishing at the same time even if I finish first. Or maybe after we both finish we can compare the scripts and note differences, etc and then still share credit.

Either way is fine, I'm pretty busy too so I won't be finishing anytime real soon. Let me know what you'd like to do. Are you using the same DVD as me???

HasiraKali
June 22nd, 2006, 05:08 AM
I'm using my memory and the Cheetah company *cough*stuff*cough* I have. ;) I noticed that that DVD has a lot of differences from the production I saw. And of course, different actors do different things. It would be really cool to do an original cast one but I have no reference material other than my somewhat foggy memory. :)

Yes, I already noticed a few (minor) differences between Larry Yando and the guy that played Scar in L.A., some might ad-lib their lines to a certain extent too so it would be great to read the real script to see what they're supposed to say, next time a TLKOB script pops up on Ebay one of us has to win it!

Zaya
July 19th, 2006, 11:00 AM
Yeah, I basically prepared myself for an understudy. I was like...ok lets do this...I wanna see an understudy, that'll be fuuuuun...then the woman on the "radio" didn't say anything about understudies and I was like...well OK, maybe they won't tell...and then he swung on the stage...actually I was freakish happy about it cause he's just amazing, but shhhh...

Can't wait to see him perform =D

I have some Simba pictures from The Legend of TLK at Disney Paris.
I have no idea who he is, but I'm sure gonna found out, haha.

He's from the French version, the English one was full, and the other English shows were too late for us.

He was really cool, you could just tell how much fun he had on stage.
And in the end, I even got a hand from him *wOOt*, and looked at me sometimes ... haha, also looked into my camera when I wanted to take a pic, but by the time the flash went off he didn't look anymore :(

Look Amanda, he glistens ^_^

YAY, now that I've seen it I can vote on this poll xP

My favourite scene for me was CYFTLT, although all of them were great in their own way. I loved how they created the stampede, although Simba's running was a little amusing =P

Only 2 more days until I leave for China! Looks like the Simba for the Shanghai production will be Turanga Merito of the Melbourne production unless something got changed.

Been looking forward to this for a long time now, we got such great seats! (front of orchestra, middle left on the aisle)

I dropped TONS of hints. I even told them WHERE it was, and what the bargain prices were like. My mom said, "I heard it wasn't really good"--but of course I said that I REEEEEALLLY wanted to see it, it got RAVE reviews. But I never saw it :(

Wow, I can't believe I'm back already. Just yesterday night I was in the Shanghai Grand Theatre watching the show, and now I'm sitting in my chair 1/2 a world away. (not counting all the time I gained from the time zone difference, of course!)

Well, I have lots of pics and a really nice surprise at the end so I'll start with the TLKOB Shanghai pics (since this is the TLKOB thread, of course!)

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/grand_theatre.jpg
The majestic entrance to the Shanghai Grand Theatre, featuring an enormous ad in front and acacia trees bordering the glass doors

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/tlkob_shanghai_1.jpg
Another HUGE ad they had near the side entrance

The much-beloved main rag in all its glory

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/translation.jpg
These screens displayed the script in Mandarin Chinese so the mostly non-English speaking audience could follow along

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/simba_mask.jpg
http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/nala_mask.jpg
Much to my surprise, Disney put life-size masks of Simba and Nala in the theatre lobby

For those of you curious about the show, there were two major differences adapted for the Chinese audience.

The first was during the "Rafiki's Tree" scene, at the end of her story she said "Do you understand?" in Chinese, which drew a huge laugh!

The second was during "The Madness of King Scar" scene, instead of singing "It's a Small World After All" Zazu sings perhaps the most popular Chinese song ever, "wo ai ni ai zhe ni," loosely translated to "I love you as a mouse loves rice."

Here are a few more things I noticed that were different from all of the U.S. performances I've seen:

1) There was no gopher! Zazu stuck his head completely in the gopher hole. I think only one other time did the gopher not appear at all.

2) About 5-10% of the audience came in late, and there was a TON of side chatter and flash photography throughout the show, despite adequate warnings.

3) There was a loud crash at the beginning of the Stampede scene as Scar was instructing Simba to stay on the "ledge"

4) Probably safety-related to #3, neither Scar nor Mufasa were flown for the Stampede scene , they performed the "Long live the king" part from the ledge level, greatly diminishing the effect as Mufasa simply staggered backwards instead of physically falling.

