Here's my whole display case with me in front, all the big plushies are looking down on you!

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/fair/tlk_exhibit2.jpg
A better look at the top two shelves

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/fair/tlk_exhibit3.jpg
The main part of the collection, smaller plushes on the bottom and TLKOB stuff and figurines on the first shelf, in the lower right corner I put my TLK skybox I trading card set that you can't see in the pic.

Yes, that is a TLK bowling ball in the bottom left corner!

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/fair/tlk_exhibit4.jpg
Top right, lithos, large books (can you see the TLK 6 New Adventures box set?) nesting dolls and a signed movie script

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/fair/tlk_exhibit5.jpg
More books, lithos, ornaments, snowglobes and music boxes, and yes a very cool TLK gumball machine!

http://students.washington.edu/tim300/fair/tlk_exhibit6.jpg
A closer-up view of the whole case

I have about 30 TLK and TLKOB shirts and I was only able to display 2 of them unfortunately, but it would have been pretty hard even if I did have room to display more stuff, most of my TLK books were sent back home as did about half of the lithos and some of the bigger things like puzzle boxes, games, but I'm very happy with the way it looks now.

Fair starts September 8th, can't wait to make some visits and get the chance to talk to people about my collection!

:)

=O How...? Where...? Do you have all the Lion King stuff in the world?!?!?!?! Lolz. Wonderful collection, truly wonderful! *envies you*

First off thanks so much for the compliments everyone, much appreciated.

:)

To answer Nathalie's question - that is the TLK II: Simba's Pride and TLK 3: Hakuna Matata in Mandarin Chinese I bought when I was visiting my mom in Beijing, China on vacation (before seeing the Lion King musical in Shanghai)

They are VCDs, but the quality is surprisingly very, very good (almost DVD quality) because the ones in the store were licensed by Disney and not cheap copies. I couldn't buy DVD's because I'm in region 1 and Asia is region 6 so there would be compatibility issues with DVD players in the U.S.A.

I really wanted to find the original TLK movie VCD but I couldn't find in any of the stores I visited in China.

Here's a short bio in case you were wondering how this came about:

I really only started collecting TLK in winter of 2003. I wasn't crazy at all about the movie when it came out in 1994, but upon rewatching the film to do a English term paper it connected with me in that really strong way (probably due to the events surrounding my life at the time) as I'm sure it did to most of you, and soon I had to have EVERYTHING TLK-related. It started innocently enough, a few plushes, lithographs, poster and a few oddities that I'd see at garage sales and thrift stores, and then I got addicted. I'd say about 80-90% of the items I have in my collection have been purchased through Ebay, and when you're using your bank account instead of real money to purchase everything it's easy to get out of control and that's kind of what happened.

Fortunately for me, I've been very lucky to have a good job and also won money on a game show which financed a lot of my TLK collection.

I've toned it down quite a bit since last year, and I've focused my collection on Lion King on Broadway merchandise and the rare or limited edition TLK film collectibles, but I still am watching my bankroll and will only bid on something if it's a good deal. By my estimation I've spent between $3,000 and $3,500 on my TLK collection so far.

It's important to note that my collection is not for personal gain, profit, or fame or anything like that. People ask me... "so are you planning to resell your stuff later and make money?" I'm not thinking about that at all, it's just that I want everyone to remember this film as animation's greatest achievement, that its themes, characters, music and all the collaborative efforts that worked together to make this incredible film that has really moved people. Same goes with the Broadway musical, it's now been seen in nine different countries because the themes are truly cross-cultural and exist everywhere and can be appreciated by everyone and that's what makes TLK so great.

If anything by displaying my collection at the fair I hope to meet some other TLK fans that live in the area that write me a note after seeing my collection.

It's really great to see all of you building your TLK collections, no matter how big or small it's the heart that counts, and I hope one day everyone has a TLK collection that they will be proud of and that they can share with their family and friends.

