:O I honestly had no idea the show skipped last week because my cable company had the episode posted in On Demand already last weekend. I've been watching the board all week wondering why no one was starting a topic for it! So it probably came from Verizon FIOS.

Oh yeah! turns out it's going to air tomorrow here too :cheese:

Edit: OMG! I just found out that almost all the voice actors from the original TLK Mexican Spanish dub will return for The Lion Guard! So Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa and Rafiki will all be the same ones :simbahappy3: This pleases me so, so much ^^

Too bad the voice actor for Mufasa (Carlos Magaña Guisa) won't be back since he died back in 1998 :( he had such a lovely voice.
Here only Pumba and Rafiki are the same actors from the movie.

What is strange is that Timon and Simba actors (not sure about mufasa) are alive, so I don't understood why they didn't reprised their roles...

Just sad... 😢 😢 😢

Hmm I recall having heard that Disney Junior made the episode available in their main site, just like with Rise of Makuu. There was no way I could be sure of it because of the region lock, but I guess that's where Kisscartoon got it from ><

On another topic, I finally got to watch the Mexican dub of TLG:RotR, and yeap, the older characters sound exactly the same as they did in TLK  it felt so nostalgic to hear them all again, especially Arturo Mercado as Simba. The only exception was Mufasa, whose new voice I didn't like as much, maybe he didn't sound as deep as in other dubs.
Kion's voice sounded alright, at least it's better than the European Spanish dub where he sounds too high-pitched. Kiara on the other hand sounded a bit too low (she reminded me of a goth teenager for some reason xP) but I think it's acceptable.

Lane and Matthew is probably too expensive for the franchise, Beside they're pretty much an A list actors. Beside, there's nothing wrong for Schon and Lowe to cast as Timon and Simba.

His name is Makucha, and he looks awesome! Look at those eyebrows, and that outlander nose

According to Kevin Schon (Timon, Chungu, and the zebra leader in TLG), the zebra's name is Thurston, and he's a tribute to Thurston Howell III from Gilligan's Island (played by Jim Backus).
I wonder if they based his personality on him as well :ooo:

The new episode is out on watch.disneyjunior.go. Not going to spoil anything, but I'm now unsure of how this is TV-Y7. Very, very dark.

If this is what they're willing to do in Season 1, Season 2 will be very exciting, considering Kevin Schon has stated it'll be much darker.

I'm not even sure this is appropriate for Disney Junior.

Wow, I heard about Kevin Schon's tweet about season 2 being darker, but is this next episode really that much? I can't wait to see it and find out!

The new episode is out on watch.disneyjunior.go.

Too bad you have to sign in with your television provider to be able to watch it. We don't have cable, so we can't watch it there. :(

iTunes already has this Friday's episode on their season pass of The Lion Guard. But I don't really want to buy another season pass of The Lion Guard. I bought the first season pass on Google Play, and I never really used it. Kiss Cartoon always had the newest episode up before Google Play. Plus, it (and iTunes) broke the season up into volumes, so I paid $30 for the first 13 episodes only, when I thought a season pass meant the WHOLE first season. I feel that is misleading, the show is still currently in season one.

Although, if iTunes keeps releasing episodes early, I have to admit it is kind of tempting to buy their season pass. :p

I just wait. I'm already paying for the satellite, so I don't see a reason to pay for the season pass or anything else extra. I could login to watch on the website, but that's annoying. :p

I'm not sure how many of you are using Kiss Cartoon to watch The Lion Guard, but for those who do, I thought I should mention this. Last week they released episode #14 and #15 on the same day. But episode #15 was just repeating episode #14, which was "The Imaginary Okapi". I looked at the list of Lion Guard episodes on Kiss Cartoon last night and this morning, and because it still said episode #15 was released 7/7/2016 (the same date as episode #14 as well), I thought it as still a just the repeat of episode #14. But I'm glad I looked forward a little bit in the episode to find out they fixed it, it is actually now the newest episode, "Too Many Termites". Just wanted to mention this in case someone was making the same mistake I was, assuming because of the date listed, that it was still the wrong episode. So, yeah, now I can't wait to watch this episode tonight after work. :D

I was wondering the same thing, I mean about Sarger saying the episode was so dark, that he/she thought it was not appropriate for Disney Junior. Then I watched the latest episode "Too Many Termites" and I thought to myself, this was really dark? It really didn't seem that way to me.

I think it might have been the jackals talking about how they ate a family of hyraxes. Not exactly dark, though, just a little bit creepier than usual, I guess ><
Anyway, better discuss stuff about specific episodes in their respective threads :p

In another topic, there'll be another new leopard character in this Friday's episode, Trouble with Galagos. A friendly one named Badili! :D

I'm not sure if the other leopard is Makucha, or if it'll be a new one, but I think Badili looks adorable :)
The episode will have a focus on the topic of bullying, which is a very sensitive topic for some, including myself. I really hope they'll get it right

I also thought this whole "We'll make you a meal" was kind of dark, but then again... I grew up with Gargamel trying to cook and eat the Smurfs or later turn them into Gold. I'll see how my little daughter will react when the episode is released in Germany. She didn't understand much of it when I showed her the English episode (She's almost 3 years old now...). However, she did get that the jackals were the villains and that the "hyenas" were the good guys this time *gg*

And Leor: Thanks! Wow, that really sounds promising.
That whole issue of leopards and the pride lands quite bugged me. I don't understand why they can't live in the Pride Lands at all and it appeared that this was "common sense" in the episode. I mean, just look at Zazu's Morning Report. Or at least in the German version... There even Zazu mentioned Leopards. ;) So they can't all be that bad, can they?