5) The shower curtain from the IJCWTBK scene was said to be from a "Flea Market," although there is an IKEA store in downtown Shanghai I believe they changed it so it would be easier to understand for the Chinese audience.

More pics and stuff to come!

I was also fortunate enough to make it to the stage door in time to get pictures and autographs of a bunch of the cast members.

We (my mom, sister and I) were the only ones back there that night, so it felt like a private VIP party and it sure was fun to meet and talk with them.

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/rafiki.jpg
Buyisile Zama as Rafiki put together an incredible performance, she had one of the most rich, powerful voices of any Rafiki I had heard on stage. Some of you may recognize her, she started out as Rafiki in London's West End production of The Lion King.

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/Zazu.jpg
Terry Bader as Zazu, to be honest he didn't quite perform up to my expectations. Not a great singing voice and didn't show as much enthusiasm in his character as Derek Hasenstab (U.S. touring), who sets the bar for all Zazus to follow.

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/young_nala.jpg
12 year old Jana Baldemoro as Young Nala, can't help but admire the spunk and cuteness, just like young Nala in the film. BTW that's my sister, but I'm sure most of you figured that out on your own! :D

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/young_simba.jpg
12 year old Tarik Frimpong as young Simba, he was great! One of the best young Simbas I've seen, a good singing voice and solid acting, he knew what he was doing on stage. A treat to watch and surely a successful career to follow.

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/timon_pumbaa2.jpg
http://students.washington.edu/tim300/china/tlkob/timon_pumbaa.jpg
Hangin' out with John Xintavelonis (Pumbaa) and Jamie McGregor (Timon), they came out last as their extensive makeup and costuming took time to remove. They had more onstage chemistry than any other Timon/Pumbaa pair that I've seen - for example in the scene just prior to CYFTLT where Timon goes crazy, Pumbaa took out his tongue and gave his buddy a nice wet lick to help him come to his senses, never seen that before! And in real life they were the same way, feeding off each other, easygoing and fun to talk to, seemingly inseparable.

And for all you hard-core Simba fans... the big surprise is coming up!!!!!! Are you ready?

;)

Awesome story and pictures Tim! I also have some things I want to say about seeing TLKoB in London, but I just haven't gonen't around to yet. I guess I'll do that now. :D

Hey you know what? In London, Zazu sung, ""Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious". (I had to look that up to check how to spell that, who actually knows how to spell that word?) STM said, maybe it's more Brittish, but I think they did that, because of that new Mary Poppins Broadway show that's showing in London.

It was really awesome seeing the show in London. He Lives in You, was so brightly lit, like the stars were really bright and Mufasa was shown really bright. (Since before London, I've only see a touring cast) But that doesn't really surprise me. Tim, you told me it was like that when you saw the show in New York, and since the show in London is always playing in the same spot, like New York, it should be that way. It was really neat like that though. You could feel the seats and floors shake a little too, during certains scenes, like the stampede. (Same as for you when you saw the show in New York, right Tim?) Plus it was so awesome to see TLKoB with some many Lea members. Most of us sat next to each other, and in front or behind each other, it was so great. I bought a London TLKoB glitterly shirt, (It has the Houses of Parliament on the shirt) and that TLKoB Charm Bracelet.

It was lots of fun! :cheese: There are pictures in this thread: http://www.leahalalela.com/showthread.php?threadid=8296

YES! I was able to meet Turanga Merito!

I had heard many good things about him, but he absolutely blew me away. An excellent high alto singing voice, and he certainly gave everything he had into his character. And yes, he glistened. A lot. I wasn't paying too much attention to that particulat detail but I think he started really sweating close during Endless Night. I think he hit his high point at the end of the HLIY reprise, it looked like someone waxed his chest!

Not only that, but I also had the pleasure of interviewing Turanga briefly about the show, and other things, which I will present to you here. It may not be exactly word-for-word as I had to read my scribbled notes, but he has some really interesting things to say.

Turanga is a truly nice and wholehearted person and I feel so privileged to have met such a talented and geniune human being. I wish him the best in whatever direction life takes him after the Shanghai Lion King company comes to a close.

I hope everyone out there enjoys this one of a kind chance to get to know him, and that you have as much fun reading it as I did interviewing him.

