This was always one of my favourite threads :) I love seeing other people's pets and seeing how cute they are!

Here's a couple of photos of my cat, Sparks, from last year. The first one is from Christmas, I gave her a little stocking which had 4 green cat toys in it (for some reason she loves green toys more) and so here's her playing with the mouse on Christmas Day :p

The second image is from November, indoors or in the shade she's pure black, but in the sun she gets beautiful russet hues. She's so gorgeous and I love her. :emo: She's 15 this year, and she had a really hard winter last year with digestive issues, cat flu and a foot infection all in the space of a couple of weeks. So I'm quite worried for her this winter as she often gets a little cold, I hope she pulls through.

Aww that's a cute cat you have, Azzy :) I hope this winter doesn't affect her that much.

Here are some pictures of my miniature Pinscher, Matilda, enjoying the scenery of Chihuahua, Mexico... and meeting some cows :D

Aww everyone has such cute pets. I love the pic of Matilda with the cows. xD

Cat spam!!

This here is my cat Peter. He's maybe... five or six years old? >_> Probably closer to five. He was a stray that I took in a few years ago, and I love him to death. <3

And this is our other cat, Slippers. She prefers my mom, probably because my mom isn't surrounded by Pete all the time... xD

And this is our bird, Sweetie. He died a few months ago of old age. ): We had him for probably ten years. RIP!

Just to revive this thread a bit, here's a picture of Charlie in the back garden with his ball...

Charlie is super cute! ^^ Maybe he's seen a squirrel instead? :p

Somby, I adore Peter! He seems a beautiful cat with such a personality.

Nuduli, love all your pets, especially Suppi and Sox ;)

You're probably all seen these before, but here's some picture of my late Hazel-rah, may he rest in peace. I miss having a rabbit, they're such characters.

This is Venus. This is my favorite photo of her.

http://i51.tinypic.com/5wmq2o.jpg

It's kind of hard to tell, but her bottom jaw is about two inches shorter than her upper jaw. She is too sweet and I have no idea why anyone would send her away (we adopted her from a shelter about five years ago) if they knew her.

Here's my Pleco, Dyson.

I got my bunny today :D

I wanted a ginger one with white/black spots, but he didn't like the color, and I really wasn't in the mood to start an argument about the fact that it would be "my" rabbit so I could choose ...

Anyways ...

We came across this cute little one, in very soft grey / ginger colors, and we both loved it ^^

When we were walking home, he was like: isn't sad, just one?
And we turned around and got the grey/brown one too, lol.

They are both girls, not from the same litter, so we were very lucky they get along, hehe.

3? That is extremely old for a hamster. Most wont live past 2 years, consider yourself lucky if that is the case. Besides I love hamsters, we had one when I was a kid and it was quite a character, may she rest in peace.

And awesome pics everyone. I guess you guys still have to wait for Audra's pictures as I do think my pets are the same as hers now...

Oh wow! They're so beautiful! Such beautiful little girls. Just make extra sure that they are both girls ;) just in case, lol. You're so lucky! It's funny that you ended up with two, but it's good that they're bonded, hopefully it stays that way as they get older :)

I do have a question, are you going to get them desexed? I only ask because I've read that ovarian cancer (or whatever type it is) is quite common with females that aren't desexed. They are gorgeous though :D

This is my 14 year old shepard/rottweilier/collie/husky mutt, who we got from a shelter as he spent his first few years on the streets. He's the goofiest dog ever and I love him to bits. He still acts like a puppy :)

hehe, thanks

I've never heard about that cancer before, and my previous bunnies I always took to the vet every 6 months, but she never told me about this.

I'll have a look into it.

Kenny said to put them together in 1 box during the ride home, he said they could bond because they were having the same "trauma" now by being in the car and such.

Don't know if that's true, lol.

If it they can't stay friends, the cage is big enough to make 2 compartments in it, so they could be seperated.

And then there's my childhood pomeranian, Sambu, although he still resides with my parents. He's 15 so I was worried about moving him when I moved out.

I would think keeping them together all the time early on can only be good for them to stay bonded including vet visits etc. As for the cancer, I've just read a lot that people mention it. I'm not sure how common, 'common' is though.

Everyone has such cute and beautiful pets!