About the topic: I also hope they get it right... I agree with you: Bullying is a very sensitive issue and I hope the deal well with it.

Yeah, it seems that the writers forgot about those leopards who "were in a bit of a spot" but for the fun of theorizing I actually had an extensive talk with Lyonize and ABB about this once, and we came to a conclussion:

There used to be some leopards in the Pridelands during Mufasa's reign, but they became loyal to Scar, just like the Outlander lionesses, and so they were banished as well. Evidence of this can be found in the TLK SNES/Genesis game, where there are leopard enemies fighting along with the hyenas.

Wether you consider the game canonical or not it's up to you, but hey, at least the show made it a possibility by having a lava river in the Outlands, just like in the game :p

Ooh, the new episode will air on Friday? And I just checked The Lion Guard's Wikipedia page, it says "Janja's New Crew" will air on Sunday. August 7? Really? That would be cool, but the air dates seem to keep changing, so we'll see. :p

If the other leopard is Makucha, I'm surprised they'd have a recurring character come back so soon after his last appearance. I mean, I've been looking forward to seeing Jasiri again ever since the beginning of the season, and still nothing ; she seemed like someone Kion would definitely see again, too.

...where is Zira's stripe though? =o

Leorgathar
November 2nd, 2016, 08:49 PM
I know, right? What's with the new stripe-less design? >< But at least Vitani looks pretty much the same, hopefully Nuka and especially Kovu will as well.

Now this is the part that I'm most intrigued about:
909

The Outlanders' backstory wasn't properly explained in TLK2, but rather through the first dialogue between Simba and Zira. Now it seems that Rafiki has all that backstory in his cave paintings and will tell the Lion Guard about it (there's Zira with Scar on Pride Rock!). So perhaps we'll learn a few new details there, I can't wait to see :D

Kossu
November 2nd, 2016, 09:19 PM
The missing stripe troubled me too. I'm curious if they simply forgot it, or just left it out intentionally.

And I'm also hoping there will be explanations about the wall painting. The part of the painting that I question the most is the one where Scar is surrounded by two lionesses ( I think?).
Ugh it feels like the 11th of November is too far away, I really can't wait for this episode! :D

KanuTGL
November 3rd, 2016, 12:04 AM
It'd be very cool if they actually decided to fill that hole in the canon. This ought to be interesting :D

So many fanfiction writers will lose their minds if TLG does explain a backstory that doesn't line up with their ideas though... xP

I am so annoyed with this series on Belgian/Holland Disney Channel -_-

Ever since March they started to show them, but at the end of May they had only showed 8 episodes so far.
I've been taping it ever since, and it comes on like 3-4 times a day, and I'm taping them all, just in case ...
But ever since May, they haven't showed a new espisode yet, they just keep showing re-runs of the first 8 ones *sigh*
Already asked on their fb page when there will be newer ones, but no reply.

Yeah yeah yeah, Nuka, Vitani, blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Look, they are bringing Jasiri back finally!

I have a sneaking suspicion it's for the last time, Zira usually supercedes hyenas in TLKverse no matter how you dice it, but let's just prioritize for a moment and appreciate one of the best new contributions to TLKland.

*swishes a fine wine*

OK, so maybe not all that, but seriously I never really liked Vitani or Nuka. If they send off Jasiri at least she made the entire TLG series worth it for me. xD

Jut wanted to let you guys know, "Lion of the Outlands" is not available to watch yet on Kiss Cartoon (http://kisscartoon.me/Cartoon/The-Lion-Guard), but to my surprise, it is available to watch on the Watch Disney Junior website (http://watchdisneyjunior.go.com/the-lion-guard/video/vdka3507182/01/20-lions-of-the-outlands), free to watch. You don't need to sign in with your cable provider to watch it. (Which is usually the case with newest episodes) I'm going to wait to watch it until our room mate comes home so we can all watch it together. But I'm glad to know it's available to watch for free, because sometimes it takes a day or two for the newest episode to be uploaded to Kiss Cartoon.

We're finally all caught up so I can finally read this thread again and post here, haha. We watched the episode with Zira etc last night. I enjoyed it, Zira's song was fitting. There is no one that they can write Jasiri out of TLG, she has to be way too popular for that. It was interesting seeing the old characters rehashed in such a manner, though it was tough to get over the different voice actors and animation. Pat and I were both disappointed that there wasn't a cool Vitani/Fuli fight when Fuli pounced.

Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the roar creating rain, although it has some continuity from Scar's reign when the Pridelands went into a drought and he wasn't able to do anything to fix it, there was no Lion Guard to bring back the rain. There was just "balance restored" rain, hehe.

Wow, January 13 is still a full month away. This first season surely lasted almost a whole year (there's supposedly only 2 episodes left in the season) I hope season 2 doesn't take too long to start after this. I also kinda hoped the last 2 episodes would be a 2-parter like in most other series, but seems that it won't be the case here. Maybe for next season, who knows xP

Wow, there's an early concept version of the Zuka Zama song! Apparently this version was written before Beau Black joined in.
It's written by Michael Kooman and Chris Dimond and performed by Sergi Robles as Bunga.

Zuka Zama (Disney Pilot Concept) (https://soundcloud.com/roblerama/zuka-zama-disney-pilot-concept)
It's pretty much entirely different than the final version, with a different beat and all, but I think it's still pretty good :ooo:

Also, I decided to finally get into writing about those remaining TLG episodes from where we left off. It's been kinda quiet around here lately, and since the next TLG episode is until February 24th, I thought it'd give us something to talk about while we wait.

Woo, another new season! :D I caught up on the latest episodes the other week. They're pretty good and all, but the more TLG I watch the more I consider it an alternate universe that's separate from the films, hah. And Mufasa's appearances are just a feew too many now :headache: I don't know. I feel like they're just taking the "ghost" too lightly, when it was such an important, pivotal moment in the film.

I hear rumours that Scar is going to make some sort of appearance pretty soon as well... I guess they've been building up to it since the very beginning, but I'm still sort of conflicted about this. I just hope it'll be handled well, with the original canon in mind. You know, not ignoring Simba's existence and role in the matter as I feel like they usually do.

None the less, everything else aside - yay, Beshte episode coming up! :cs_innocent_2:

Leorgathar
March 17th, 2017, 06:53 AM
Yeah, I don't think the series is to be taken so seriously at this point either. I still consider it extra canon material, but it'll hardly ever have the same depth xP

I don't know what to make of the Scar rumors, but they seem to have come from this new play set in A toy fair, along with what the employee presenting it says about it. Looks like he has a rocky texture, like he's part of a cave or something, but it's confusing:

I know, it's confusing xD Apparently "Ono the Tickbird" was the last episode of season 1, then they announced there would be a hiatus during May, and now they say season 2 starts on July. They should have made a proper season finale, sheesh! >_<

Anyway, there's also 5 new episodes announced:

"Babysitter Bunga" - July 7th
"Savannah Summit" - July 7th
"The Travelling Baboon" - July 14th
"Ono and the Egg" - July 21st
"Rise of Scar" - July 30th (TV movie)

There's gonna be a lot of talk about that last one, seems that the rumors were true :cs_yikes_1: I don't know what to make of it, I guess I'm excited but also very skeptical.
Whatever they do, I hope it's a good episode (and that they bring Jeremy Irons back at least xP)

Hmmm. I just hope they won't forget that The Lion King kinda... happened? And that they won't forget about the actual TLK cast and the roles they played in the actual story :'D I'm concerned it'll be all about Kion (which would make sense, sure) and that Simba, Nala and the others will continue to be as passive as they usually are in the series...

Okaaay, we have a first look at Scar in TLG now:

https://ewedit.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/147010_00211.jpg?w=1024

Apparently he'll be a ghost made of volcano flames in the TV movie. Even though I still raise my eyebrow at the idea, I think he looks pretty cool, I like it.

But as it turns out, he won't be reprised by Jeremy Irons (*sigh*), but instead he'll be played by David Oyelowo.
It's very disappointing that they didn't get Irons, but I haven't heard Oyelowo yet, so I'm really hoping he's a good choice at least.

As for how he'll be brought back, it seems that Kion will accidentally summon Scar after he uses the Roar of the Elders during a fit of anger.

Here's a link (http://ew.com/tv/2017/06/21/david-oyelowo-scar-the-lion-guard/amp/) to the article

Wait, does that mean we could possibly see a Mufasa ghost vs Scar ghost clash, or something?:thinks:

We can't expect all the old voices to be back. It's been years, they got lives, or don't want to do it anymore. I really think Rowan had time for it, yet he's only in the first movie. I've never even seen an interview with him about lion king. So I figure he was done with it straight after the first one.

My childhood self just shrieked with joy at Lava Ghost Scar. Lava Ghost Scar was a very regular player in me & my friend's games! And now he's CANON!

Also, this -> http://lionguard.wikia.com/wiki/Makini Rafiki has an apprentice!? For some reason, this makes me really happy/excited :D

There's even a plush from the apprentice on the Disney Store website.

Here's a new trailer for The Lion Guard: The Rise of Scar, with Rafiki's new apprentice, Makini! :kionwow:

Apparently the story will deal with the nature of being able to summon lions of the past, and it'll have something to do with Rafiki's magic staff. This looks intriguing, I can't wait to see it.
