So found this this article: http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/disney-releases-details-lion-king-blu-ray-2d-and-3d-release-04-25-2011

It states that there will be an 8 disc set released with all three movies.. however, I couldn't find out if it meant TLK 2 and TLK1 1/2 will be on blu-ray as well. Still looks like the cover is that atrocious one.. :woe:

EDIT:

here is the amazon link for the trilogy: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B004WDRT7I/panandscathed-20 the box is beautiful but due to the art on the discs it looks like the cover is for sure here to stay.. the TLK2 art is even worse! It also says that the discs are the TLK 4 disc edition, plus the other movies in both blu-ray and DVD... This is also the only way to get TLK2 and 11/2 on blu-ray, they're not sold seperately so it looks like i'll be paying much more for this release than I thought

I quite like the box for that amazon link. Although do you notice, that on the coloured strip around the box, there's Zazu, then what looks like Kovu behind, then clip-art of Nala in Simba's colours, then some random bulky female lion with scar's colours and a HUGE pointy chin!!! What the heck is that about? :p So, I don't think that strip can be legit, I would hope Disney has a little more sense than that. But the box is nice. Though I've also seen this one, which is absolultely gorgeous http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/MOVIE/23040_the_lion_king_blu-ray_collection.jpg

But I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

haha yeah the strip is brutal.. I hope that box you posted is the official one? I also had no clue they were putting the others on blu-ray - woot!

Ugh I really hope they choose something else. They have time.

The strip might actually be legit. Atleast the "dark lioness with pointy chin" looks like Zira from the official Nordic DVD cover http://www.disneyinfo.nl/images/dvd/FI-LionKing2.jpg . Even there the colors are off, though not as much as on that strip. And yes, it does look dreadful.
Maybe the light colored cub is supposed to be Kiara? Looks more like her to me, with being next to Kovu and all.
Maybe the colors just look darker that they are in the picture because that side of the box is in the shade. But it wouldn't be the first time Disney has got the colors and design wrong, just looking at the Nordic DVD release.

Edit: Switched the link.

Azerane
April 26th, 2011, 06:06 AM
Your link doesn't work... but otherwise, you could be right about the kiara part... forgot about her

In any case, some of the box designs are really nice, but the additional graphics are not so much :p

I quite like the box for that amazon link.
Me too. But yeah, I wish they would change the cover art to something else, but if this is what they've made final, then I guess I could get used to it. It's just disappointing to see the characters in that way. :notamused: Hopefully they'll do something different, but I don't see that happening now somehow. :p

I actually like the box art. :) I know the cover are the big part of the marketing or aesthetic of art but I can't wait for the content of the product to be honest. 8 cd's for 330 MYR? I definitely digging all the content on this one.

KanuTGL
April 26th, 2011, 06:17 PM
And here I thought that they couldn't possibly make Zira look any worse than she does on the SP DVD cover... I have been proven wrong

The box itself does look lovely though; so I guess someone designing cover art at Disney at least has some sense :p

Wauw, that Blu-Ray box set looks beautiful o_O

I don't have a Blu-Ray player, and probably never will, but I do know that just like in 2003 with the DVD's, I will try and get all special editions (Blu-Ray and DVD) hehe.

Hehe Revo, your link goes out to a picture I provided for that website.
It's the Finnish TLK 2 edition, which STM got for me ^^
This should be the correct link http://www.disneyinfo.nl/dvddetail.php?film=1708

$80? Seriously?

I never really bothered with the sequels (I've never even seen 1 1/2!) but I'm looking forward to the original film coming out on Blu Ray. I'm sure the cover will go through some changes, they always put up temporary box and disc art for a while until it's released. Frankly they should come here and the other community boards and ask us to vote, after all we're still talking about their damn movie nearly two decades on!
:p

Have seen some of the French covers?
They are so beautiful mostly even from old movies being released again, and what does the BeNeLux / Brittain get? Ugly re-newed covers :(

Today the TLK official facebook page changed their profile picture to the advertised blu-ray cover.. I'm guessing its for sure now that that picture will be on the cover.

The box could be plain white with 'The Lyne King' written on it in biro and I wouldn't care...it's the disc inside that matters...and what's on it!

The DVD will be re-released with a new cover as well: http://www.amazon.com/Lion-King-Matthew-Broderick/dp/B001AQR3JY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304025774&sr=8-1
The cover is better, but far from perfect. In general, I don't like these modern looking covers. It's looking way to much quickly in CGI rendered. I associated TLK with wonderful hand drawn work and they have so much nice scenes and pictures in the movie, why do they have to 'create' a new cover?

A definite must for my Blue-Ray collection but this year it's getting a bit expensive with Star Wars and Lord of he Rings coming out this year too. But I have started setting a little money aside every week that way it won't feel like it's too much when it comes out.

PS does anyone know the release date for TLK?