Here's a picture taken today of us and our pets. Petteri is holding Miss Kitty and I'm holding Bella.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/birdygirl85/110_1007.jpg

Bella is a mix of Miniature Poodle, Pomeranian and Chihuahua. We're not sure of Miss Kitty's breed. We're assuming she's a Maine Coon or part Maine Coon just because she looks like one. But I have no idea. Maybe later I'll post some other photos, you can't even see Bella's face in that photo really. But I thought it was cute.

Even though they're gone, they should still get a place here ^^

My previous 2 bunnies.
The brown one is Sloefke (slipper) and the white (she was white when we got her, but then got black all over) one Spits (pointy).
Both are gone now :(

And my 2 cats.
Ginger died when she was 6 monhts.

And according to my ex, who told me last week, that he had recently seen my cat.
He's got some white spots, which would be hard for another cat to have on the same place I guess.
I don't know ... I hope he's still alive though.

And the last one "I will destroy you", that's how much Lucy loved him :p

Siamese kittens are born white as well, something to do with the temperature in the womb in the coat pigments not showing until they cool a bit after leaving the womb, I'm guessing it's a similar thing for the 'siamese' marked rabbits. And possibly the reason dalmation pups are born white too.

Sorry to hear about your cats though, I hope your black one is still alive. Can you go out and look for him?

nathalie
July 8th, 2011, 09:51 AM
I tried getting him back when I moved out, but didn't find him.

I can't really get him back, as it's 2 hours away (not that far by car, but by train it's a 4 hour trip).

And if someone else took him in, then it's mission impossible I guess.

This is Spits when she was 2 months, she has darker spots on her nose, but I never thought she'd become all black in some places.

At my parent's home there's 7 cats. One is mine and was there before my mom took in strays. Hobo, Maxine, Mittens, Mona, Patch, Murphy & Gilligan. Wolfgang recently passed away from an infection and age.

I'll post photos of them some other time mostly because they are on my mobile which isn't working right now!
However, at my boyfriend's home I decided to keep a different kind of pet. I wanted one since I was a child but my father wouldn't let me; I think now he's afraid of them.

I purchased a black corn snake from a local pet store and named it (I assume 'her') Slinky.

They grow up to 5 feet or 1.5 meters, are non-aggressive and found in southern USA. She only bit me once; I laid on the couch watching The Sopranos and didn't watch as my left hand grabbed her head gently so she snapped at me. I don't think they have "teeth", just little barbs. I learned a lot about snakes just owning her; they're extremely clean and do -not- smell like my father told me, haha....and they aren't messy eaters. Also, when she goes to the restroom it is so easy to clean..it's in a little crisp on her aspen I just scoop out and am done. AMAZING. I owned a lizard before and it was white crap here, white crap there; gotta strip the cage down and scrub every week. The snake goes about once a month before I clean her home. Seemingly, snakes don't really care if they have "sunlight" like maybe a human needs it for mood properties and also a normal cycle. They advise 12 hours of some spectrum of light so they don't go nuts, and you do have to monitor temperatures for day and night. Slinky does not like the prescribed heat though and sleep in the cold corner always.

Because she is a pet store owned and raised snake, she doesn't eat live mice, just frozen and thawed. It's fairly simple. So, then a reptile exhibit came to my city and I went and purchased a Honduran Milk snake, fire orange. They're closely similar to corn snakes, but their heads and color spectrum vary more.

http://i47.tinypic.com/9tmrea.jpg
http://i46.tinypic.com/vruiww.jpg

It was listed as a female when I got her, and she was cheap and very docile. I let her stay untouched in her home for a week, then took her out to feed her. She bit me twice and attacks the feeding box and bites herself; all of these things are not to worry I'm told but she's obviously nuts. I don't handle her too much though they say handle them more so they get adjusted to this treatment. When she bites it's a little more than a "just get off" bite, it's a "rip your thumb off!" latch of death. Still, nothing but chicklet teeth in there lol!

She won't eat. :(

It's been two weeks, I contacted the gentleman who sold her and he said they can go a month without food but if it persists to contact him again. I will take her to a rep-vet soon if she persists. she isn't pregnant either or shedding, which can trigger this behavior.