Brief Interview with Turanga Merito, ?Adult Simba? in the Shanghai TLKOB production

Conducted after the August 15, 2006 performance in Shanghai, People?s Republic of China.

Birthplace: Rotorua, New Zealand
Training: Charisma Church, 1997-2003, Rotorua Lakes High School, 1997-2003
Theatre: Joseph (Christian City Church), The Wizard of Oz)
Television: Pukana (New Zealand), Coca Cola Christmas in the Park (New Zealand)
Other: Jireh Perf. Arts Group

TW: Hello, are you Turanga Merito?

TM: Yes, that?s me!

TW: Great, I thought you looked like Simba. May I have your autograph please?

TM: Of course! My pleasure. Did you enjoy the show?

TW: It was fantastic, and you put on an excellent performance yourself tonight.

TM: Thank you so much.

TW: May I have the honor of getting a photograph as well? I have some friends back home that are huge fans of yours but were not able to make the trip, so it really means a lot for get the chance to meet you in person.

TM: Oh, wow, that?s wonderful to hear. I?m flattered I have fans!

TW: So the Australian company is in Shanghai for how many shows?

TM: 100 shows I believe.

TW: Do you know how far this show is in the run? It?s about halfway through, right?

TM: Well, we?re going to be here through October and we started in mid-July, so it?s
about half-over, yes.

TW: Are you enjoying your stay in China? Do you like Chinese food?

TM: It?s quite different from any place I have lived. I LOVE Chinese food, my personal favorites are the Shanghai fried rice and dumplings.

TM: Is this your first time seeing the show?

TW: I came all the way from the United States to see The Lion King in Shanghai? Actually, it is my seventh time overall!

TM: SEVEN times? That?s amazing!

TW: Well, I figured I would never get to see the Australian cast since you guys left, and that this might be my only chance.

TM: Yes, after we finish up [in Shanghai] I think that?s going to be it for us.

TW: Oh no! They have nothing else planned for your company?

TM: No, not as we speak. I?ve personally been with this cast, for oh? about two years now, first in Sydney, then Melbourne, and finally here in Shanghai.

TW: That?s quite sad news to hear though, I imagine it will be hard to break up this extraordinary group of talent.

TW: Now, are you from Sydney?

TM: No, actually I?m from New Zealand, born and raised there.

TW: Do you miss home while you?re on the road performing in The Lion King?

TM: I do miss seeing family, but I do like the weather up here. Right now it?s wintertime in Australia and it?s quite cold, so when we finish up in Shanghai and go home it will be turning to summer down there!

TW: Ah, so that works out perfectly. Shanghai is much too hot and humid for me.

TM: So you said you were from the U.S.?

TW: Yes, I?m from Seattle in Washington State.

TM: I knew there were some English-speaking people in the audience tonight because
some people were laughing at our jokes! Some nights nobody laughs, it?s quite awkward.

TW: Indeed, I noticed the Chinese audience reacted very differently than American audiences do to certain parts of the show, sometimes they laughed when they weren?t intended to and didn?t laugh, as you said, at the many jokes in the show.

TM: Something else interesting I noticed was that I guess in China they allow photography in the theater, we?re not used to seeing flashes go off like that!

TW: Yes, that was quite disheartening and distracting to see. Actually, I think it?s more like they don?t know proper etiquette in live theatre, though it was announced very clearly before the show started.

TM: The audiences don?t heed the warnings, and [as a result] we now have clips of the show appearing on Youtube, and all over the internet?

TW: Yeah, I don?t know about that... It?s good that theatergoers are showing interest in the show but people need to have more respect for this show and live theatre in general, I think part of it is that this level and kind of theatre is relatively new to Chinese culture.

TM: Definitely.

TW: By the way, I absolutely loved the way you guys performed the ?He Lives in You? reprise tonight, they way it was backlit with the swirling dots of light, the ghost mask, your and Rafiki?s singing, it was just absolutely spectacular, even better than all of the United States performances I?ve seen. That is my favorite scene in the whole show, very moving and emotional.

TM: Thank you! I love performing that scene as well. I heard a couple people go ?Whooo!? really loud after that scene ended?

TW: [laughs], yeah that was me, and someone else higher in the balcony! We have to show our appreciation for your fine efforts!

TM: Were you able to get good seats?