ThiagoPE

The american release will be at 04/octuber/2011 , we from brazil will have our release one week before at 28/september/2011 due the fact of the day 12/octuber is celebrated the childrens day here.

huh I haven't seen that one before.. Kinda strange that the DVD will have a different cover since normally disney releases everything with the same cover. However I do like that one a little bit better :)

That boxset looks amazing, well at least the contents does, I've not really looked at the art. i really hope that that is a region free release, because we're almost certainly not going to get anything that cool in this country. I've had a quick look and it's a bit random as to which Disney releases are region free, so fingers crossed.

I've been putting off watching TLK until the blu-ray came out, when it saw it for the first time when the DVD came out way back when I'd not seen the film since it was on at the cinema and was like watching it for the first time again, so I'm hoping having not seen it for a few years it'll be like new again.

The region codes are really annoying. I've the same problem here with discs from United States. Therefore you should look for some BD Players, where you can unlock, or change the region codes. For instance, there are some Sony models capable of unlocking all region codes with just a few clicks on your remote controller.

Did you see the new "official" poster? http://s-tlk.org/news/tlk-new-poster.jpg
It's not that bad, when they remove the title over Simba's head and add the old one, it could be a nice poster, not perfect of course, but acceptable. ;-)

ThiagoPE
May 2nd, 2011, 04:05 PM
About the region codes: Here in brazil, all dvds from disney ( 1 and 4) , and some from other companies are multi encoded, so you can import from here with no worries. some dvds from US are also encoded for region 1 and 4.

Anyway, weīre talking about bluray, blu ray doesnīt have the old color systems (like pal and ntsc) and also the region encoding are very less restrictive than before, some releases here from disney, even the cover stating it are only region "A", when you put in the player says it are "A","B" and "C"

Well, as now i live in the same bd region of United States, i will get the 8 disc set, Hopping it came with brazilian audio/subs as some old american releases had.

Another question would be, if there are extra's on it, can someone back-up a Blu-Ray?
Would be cool if the ones who don't have a Blu-Ray player could watch the extra's too.

May 2nd, 2011, 04:53 PM
I've just check my the Beauty and the Beast BD and this is region free. The implementation of the regional code is different from the DVD, so many companies got rid of it at all.

Just hypothetical (:-P), ripping, an even AACS protected BD, is much easer than a DVD, at least since some master key was detected by the doom9 group. So, assuming you have the right program, most of the BD can be ripped easily. But at same point they have added some enhancement to the encryption system. But most of the smaller companies don't even use AACS anymore, because its totally useless against piracy and additional the companies can save a huge among of money for the licence. But I don't suppose Disney will go this way.

Back to the topic, I hope that they will add all the Bonus material from the DVD and the LD deluxe edition and perhaps some additional information about the conversion to HD. I've recorded all of the LD stuff and the quality is okay for watching it, but I'll be happier when Disney do this for me, although I don't think they will spend much time to make some high quality scaling of the bonus material for the BD release, but still this will be better than what I've done.

Simbaspirit
May 3rd, 2011, 01:22 AM
I'm really curious as to the bonus features that will be on this release - they had an incredible amount on the DVD and it seems like there might not be much left :p

•Bloopers and Outtakes
•Deleted and Alternate Scenes and Song
•The Morning Report (Extended Scene)
•Disney Sing Along Mode
•Interactive Blu-ray Gallery
•Disney’s Virtual Vault — DVD Legacy Bonus

To me i really expected more than that... letīs hope for more material in the 3d disc

There's also a DVD version that's quite lovely in comparison.

I'm hoping that the disney store comes out with more TLK merchandise for the release.. but I'll be moved away by then, no where near a Disney Store :alone:. But my sister already told her she'd go and take pictures of everything and tell me the price and I'll be able to send her the money and she'll get them for me :p. I'm also wondering if the Disney store will do what they usually do and offer free prints if you pre-order it. I'm gonna get mine online when its cheaper, but I'll get my family to order their copy through the Disney store and give me the prints :D

Why not? I'm using a unix based operating system as well and with libbluray its working perfectly fine. ;-)

The trailer is, as mentioned before, really awesome. I think they did a good job when they ported the movie, at least if the same quality arrives on the BD. The pictures are even sharper in the video, on the one hand with moving images you can't look at all the details and the jpeg compression doesn't screwed it up. I made two screenshots for my news site. They also making nice wallpapers. CoL (http://s-tlk.org/news/col.png) and Hakuna (http://s-tlk.org/news/hakuna.png) :-)

The film inspired an immensely popular, Tony AwardŪ-winning Broadway musical, which is currently featured on stages worldwide. It became the seventh longest-running musical in Broadway history in January 2011.

ABOUT THE LION KING:

An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters and award-winning music sets thestage for “The Lion King”, a Disney classic that follows the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who “just can't wait to be king.” But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of “Hakuna Matata,” Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the “Circle of Life.”

The all-star vocal talents—including Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Ernie Sabella, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Robert Guillaume, Cheech Marin and Moira Kelly—rip-roaring comedy and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty and hope make this a timeless tale for all ages. Produced by Don Hahn and directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff from a script by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts and Linda Woolverton, “The Lion King” is rated G by the MPAA.