Funny thing about snakes; you can get them a REALLY elaborate cage with things to climb and hide in - they don't really appreciate it and can do fine living in a box under a paper towel with a plastic bowl of water so long as temps are right. Extremely simple minds lol, but both mine live in luxury. :)

Aww, Sombolia--stack o' cats! :D

And ah, reptiles. I'm a terrible animal person, or lie of an animal person, because just the thought of how much specialized care, concerns and equipment reptiles take has always put me off. I would throw all that laziness to the wind and dive right in if only I could own a tortoise, but turtles and tortoises are completely illegal in New Jersey. It makes me very sad.

Here's mr. Wally, the hammiest, most spoiled if sometimes over-enthusiastic (or else completely lazy) dog I've ever had. They said he was a Lab-Shepard mix, but you can see some kind of Bully breed floating around in him, too, not so much in this picture but when he's standing and you see the barrelly body and bandy hind legs, so who really knows. I just call him a Yellow. A yellow what? Nothing, he's just a Yellow, and a fine and cheerful one at that.

I posted pictures of her on Facebook, but this is our new puppy, Sprocket. :D Her name was Scrappy, but we thought my dad would take to calling her "Crappy" so we changed it. We chose the name Sprocket because my sister thinks her face looks like the dog from Fraggle Rock.

She's super smart. She knew and was responding to her new name just a few hours after we brought her home. She already knows "sit" and "potty" as well. I want to teach her some cool stuff.

Hamsters are illegal in some states, as are ferrets. It sometimes has to do with local species, public health (usually complete crap science behind those claims in particular), concerns about crop damage, and general prejudice toward the animal (as in pit bulls).

Yeah, it's some bs about salmonella. Unless you have a zoo or educational license/permit to have one, you can't own or purchase one and they aren't sold within state boundries. And even if you're enterprising and smuggle one in, you wouldn't be able to take it to the vet :(

Everybody has adorable pets!

Which brings me to mine  So I went and checked out the rabbits that I was interested in today, and came home with this fantastically adorable, smart, 16 weeks old male, currently named Bandit (though perhaps a little too cliche?), but it's been changing every hour or so, I may need help choosing a name. xD I know he's smart, because I have a little feeder ball that needs to be rolled around for the treats to come out. I put a few pellets in it and he'd worked it out in under a minute and then spent the longest time pushing it everywhere!

His breed is Smoke Pearl and the colour is called Smoke Pearl Marten. He's gorgeous, and also very lucky. He's going to be an outside rabbit, but since the temp is well above 35 degrees C today, he only spent about 1 1/2 hours in his hutch before getting the run of our laundry. Though runs on the lawn in his pen and maybe in the laundry too will be a regular thing, just not for quite so long as today I don't think.

Anyway, without further rambling, here he is! The images make him look a little darker than he is, but I love his dark face, ears, feet and tail.

Oh my gosh, he's so gorgeous. I LOVE his smokey, coal-dust coloring. He reminds me of a Grullo/Grulla horse, one of my favorite equine colorings. A few names come to mind, though some are probably a little obvious. xD Sulfur, Cinder, Jasper , Malachite (or Malakai for short?), Slate, Steele, Rhett, Rand, Vincent, Charn, Spirit....okay I'll stop here. xD You could always do what a lot of my friends do and name him after Disney characters. He could pull of a Kovu or a Basil, I think. x3

Thanks everyone, he is without a doubt the cutest rabbit ever. I was stupidly excited when Pat told me after the inspection that I was allowed to have a rabbit!

He looks so fuzzy, I love the lighter color venting :D Is he people-friendly/socialized, or a handful?

He is fuzzy! He is friendly to an extent, the lady I got him from was a breeder for shows etc, so he's been taken care of well and handled plenty, though not like one would handle a pet rabbit as much. Basically though, he'll come up to me quite happily but tends to back off a little when I pet him, and he likes being held, but he hates the process of being picked up, probably partly my technique not being quite as good as the lady who constantly handles rabbits :P But with time as he gets to know me more and I handle him more, I know he'll get a lot better. :)

I know, the colours are what drew me to him in the first place. I've literally been eyeing off the lady's add for her rabbits for the last month, even before I knew if I was allowed to have a rabbit or not  Was so glad to know she still had them. I had migrated through both Jasper and Basil already :p Bandit seems to have largely stuck though, so will probably end up just staying with that. Thanks for all the suggestions thoguh, Malakai is a nice name :)