TW: Yes, we got great ones, they were in the front stalls, right in the middle about 15 or 20 rows back. Just an experience of a lifetime to travel around the world to watch the Australian Cast perform the greatest show on Earth!

TM: I bet it was, and sounds like you had a great time!

TW: Well, thank you so much for your time, Turanga. I don?t want to hold you any longer.

TM: Oh, no worries! I was waiting for someone anyways.

TW: Are there any more cast members coming out?

TM: Yes, Timon and Pumbaa will be coming in about fifteen. They?re always last out,
can?t miss them!

TW: All right, sounds great. Good luck with the rest of the tour!

TM: Thanks, it was great meeting you!

(Same as for you when you saw the show in New York, right Tim?) I bought a London TLKoB glitterly shirt, (It has the Houses of Parliament on the shirt) and that TLKoB Charm Bracelet.

Yes, it was just like that in New York, but in Shanghai I dare say that scene was even better. it's kind of hard to describe, but if you remember there are grass-like long leaves that hang down as Rafiki is showing Simba his "reflection" and the song begins... well those leaves were speckled all over with dots of light, and as the song begins, they kind of blend into the starry night background, I didn't even notice when they went away, and there were so many 'stars' in the bg (I'd say about twice as many as in the touring production) and they were backlit so well when Mufasa's mask was being brought out it made this incredible swirling effect, almost like you were looking through a kaleidoscope, the whole night sky was swirling with stars... and it all led up to when the ghost mask came out... wow the overall effect was amazing.

I do hope if the Australian Cast folds that Turanga gets to continue the role if he wants to in the United States or the West End, he seems to love his job!

Oh, and you got the TLKOB Charm Bracelet!!! I've been looking for that for EVER, but they didn't have it in Shanghai. I got the TLKOB hat with the lion head logo, a laser-cut keychain with the same logo, a TLKOB Shanghai Mug and the Official program (it's really nice and has full color pics like the U.S. program but also has info about the cast and people that made the show, as there were no playbills distributed in Shanghai)

I found that souvenirs were on average 30-50% off what they cost in the U.S. at the Touring productions (T-shirts were $12.50 USD, $25 usually, the mug was $6.25, normally $10, the plushies were $10, usually $15)

And I totally forgot I have a movie to show you, I was able to capture most of the curtain call and since I got a new camera the zoom and quality is much better than last time in New York. The file size is pretty big, but it's worth the wait. Enjoy!

awwww...I wanna see it too :( But I'm sure not for another 3 or 4 months.

Love the clip Tim. Btw...did you ask Turanga for an email or something :) That would be lovely =D

Maybe he could come to perform as Simba in London after Brian finishes? ;)

Lion_King_300
August 18th, 2006, 07:53 PM
You know, that never occurred to me to ask him for his e-mail. I was just in awe (you know how sometimes people freeze when they're around celebrities) most of the time I was there talking with him that I didn't even get to ask him some of the questions I wanted to, such as "what was it like to work with Julie Taymor" or more technical stuff about the show and rehearsals. I really wish I did though, of course I'll probably never see him in person again.

I haven't looked into it much, but possibly through the Chinese Lion King website
http://www.thelionking.cn/english/
you can see if there's a way to contact Turanga or other cast members.

HasiraKali
August 18th, 2006, 08:20 PM
You could try writing to the theater. My dad got me an autograph from one of my favourite bway actors by contacting the theater and asking for them to give him a message and he called my dad back! :D My dad got to talk to him. I was so jealous.

Zaya
August 18th, 2006, 09:04 PM
Oh, yeah, it's not a problem to get autographs...they always send it...

And yeah if you write to the theatre, putting the actors name in ( ) you can write to him or her and ask for an email or something...but it is alot more personal if you ask them right there...

Oh, and Tim, yeah I know how you freeze around such people...but I think you learn trough time they're just as much human as you are =)

Lion_King_300
August 18th, 2006, 11:18 PM
Oh definitely, and the great thing about Turanga was that he acted so personable and humble he was really easy to talk to... but I look up to these people so much it's still hard sometimes.

I'm sure being in a foreign country where this kind of musical theatre is a relatively new thing, and the fact that not many people speak fluent English, they don't get many fans at the stage door. They sure seemed happy to see us!

Is anyone going to try write to the theater?

