I know that 2 Die FR has his own thread for his poems and I didn't want to invade it so I've made my own. I wrote a TLK themed poem last night, I've never written one before but I felt compelled to write it, I'm not sure if I'll ever write another TLK themed poem so feel free to post any that you have, in this thread.

This poem is basically about Simba's indecision about who he is and what he feels about his past and his future.

How to Be (16/3/05)

I?ve always longed to be
Everything but me
Since that fateful day
When I was chased away

I?ve called so many times to you
Unknowing of what I?m to do
Where did you go?
Where did you go?
I?m all alone, I?m here
I eat my share and have friends near
But they can?t ever fill
The hole I left the day that I did kill...

...Father, where are you?
I?m sorry I?m not true
To my kingdom, in my past-
My heart died, I cannot last
Away from my pride
For which you died
For me, you died for me
So that I could just be free

But I am not free father
Blood covers my fur
As the sun sets on your time
It rises hauntingly on mine
If it weren?t for me you?d be here
But you?re not and therefore I fear

To go back and risk fate
To face all that I hate
There?s so much that I love and miss
To return would truly be bliss

But my mind is a torrent
So much anger and resent
Would it truly be the right way
To return and have my say?
That I?m sorry, make things right
So that at last during the night
I won?t be haunted in my dreams
Of what could have been
If on that fateful day
We both got away
From the raging stampede
That made us both bleed

Father you did not die in vain
For I have been in so much pain
I understand what must be done
You were the king, I am your son
So lead me home my father
And the past will up and stir
I?ll pin it down, confront it
And cease my running habit

I have ignored, until this day
The words which you, to me, did say
Just how to do the right thing
And become a lion king

...wow Azerane, I very much like the way you captured the essence of Simba's emotions and feelings during the latter half of tlk, and the usage of a simple rhyme scheme but it was quite effective. I especially liked the "raging stampede that made [them] both bleed." The inner conflict that Simba goes through in exile, the guilt that he has when he feels sure that it is his fault that his father died, the emptiness and loneliness for being away from home for so long and never receiving the promise made by his father that he would always be there, the misery and confusion for not knowing where he should go or what he should do... This has to be the underlying reason for why tlk is so enduring to me, even as a teenager, because all of these thoughts and feelings are very real in my life. How to Be just wonderfully captured that picture.

wow, very good Azzy. wonderfully done. love the contrast of the rhyming(generally makes a poem happy and cheerful) with the sad topic. ;)

Put any poetry based on TLK-any of the movies-on this thread!
YEAAAAH BOY!!! (LOL Little John) :haha:
Anyway....
Yeah....I wrote some Shakespeare-style couplets(they were HARD to write!) based on the first TLK movie. Here they are:

TLK Part 1
On the plains of the great and vast Pridelands
Mufasa and Sarabi bore a son
Forever ruining Scar's chance to stand
as King and thus foiled all of Scar's fun
So a plan formulated in Scar's head
a plan to make the King and Prince fall dead
With the help of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed
The great Lion King Mufasa was killed
and young Simba ran across the desert
while with evil pride the lion was filled
not knowing that young Simba wasn't killed
but with Timon and Pumbaa the Prince was
unawares of the darkened days amassed
and several years with the strange duo passed.

TLK Part 2
With a flaming red mane, young Simba grew
Surpressing his past with a strange saying
the truth of Mufasa's death few did knew
Wracked with false guilt Simba still attempting
to live Hakuna Matata with friends
not knowing his home was about to end
Until with emerald green eyes Nala came
And in love they fell, "betrothed" but a name
But the dream faded when Simba did learn
of the Pridelands that took a darker turn
After Scar tried to woo her Nala ran
to get help the lioness knew she can
yet still afraid of his past Simba left
making Nala feel that Simba was daft.

TLK Part 3
With Rafiki the young lion did meet
the old mandrill making him feel the heat
teasing Simba with nonsensical chants
and filling his head with some insane rants
but serious Rafiki became then
to remind Simba of his father when
In the Stars Mufasa appeared again
telling his son that he wasn't mundane
then leaving to watch new events unfold
and with glee then Rafiki did behold
Simba's return to his old cubhood home
and confused was the duo that did roam
Across the deserts Simba again ran
Choosing to ignore Scar's long-ago ban.

Good start, but your iambic pentameter's a bit off in some of them.

Merged the threads, we already have a thread for TLK poems ;) The search option is a nice tool to use :)

Very nice though Marikunnin, I particularly like the first half of Verse 3.

TLK Part 4 (Couplet)
Devastation and death met Simba's eyes
his home where no herds roamed or birds that flied
Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa joined his side
though the latter two went 'long for the ride
distracting the hyenas was their job
their luau making them chased by a mob
Nala went to get the lionesses
and Simba went to confront his uncle
After trying to hurt Simba with lies
Scar then attacked Simba to make him die
Fire and smoke surrounding them they fought
Simba justly enraged by what Scar wrought
Hyenas and lionesses then clashed
When Scar's evil plans by Simba were dashed.

TLK Part 5 (Couplet)
On the ground Simba felt his eyes grow dim
Then the Prince saw Scar leaping to pin him
He threw Scar, determined to make all well
and into hyena jaws Scar did fell
Rain then soaked all who lived below the sky
water cleansing the lands for what drew nigh
For Simba climbed Pride Rock to claim his Throne
With triumph Simba and his Pride did road
to the stars their spirits then went to soar
Simba's return that few of them heeded
Then time passed; this is what the land needed
the Circle of Life almost completed
A cub to Simba and Nala arrived
And the Pridelands under Simba did thrive.

END

......those were REALLY hard to write...and yes, I know that the iambic pentameter was off in a few of the lines, but still...