Fail because double-post. But it contains substantial information so :p

Basically what happened was, the breeder told me Bandit was a male, however when we went to the vet, the vet was sure that Bandit was a female (no dropped male bits). So today (since it's been about 5 days since the vet visit) I decided to have a go sexing Bandit myself. The first time I tried, his genitals looked like a boy's, but it's a long time since I've sexed a rabbit myself, so I wasn't 100% sure. This afternoon, I did a bunch of reading and research from pictures etc before giving it another go. I look at his bits again and this time I was sure he was a boy, out of curiosity I also had a poke around and managed to find one of his testicles (rabbits can tuck them up against their bellies), so that was a definite pro for the boy argument  So Bandit, is 100% definitely a boy. Yay. Both because he's a boy like I wanted, but also because it means that I knew what I was looking at when I sexed him! Also neutering is $100 cheaper than spaying even after the vet told me Bandit was a girl, I found it very difficult to call him a her, so I hadn't switched over yet. Plus, it's good to finally just know.

In addition to all that, I apologise if it was too much information

cleargreenwater
March 4th, 2013, 01:21 PM
LOL, I used to breed/raise/tame/train pet fancy mice for ages back in the day, and sexing the things was the WORST. You can guess, and then second guess, and then second guess again, and then GOD HELP YOU if you're wrong because by the time you *know* you're wrong there's a good chance you're already too late. (Forget what they say about rabbits, haha :p) But you can't seperate them out individually either or their pecking order gets messed up and you might not ever be able to reintroduce them to each other without damage. It was a real uncertainty, and yeah, just feeling so elated that you were able to call it right, it's always such a nice little reassurance that you know what you're doing! XD Congrats on passing that test!

I have a question for the cat people among us, instead of making a new thread just for this :p

I have 2 woolen blankets (plaids?) and they are FILLED with cat hair.
I've tried going over them with the vacuum cleaner on high, but it just won't get the hairs out of the blankets.

Any idea's on how I can get them hair-free before I can put them in the washing machine?

I have this thought if I throw them in the washing machine like this, all the hairs will turn into a huge hair-ball and then will obviously will be off the blankets, lol, or that might just be my imagination, haha.

Wow, he got big/filled out. That's a hefty bunny! And dude, *I* think the toys look fun, nice set up too XD He doesn't try to push over the pen?

Last time I weighed him I think he came in at around 2.5kg, which I think is about 5 pounds? More to love :) Oh he tries to push the pen over alright  That's why outside pen time is strict supervised time only. The pen pegs into the ground so he can't push it over, but I know he can jump over it, he's just disinclined to which is fine by me. When I set up the pen inside, because i can't stake it into the ground he puts his little mouth around the bars and shakes it like crazy and tries to lift it, so I've had to work on ways to weigh it down so he can't do that. He's quite ambitious!

I think at the moment he's actually going darker with his current shedding. But it's a little hard to tell which way the colour is progressing. I think the first photos I posted of him were quite underexposed which may be why he looks lighter now :p He does love his toy keys, I've been meaning to get him some stacking cups but I haven't found any yet (not that he'll stack them but I know he'll love throwing them around). It does feel a little strange buying baby toys though

This is a video I took of him having some play time in the lounge room, I think he loves the traction on the carpet. Lounge room time is less frequent and also strictly supervised because sometimes he decides to pull on the carpet which is a HUGE no-no. Still trying to figure out a compromise with more room to run and no carpet pulling on that one.

Azerane
December 30th, 2013, 01:00 PM
Age related health issues, she was almost 18. Mum found her outside today. I knew it was coming, all the signs were there since she was in a bad way at Christmas, but I intended on taking her to the vet end of this week or early next week, just didn't get there in time. I knew it would be a one-way trip, just wish I'd had the chance for a proper goodbye that way. Almost feels like I failed her because I knew it was time and wanted to give her the peaceful end she deserved, just wasn't proactive enough about it. At least she's not suffering anymore.

cleargreenwater
December 30th, 2013, 01:14 PM
Yeah, and she got to be outside, too. It sucks that you weren't there to say goodbye, but at the same time it's an awful decision to have to take them to the Vet, at least she had the wide open sky this way <3

Yesterday at work, it hadn't even been 72 hours and someone's asking me whether I'm going to get another cat... -_- Can't really decide how I feel about that. But nevermind, I'm sure it was meant well. Just seemed a bit insensitive to me, especially since they'd only given me their condolences on facebook, and then the first time I actually saw them they asked me that.