HasiraKali

Zaya
August 19th, 2006, 08:51 AM
Cunning plan in action! ;)

And yeah, I guess they don't have many fans in China...but really, there aren't many fans in London either. I dunno, are they too shy or is it just not...a thing they'd do?

Zaya

I translated the text I saw about it.

Today Thomas Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Productions, together with componist Lebo M. and theater producent Pieter Toerin announced that there will be an African Lion King on June 6th, 2007 in Johannesburg (is that the same in English?) The cast will mostly be African people who already played in TLK productions. The theater, Montecasino, will be specially rebuild. It'll be a dream come true for TLK to move to South Africa, like Schumacher said "the circle will be complete".

HasiraKali
August 31st, 2006, 08:28 PM
It'll probably be in English though. Phantom was there and was in English. It was also mostly made up of stuff from it's Australian production. Wonder if it'll be the same for TLK :hmm:

Zaya
September 1st, 2006, 09:28 AM
To the SA production: Yeah I guess it'll be in English...I'm sure there are more African people that understand and speak English than English people that understand or speak Xhosa, Zulu or Afrikaans in South Africa...so probably English. And I'm sure they'll make some effort since it's actually the country it's supposed to be in :)

Thank you so much for sharing that, Amanda! I'm so glad they decided to show that scene from the show, I like it a lot better than the Rosie clip with Jason Raize though it is similar.

I thought they were going to do the whole thing with the ghost mask and everything, man that would have been sweet.

Great clip, that I think is the "lost" TLKOB clip no one has ever posted that online.

And yes, Clifton Oliver is not the strongest singing Simba I must admit! That title would belong to Roger Wright I think, but Wallace Smith and Brandon Louis were both very good as well.

nathalie
September 13th, 2006, 08:17 AM

Like, where he played? So I can add him to our website with more info, haha

Lion_King_300
September 13th, 2006, 08:24 AM
Yes, I know a little about him.

He was born in Salem, Oregon and his mother lives in Seattle, Washington where I'm from. He performed in the Lion King Gazelle tour since Early 2004, originally as an Ensemble member and Simba understudy before moving full-time to the Simba role (good change, he got nothing but rave reviews as the leading role) a few months later.

He now is on Broadway as an ensemble member and Simba understudy at the Minskoff Theatre and has been since the end of the 2004-2005 Gazelle Tour.

Here's more info from the Playbill:

Credits include: Smokey Joe's Caf? (Gladys Knight Tour), South Pacific, Carmen Jones, Songs for a New World, and Once on this Island. Soloist at Carnegie Hall and on The Today Show. Stanford graduate. "This one's for my Creator, family & friends, Bobbie, Marc and Chris."

Hope this helps!

Yes, the booklet has the entire Japanese lyrics in Hiragana (Kanji is really Chinese that the Japanese stole, Hiragana is their distinct "alphabet")

Would you like all the songs? If I were to scan it it would take a long time... but I think that's the only way I can get them online. Let me know what you would like me to do, and I'll try to get it done by this weekend.

Nice find Zaya! I should send him a message, I wonder if he remembers me from Shanghai... :hmm:

I imagine not too many people went to the stage door over there. And they've only got 10 days left over there until the Aussie cast is done, the show wraps up October 12th. One can bet that will be a very emotional performance on that night.

Interesting! But I usualy like songs in their original language. There are so many versions on youtube that it could listen to them all day. If you are interested i add some links.;)

Anyway, I don't think we have ever meet in this thread. I'm Rok (my real name).

Me too.. i heard so many of them that i couldn't belive it (russian version of We are one is so good to me). I like remixes and diferent versions too. I'm collecting all TLK songs. You know how it goes... Download this, ask for that, it really entertains me.

Hehe, yeah, I know how it goes ... Some people started calling me a soundtrack freak (only from TLK soundtrack though).

Getting mp3's is easy ... getting the original CD's, that's another story :s

HasiraKali

What I love most about the different language versions of TLKoB is the different orchestrations for each production. I think my favourite is the Japanese one. The orchestrations for the films are pretty much the same across the board, but it's still cool to hear them in different languages. :D

nathalie
October 10th, 2006, 07:58 AM
I don't like that little part in CYFTLT though, on the English CD you don't have it, but on all the others you do, just before they start singing again in the song after a minute or so just hearing the music, you hear this trumpet thing or something, I don't really like that little part.