Here's a question... What are all of us going to do with our collections when we are no longer here to enjoy them? I have two things I'd like done. 1) I want it donated to a toy/Disneyana/collectible museum. 2) If a museum doesn't want it, give it to people that do. :)

Sometime I'll get a big glass box and put my things in there, but then it has to be such a big box, I don't know if someone sells that >.o Else I'll build a new room and have the things in there. This far it takes a whole room, or *counts*10 cardboard boxes since all my TLK things are packed down now when I moved from home. I miss my room ^^ I have pics here: http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a109/KiaraZ/aaaa/

But that's before I bought the bird, so in the end the TV was in front of the window again and the keyboard gone for a while ... I'll load up those pics later, I still have them in the camera ^^

In my grave.

Seriously.

I told Zaya that today aswell, it came up for some reason.
No one *ever* touches my TLK stuff ... Not even Bart, 'cause he knows that'd be suicide. Haha.

My stuff is holy to me, and it might sound so strange or so stupid, but it is.
If there is 1 thing I'd never give away, it'd be my TLK stuff.

They can have my guitar, my bass ... but not my TLK stuff.

@ Tim ... oh ... I'd kill to have those aswell, haha :p
I spotted those VCD's on ebay sometimes, but it's hard getting them, some don't speak English, some don't sell overseas, money currency, etc ...

When we all are dying, we'll give our things to the biggest museum in the whole world, and every little thing that had ever been made will be there at the end, so the next generations can come and look at it and remember the assome movie!

:grrr: Swines stole it first.

Does anybody have a Kovu/Kiara stuffed animal set, where their nose magnetize? I only saw those out for one day and wondered if anybody grabbed em'.

WOW good for you Amanda! All 12 for only $78... that is an unbelievable deal, those Bradford plates usually sell for $10-15 each easily + shipping. I only have the first one "Circle of Life" and am looking to eventually collect them all but they are sooo expensive, kind of like the WDCC sculptures I want to get the Simba and Mufasa one but those never go below $50... yikes.

I'm trying not to get anything real expensive nowadays because I have to save money for my Orlando trip (first time to Disneyworld!!! :cheese: )

It will be a three-day trip, the standard "Magic Kingdom//Animal Kingdom" one park per day deal, though I'm still deciding between Epcot and MGM studios... and of course TLKOB in Orlando on Friday, perfect middle orchestra. The trip also includes Disney Magical Express, which is shuttle service to and from the airport to the hotel. Why am I telling you this???

Well, I was supposed to go with one of my friends from work but he changed his mind because he's switching jobs and doesn't have the money right now - but the thing is I already bought not only the TLKOB tickets
but also the park and hotel tickets - I got three days hotel and park passes for $350 per person which I think is a really good deal, the hotel is right there next to Disneyworld.

My sister is kind of indifferent about going, she is going to Japan next summer and needs to save money for that, but she says she'll go if I can't find anyone else.

If anyone here (especially those I know well, but I'll take every request into consideration) is seriously interested in meeting me in Orlando from January 11-14th, 2007 (I will fly in sometime on the 11th and coordinate my flight time with yours) to see The Lion King on Broadway and all Disney World has to offer please PM me and I'll get back to you. Again, serious offers only please!

I have figured that the trip will cost you only $430 + airfare and meals, which is not bad at all (You'd owe me $430, 350 for the park and hotel tickets, and 80 for the TLKOB ticket) so take that into consideration.

Hope to hear from some of you, it will be a really fun trip. (sorry for being off-topic but I have to throw it out there)

yea, you still ride it more than your sister? xD And yea I moved 2 weeks ago, so my things are still in boxes, which made it easy for me to for once take pics of everything like this, and not when it's in the room. Just think about it, I came driving through lots of citys with my TLK car, full of TLK things! xD It really was too much in it, I barely saw out ... Think I got the pics here somewhere from the moving ...

Haha, yes Manda, I'm cool :bleen:

There are only as much songs as in all 3 movies Ciara ;)

But in different languages, there are already 3 types of soundtrack CD's from the first movie (1994 - 1998 - 2003), the musical, and then those "special" ones like Rythem of the Pride Lands, story telling CD's etc ...