Can you tell it bothered me?

nathalie
January 2nd, 2014, 07:12 PM
I personally wouldn't be bothered by that, but I guess that's just about a certain way you feel about it.

If it were me, losing a cat, I would get another one as soon as I could, no one can replace the cat you had before, which is normal, but it's not impossible to love another cat as much :)

I've lost a few along the way :( I can't wait to have another kitten again!

Azerane
January 2nd, 2014, 11:09 PM
It's not that I don't want another cat, I always want to have cats but i can't jump straight into another pet like that. I can't explain it, just feel like it's forgetting the other pet too soon.

nathalie
January 3rd, 2014, 07:28 AM
And that's a pretty normal reaction.
I'm quite different in these things. I've had 3 other acts after my first one died.
Its been 15 years ago, so it does fade a little, but not a week goes by that I don't remember her.

After Daisy died, I wanted another dog straight away and we got Ava. Was hard coming home and not having my baby waiting, and I needed one to hug and cuddle all the time. Our house just needed not to be sad anymore. The toilet training part annoyed me and mum, patience wasn't very good. Now we're upto where she keeps sneaking my socks and lingerie and heading out to the garden where she lies curled up with them

I completely understand the way the house feels empty afterwards. When I lost Furry it was really noticed because whenever we got home from school he would be sitting in the driveway waiting, or if he wasn't he would be at the back door by the time we got inside. I suppose it is a personal thing, I feel like I just need that time in between.

Ava is beautiful :)

After me and my family lost our first cat, Simba, we too decided to get another cat very soon after. It was only about a week, I think. I was devastated when Simba died, but Zig-Zag, the kitten we adopted, really helped me to think about something other than the fact that Simba was gone and that the house was empty. When you have a pet you can't sit around and be sad all the time - you have someone you have to look after. And that didn't mean that I had forgotten about Simba or stopped loving him for one moment. I still wish he was around, he could easily have lived to be 13 years old, as he would've been now, but Zig-Zag is so important too.

We're all different and I can see how it could be difficult to think about getting another cat so soon after you lost one. I hope you feel better soon, Azzy :hugs:

Azerane
January 4th, 2014, 11:58 AM
Thanks Kanu. :hugs: I understand wanting to fill that void and having another pet helps you keep focused I suppose.

In terms of when I do get a cat, my dream cat breed has always been a Somali cat (a male in the Ruddy colour), and I've actually been considering naming him Simba  This is completely not something I've been planning for years :p But it is one of those things that will happen when Pat and I finally have ourselves sorted out, are actually living together properly in the same country and have our own place. So a little while away yet. But I think that's the only way I'll be getting a cat again.

cleargreenwater

. Now we're upto where she keeps sneaking my socks and lingerie and heading out to the garden where she lies curled up with them

They are such hyper bratty children, LOL!

I can see both angles. The senior dog I'd adopted had only been gone for 3 months when my mother brought home Wally and I flipped out. When my childhood dog Holly died, I was so devastated I didn't have a pet for years; Millie the senior was sort of like fostering more than legitimate pet but I still thought it was too soon. However, just like Safila, someone/something new and fresh and cuddly and squishy and bright and wonderful needed to come into this home a.s.a.p., and Wally was & is a goddamn gift.

Azerane, I'd like to think that maybe pretend the other person was just *really* concerned about all the homeless cats in shelters? So you don't smack them? lol

How would you find a cat that's okay with Bandit anyway? o_O

Azerane
January 5th, 2014, 03:25 AM
In regards to cats and bunnies, I know for a fact that I never could have kept a rabbit when I still had my childhood cat, Furry. He was a hunter and often caught wild rabbits. However, there are many rabbits that boss around cats and many cats and rabbits that do get along (though I wouldn't leave them unsupervised just in case). But bringing in a cat to live with a rabbit, if I adopted an adult I would need to find a cat that was good with small animals. Getting a kitten, you can train them to get along or at least leave the other pet alone. My goal is for any future cats I have to be indoor only, which hopefully means with no actual hunting experience, they won't be inclined to try it on Bandit :p He weighs about 6 pounds so it's not like he's tiny or anything. Plus, I get the feeling that Bandit has enough spunk that he wouldn't let a cat bother him if it was.