So, you asked me in PM to add some links about TLK music in diferend languages as I said. It's so simple that you dont need links. Just go on www.youtube.com and type song's name.

I think that this is even better:

just click on an album, there is everything.

WOWSER! That would be interesting to see. Possibly, this coming summer I might be heading to see the TLKOB in New York or Philadephia?

I'm not sure. I heard from a good friend of mine went to both theaters and he said the one in New York is way better than the one in philly.

I even asked him to get me the book pamphlet so I can get more info and to have it for me.

Ever since it came to New York, I always wanted to go see it and also if I have time to get tickets to see the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire show right there too. I have to see when I can buy the tickets.

That's cool and I'm interested to see the lyrics.

Dang, that's an awesome seat! Lucky that seats that close are still available, I have a feeling that since TLKOB has been in Florida a few times before (Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, and is going to be in Ft. Meyers soon) that the show won't sell out as quickly as some places - like Seattle! Even singles were entirely sold out for virtually every show months before the tour even came.

I'm going on the closing weekend, January 12th with one of my friends from work, and (almost certainly) Hasira_Kali and her sister. It will be the 8th time for both Hasira_Kali and myself to see TLKOB, wow! :wow:

I originally bought only two tickets, but purchased another set of tickets today, the best I could find on the 12th side-by-side were row K (a bit misleading at the Bob Carr P.A. center because the closer rows are AAA-CCC then AA-KK then finally the single letters) but they are very close to the aisle in the center orchestra section. A few months ago the best tickets were only in row G, left Orchestra a few seats away from the aisle which is why I'm shocked that you were able to get a CCC seat for Friday night!

I can't wait. It's going to be such an awesome trip - my first time to Orlando and WDW.

Yeah I saw it in NY in 2000. One of Jason's last performances. :(

nathalie
October 20th, 2006, 08:50 AM
Closer to the Simba puppet? No no no ... Closer to the guy who actually plays Simba ... :p

Haha, HK, he scared me a little too ... that's why I can't decide weather it's Winston or not, haha

HasiraKali
October 20th, 2006, 02:50 PM
But in that show, there isn't an actual guy who plays Simba, it's just a Cam Clarke voice over. :( Otherwise, I'd sit on the float.

Oh and OT, Tim: I just saw pictures from rehearsals of the Finding Nemo show. It looks AWESOME. If it's not open in January, I think we might be going twice next year. Here's a link The Word of Nemo (http://72.30.186.56/language/translatedPage?lp=fr_en&.intl=fr&tt=url&text=http%3a%2f%2fwww.dlrp.fr%2factu-us_animal_kingdom_nemo_musical_143.html)

The one in Hong Kong is similar because of the floats. That's what I meant. I think. :hmm: I saw a video on youtube with the floats in the center of the theater going in a circle. I know they don't do that in AK.

TLKOB really needs to come back up to the Pacific northwest soon... I know a lot of people that didn't get a chance to go the back in 2004, and are regretting it.

Because of the fact that the show was just in both Spokane and Portland, however, means that we Seattleites will probably have to wait at least until 2008... :hmm:

And the show has been performed (or will be very soon) in Florida FIVE times in the past 3 years... whats up with that?

Double post but eh. I got my tickets. I ended up with two performances for now, opening and closing. I might go again in the middle, it'll just depend on my budget. I was also pleasantly suprised to find that tickets from UTPAC are much cheaper than Ticketmaster and they don't have service charges. I got orchestra seats for $50. Which, as people who frequently attend the theater may know, is awesome. Now they're not exceptionally close but they are on the aisle, rhino side, aka house right. I am excited. :D Now to book my other two adventures. :D

AND I saw the show last saturday, 8th time (muahahahaha), London of course....Brian Temba as Simba AGAIN! (Nath, you really aren't lucky...), I think there were two understudies but you know me, just listening carefully if they say adult Simba :D

It was soooo fantastic, because they had so many technical problems and made us all laugh, together with the cast, once they even had to let the curtain fall for a couple of minutes :) And my favorite Mufasa had singing problems :( poor guy

Anyway...I told myself I wanna see it one more time, then I'll just stop...I don't really wanna see another Simba

I just uploaded a new video to Youtube that I'm sure all of you will like - it was a TLKoB documentary/special that aired on a local TV station while the show was in Seattle Washington from December 2004-January 2005.