Well I got all my CDs on the PC. Dunno why, it just takes up like 20 GB on it, but then it doesn't matter since the computer has like 300 GB space ... So no, it's kinda unecessary to burn it to yet another CD ;)

Ok, I'll edit here now Nath and see how it goes :O

Anyway, I found in my photobucket another TLK thing I got, to not mention my cellphone if you remember:
Front (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a109/KiaraZ/My%20TLK%20merchandise%20pics/front.jpg)
Inside (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a109/KiaraZ/My%20TLK%20merchandise%20pics/inside.jpg)
Back (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a109/KiaraZ/My%20TLK%20merchandise%20pics/back.jpg)

These are old pics tho ... <.< But it kinda looks like this now too, except the name on the front that is gone ^^

I also found better pics of the TLK car... (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a109/KiaraZ/My%20TLK%20merchandise%20pics/TLKCar.jpg)

I still have no pic of my TLK carpet with cool sounds and stuff, but I have a photo of it in my album, so I can just scan it ^^

My Bradford Exchange plates arrived today. Unfortunately, one of them was broken. I'm going to let the seller know but it's not chipped or anything so it's fixable. I just want to make sure I wasn't charged for a plate that was broken before it got to me.

Wow, I went to take down my TLK collection at the fair and I found out that I won a People's Choice Award for Oustanding Collection at this year's Puyallup Fair! :wow:

I'm really excited about that... it was a lot of work and dedication of course for many years to collect all that and set it up in the display... I drove over 700 miles to and from the fair this year. At one point I was wondering if it really was all worth it.

I decided to go to the fair one last time on closing weekend (Saturday, the busiest day of the Fair) and I got the chance to hang out near my exhibit and talk to some people about my collection, as I was about to leave, there was a mom and her son that seemed very interested in my display so I went up and introduced myself.

It turns out that her son was autistic and couldn't speak, and The Lion King gave him inspiration to get through life. He appeared to be around 11-12 years old. As his mom and I talked, he was just totally engrossed in the display. It looked like he was in heaven! As his mom said, "I could leave him here for two hours and when I came back he would still be here". She also said that "his room is the Pride Lands" which I thought was very funny. We visited some more and I got to take a picture with Koda (that's his name). After that event I knew that if TLK could give fond memories and inspiration like that, it was all worth the trouble. It made me very happy and was a special moment for me to touch someone else's life with my TLK collection.

Wow this thread has been dead for awhile.

I found a super cool TLK book at WalMart today. It's a reprint of the ones that have been around for ages but it has an interesting treatment. It's blue and has shiny blue foiling on the cover. Like I said, the text and pictures inside are the same as the Golden Books ones that have been around for ages but it has the text translated beneath in Spanish. It's cool. I'll scan a bit of it so y'all can see if you want. :)

Hey, thanks for the compliment. I actually haven't been keeping track, but I estimate that I've spent between $3,500-$4,000 USD on my collection so far, and I'm continually adding to it. Just got a beautiful Wall hanging that came in today (Mufasa and Simba together, jungle scene on a blue background, 3 feet x 4 feet) and a TLK mousepad.

I didn't even know that there were matching pillows! If I see them anywhere I will definitely get them, but outside of Ebay I very rarely if ever see those kinds of things for sale.

The one thing I really want right now that I don't have is the TLKOB boxed pin set (Scar, Mufasa, Simba, Nala and the show logo) I had a chance to win it a couple of months ago and got sniped at the LAST second...
:grrr:

But that's okay, I'm usually the one doing the bid-sniping

That set only appears on Ebay once in a blue moon and I can't find it anywhere else, don't think they're being sold in theatres anymore. (It wasn't at the New Amsterdam when I went there in 2005)

HasiraKali
October 25th, 2006, 01:12 AM

I am so envious. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Aussie patriot, but man I wish we had some Lion King merchandise. I have a Mufasa with baby Simba toy (who had an unfortunate haircut when I was little, now he has no tuft or tail fuzz, but he squeaks!) that's in the roof somewhere because I keep forgetting to ask for it down, a toy Simba someone gave me that they'd had forever, the original soundtrack and a purring Kiara that doesn't purr because I got annoyed with the purring so I took the sound box out (and now I've lost it) and who also recieved one of my dreadful de-fuzzing haircuts. Now her tail is smooth. :woeisme:
But I love them all, I'm glad for what little I have. =D

*Edit*: I have the Sweetheart Simba and Nala! Hooray, finally my dreamed of Nala toy. =D I think I broke the world record for "Fastest Box Opening" or "Fastest toy Unwiring". They're soooo...ooo...oooo cute!!