Haha yeah. I do really like that third one Thiago posted. Still not liking the new US one at all. But, it looks like it's the official cover because that's what they're using on the official Facebook page now.

And once again the French version takes the crown!

Just like it did with the DVD release in 2003.

Disney Brazil has anouced that the brazilian edition will have 4 disc edition! it surprized us because they never ever before released a movie with the digital copy, and never had a pack with both 2d and 3d disc (may be that will be bacuse the edition of "rio" will also be a 4 disc combo pack)

The release day also confirmed 28 of september.

One thing that people are really anoyed is the fact the bd will be a single disc edition, by the waht i have saw until now, the will rely on bd live for new "exclusive" extras, that can be good for one way because they can update such extras as the time goes and news appers, but also worry me cause one day soon or later they will shut down the servers and we will let with out such contents.

Lets wait an see...

The cover art for TLK 3 looks almost identical to the previous cover art, the bottom half in particular. :hmm:

And the cover art for SP is pretty much just clip-art, with the exception of the top half where Zira looks as though she is wearing too much black lipstick. I'm not really a fan of any of those cover arts, but my favourite one out of the three is the third one (it actually looks half-decent), which is a shame because that's the worst movie in the trilogy. :woe:

Amazon is now showing what is presumably the casing for the discs, enclosed within the main box. It looks like an African drum.

That's the one I'm getting. Mostly so I don't have to look at that horrible cover on my DVD shelf.

And I figured out where I've seen that Simba they're using before... It looks like the Simba puppets in the Disney Parks parades and shows...

King Simba

I like the whole African drum effect. It looks really cool. :)

I've had a look for this on UK websites for a UK/European release, but I don't see it anywhere. :\ Does that mean the 8-disc set won't be released here? I really hope not. Also, the cover art on Amazon UK for the DVD/Blu-Ray has yet to be confirmed, so maybe that means we'll have a different cover art? I really hope so. :p

Disney store has the 4-disc blu-ray with lithographs if you pre-order.

Seems to be the official cover too for blu-ray and dvd

those are some nice lithographs! I was hoping they would do this. I personally am going to buy the 8 disc, but my family wants their own copy and they said they'd pre-order it and give me the lithographs :p

I'll probably pre-order just to get lithos... I mean... why not? I have multiple copies of the VHS and DVDs already, might as well continue the tradition of overkill

I actually really like the cover art for the DVD release:

At least that's what it looks like on the US site. Not so sure about how it'll look in the UK. :thinks: Then again, I'll be getting the Blu-ray so I guess I'll be having my hands on the cover of pure uglyness.

sorry me bumping this old therad (where are the TLK worldwide bluray release thread???) but i think this may be interesting to show.

I made a vídeo demonstrating my bluray with all "current and oficial" dubs of tlk, which can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ8EkzYdRnI

Hope you like it.

nathalie
March 25th, 2013, 09:32 AM
*hmm*

that would be odd ...
Have to be honest, since I didn't really need the thread anymore, I hadn't noticed it anymore.

My last edition to the colletion is the Spanish book-version, it's blu-ray though, had to get it from ebay, as the website I once found was out of stock with their DVD version.
I waited far too long to order, lol.

Only 1 blu-ray left that I need, which is the Taiwan (or Korean) steelbook edition!
I totally forgot to bid on one last night *sigh*.
I already bidded on like, 30 of these, and the price they go for are just insane at times o_O
(if I had a job, I probably would get it for such an insane price, haha)

ThiagoPE
March 25th, 2013, 03:56 PM
oThat Korean steel book sold a lot here among collectors. Today it are very expensive if you find it. Good luck in your search for it.

nathalie
March 25th, 2013, 04:14 PM
I have never seen it at a reasonable price, so for me, every one of them I saw since the very beginning, the price was flipping through the roof :o
Don't think I ever saw one sell under 70 $, but always at times, I cannot miss that amount, and I also try not to spend more then 40 € on an item, which I've done great so far in the past years.
(some exceptions, like the 8-disc box and such)

If my nephews weren't such asses, they could have gotten it for me.
They are in Hong Kong & China every 2 months -_-

Someday I'll get it ...

ThiagoPE
March 25th, 2013, 11:25 PM
When it was released, it costed about 35 dollars. But just few days after it started increasing the price.

This BD has English, Spanish, Zulu, Portuguese & Dutch as languages on it.

nathalie
April 15th, 2013, 02:04 PM
YES! I got it! The Taiwan version.
It finally arrived this morning.

And I think I payed a fair price for it.
I've only seen 1 go cheaper in the past year (and I forgot to bid on that one as it ended at 3am or so), so I'm pretty happy.

Now I can finally stop looking at ebay every morning, and seeing other items I could want :/

Only 1 different cover / version to go.
The French 3D version. Might get that very soon, there's a cheap one online.