Some of you may already have seen this as it was briefly hosted a while ago, but this is the first time a program like this has been made available to the public. It was originally recorded and edited by me.

It's hosted by 7-time Emmy award winning broadcaster Steve Pool, better known as the longtime weatherman for Komo 4 news. Includes interviews with the cast, crew, directors Garth Fagan and Julie Taymor, and lots of cool clips and info. It's missing the wrap-up section though - but it's only a couple minutes long at the end.

It was very difficult trying to reduce the file size and length of the clips to fit youtube's restrictions, and I finally was able to do it without buying any software online! (aka downloading numerous freeware and shareware programs and using the ones with more generous restrictions) :wow:

Enjoy, and I'll see if I can upload other TLKOB videos to youtube in the near future.

Lion King: Backstage Pass part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAw4Ns7KYg8)
Lion King: Backstage Pass Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eY7cBVkbhU)

Oh, and if anyone wants me to send them the show in its entirety, just PM me. ;)

I uploaded another one! This new video is the "Lion King - Behind the Curtain" special that aired on KATU TV in Portland last year. The program is in its entirety and it is quite different than the other program I posted earlier.

There's a focus on puppet and mask co-designer Michael Curry as they report from his design company in Oregon, and there are some great clips from the show and in-depth interviews. This is my favorite TLKOB documentary ever, enjoy!

Back on topic. One of the girls at work is trying to get tickets for TLK in Austin. We spent about an hour looking for tickets for her and her boyfriend. We found some fairly good one on the orchestra aisle. I was like "GET THEM GET THEM!" But she has to wait until payday next week. I hope they're still there when she goes to order them. She was really bummed that she missed it when it was here.

Sorry Amanda, should be fixed now ;)

And for everyone, I uploaded two more clips:

The first one is just about the complete Curtain Call from when I went to see The Lion King in Shanghai last summer. The audience there was much more reserved than they are in the States and there was not nearly as much whistling and hollering that I was are used to hearing - and no standing ovation??? Features the Australian Cast, August 15, 2006.

The second one is my favorite Dutch Clip (the awards show is already posted numerous times on Youtube) the appearance of Gino and Carolina on Life & Cooking performing Can You Feel the Love Tonight. I did edit it to remove the talking before the scene starts, though some of it is kind of funny.

Nooooooo! There is no cure for Simba-itis.

"-itis: Suffix meaning inflammation. For example, colitis is literally colon inflammation."

Sorry to hear that you have inflammation of your Simba! Doesn't sound good - probably should go get that checked out

;)

Anyway I just posted a couple new videos to Youtube after a lengthy absence (I've run out of TLKOB stuff to post and I have a lot of subscribers asking for more!)

The first is from the 1998 Tony Awards featuring all the additional information and commentary from the nominees, I joined all the separate clips together as one (most of you have probably seen them) and also the storyboarded "Early version" of the CYFTLT scene as featured on the TLK Special Edition Laserdisc which is now obsolete. Enjoy!

The goofy Simba laugh. It cracks me up every time.

Perhaps I should rename my disorder then. :hmm: Simba is most definitely not inflamed. ;)

I have to say the stampede, even though it was sad it was very interusting how they did it. Unfortunatly the people sitting behind me were laughing and saying "haha mufassa died" :(

It is very clever. :) When/where did you see the show?

Yeah - the burning question in my mind before my first time was "how in the world are they going to stage the stampede scene???" and it was great, just blew me away like the rest of the show.

I found an article featured in the Tennessean newspaper about the Lion King's run in Nashville, and I think it's one of the best overall articles I've ever read about TLKOB. Enjoy!

Superdoglac...where did you see it? When did you see it? Who did you see in it? LOL :)

Yes there is a cure HK!!! There is a certain medicine...it's hard to find it...and even harder to get it...but when you do...just get the tiniest taste of it, you become totally addicted...I believe you know what I'm trying to say ;)

How's the harem BTW?

HasiraKali

 I would think that the medicine you speak of would only make it worse. ;)

The harem is sulking. I'm sick, so I'm avoiding them. Don't want them to get sick. ;) Especially when they're dressed quite scantily and out in the cold.