I've received my TLKoB London t-shirt. ^^ I actually wanted to buy this when I went to see TLKoB in London at the Lea meeting but I never got chance to look around the gift shop. Mainly because my mum wanted us to catch the train back home. =/

Anyways, I've got my own bank account now so I can finally buy that TLK stuff I've been wanting for ages. I've just gotta keep a watch out for where my money goes. No doubt I would've already spent quite a bit on TLK related stuff. :p

I have TLK toys from McD. and they're in a bad shape now (and then i would assume too). We put all McD. toys in the back box of our car we had when i was kid and used to play with them during long rides. I remember i had couple of TLK toys and went out to the car to take them home. I also found the plushie Kovu in my closet and *someone* has cut of his tuft on the head XD

Then i remembered we used to save every single Happy Meal box and that we had like 4 1 meter tall piles on the attic, but once i got up there to look for TLK ones they had been threw away (!) :gasp: I think we built that Pride Rock box ones .. never a good quality on the boxes cardboard stuff that was full of ketchup or other burger foody things

Although here in the U.S., Burger King was the one that had TLK toys in 1994. :Psst: (I remember that so well, my mom calling all the Burger Kings to find the toys we needed to complete our collection. (Mine and my sister's) Hehe.)

But then in 1998 when Simba's Pride came out, those toys were at McDonalds. I didn't want to collect those because I thought those Simba's Pride plushies were pretty ugly. :eww:

If you've got a Dollar Tree shop in your area, you might want to go check it out. They have Disney Villain figurines, one of which is Scar. :D If you don't have a dollar tree in your area, maybe I could pick one up for you. If you really want one of course. :)

Here's a picture.

OH MY GAWDD!!! :cheese: I may have to take you up on that offer! 'Cept there're a few issues--One, I don't know you so well...:( Two, I live in Alaska :eww: and Three, I'm not sure how I'd pay you.. But that is SO cool! I had a Scar figurine when I was little that looked similar...but a friend of mine borrowed it and never gave it back. *sniffles*

Eitherway, that's AWESOME! =D

Ooo trading cards ... I got those like ... 3 times complete maybe, haha.

What's that thing in the left upper corner?

I got some stuff comming in, in two weeks, can't wait ^^
A girl I know for such a long time, had so many Lion King stuff (I didn't even knew, haha), and she didn't want it anymore.

Only thing I really still want, are those "6 new adventure books".

Same over here.

I can't say enough I much I dislike the Princess series, haha :P

and Pooh, my God ... Princess and Pooh everywhere o_O

but these things were quite old already, and from several Disney parks (she used to work at Disney Paris) so I'm guessing it's an old souvenir from a park or something

Mwah, I hate that I can't buy things off eBay, because sometimes I find some really pretty items on there... eBay hates me D:

And that is an awesome mug, Nathalie

I actually like the Princess line. >.> <.<

I agree with you on Pooh though. I've hated Pooh for awhile now.

And there is TLK stuff at the DisneyStore here, it's just one thing. It's a cool little snow-globe sippy cup. There were two of them released. One's green and one's orange.

Nice mug, ditto on Pooh and the Princesses. Way too much merchandise for them.

First time I ever went to a McD(McDonals for short), was in 1993-1994(that was when they first came here). Somewhere in the capital.. to tell you the truth, I found it odd :E

I don't have many TLK items xD though I am huge fan of the movies, but no collector I am afraid xP

I too hate that princess stuff, I am okay with Pooh but the Princess thingy is going way out of hand :E

@ O_o ;; I got two of those cups on my birthday. One to use and one to collect. 2 days later Simba's head blows off in the cub and floats around when I use it...very amusing.

Got that today at the Disney store for 39.99USD...it was like 75.00, went at 50% off.

It plays Can't Wait to be King and they spin slowly in the blobe.

Yet to open it, nowhere to put it.