Az, so sorry to hear about your kitty. :( I think I would have trouble getting a new pet right away as well, but then again who knows? I haven't been in that situation since I was 7....our family pet right now is a Cocker Spaniel named Corky and he is about to be 15 this year....so we'll see. I may be telling a similar story soon. : ( Here's a picture of him from 2011:

Bec, I know how you feel, I feel like I need some time before getting a new pet after one passes away. When our first cat, Buddy, passed away, I just moved in with my dad, and he said I could get another cat. All I told him is that I don't want another cat, at least not then... (I guess he thought saying that to me would make me feel better, he could tell I was upset and sad about Buddy) It feels like if I get a new pet that fast, it's like I am replacing the last pet. Getting a new pet so fast after one passes away, just does not feel right to me. I need some time. I'm not sure why, but I do. We have another cat now, Miss Kitty, and I know will never forget about Buddy. So I know that getting a new pet will not replace the old one, but I do feel like I need time after one passes away before getting a new pet, especially when it's same type of animal.

Bella, our dog, I miss her. No worries, she is alive, just living with my mom, since she is my mom's dog... But I just moved away from my mom, a 6 hour drive away. I've only been here for 10 days and I miss that cute, sweet little dog. I hope I can see her again soon. But that depends on if I get a job soon or not I guess. I could bring her to San Francisco for a visit too, my mom is ok for that, but I'm not sure for how long. I guess over a month is too long. But it's better if we get settled in first before I bring her for a visit, I still have a few boxes to go through and find places for the items that are inside the boxes. :p

I can understand that you miss Bella, Audra. But at least you have Miss Kitty with you and as you said, you might be able to bring Bella down for visits sometime :)

I just booked Bandit in for the vet on saturday (lucky him). Annual health check and calicivirus vaccination. I was finally able to make an appointment, have had to wait for the heat to die down as I didn't want to be taking him out and making the trip on these really hot days.

I guess he's ours now ...

Last week Friday, boyfriend was doing some work in the front garden.
I come outside to have a look, and he's like: there's a cat lying here for a bit now.
We tried poking it (yeah, lol) and it just wouldn't move.
It looked so sad. He's skinny to the bone, we tried petting him, and you could feel his spine and shoulders sticking out, fur completely durty (and such a pain, because he's got long fur) poor thing :(

It's been a week tomorrow, and we still haven't find any reasons, that would justify his original owners, for him to look like he does.
A think a cat can always find food when he's outside somewhere?

Kenny thought it was so sad, so he gave him a little bit of food, and I know "you feed it, you keep it" lol, but Kenny was more upset with it then I was, so :p

It HAD to be a housepet, because he doesn't jump on you when you walk in with food.
And when you sit down, even if you try to block him, he WILL get on your lap.
He wondered of 2 days ago, when Kenny got home from work, and he was quite upset, and when he called me to say there was no cat, I guess I kind of was too, you get attached to a sweet thing so fast, hehe.
But 2 hours later, when I got back home, he was sitting in the driveway ^^

We still have to take him to the vet, to see if he has a chip (no tattoo, or bit out of his ear), so he isn't really ours yet, untill we find out if he has a chip or not.

He looks a lot better now, this was last week Friday, when he looked all hobo-ish, his fur looks better now and such.

Awww, love seeing everyone's pets :)

Here's one of my little stinker. He's in such a mood today, first I found him up on this box on the washing machine (he hasn't gone up there in about a year) and then, when I was cleaning, he was in a mood and ripping things and took a piece of tape off his box that I didn't know was there. When I noticed him eating it I tried to take it from him and he growled at me! I've never heard him growl before, then I tried again and he growled again. So... now I just have to hope and wait that it passes, because that stupid little piece of tape could kill him.

My little man.

I love all these pictures of all the pets. Azerane, Bandit's new home looks very nice. ;) Leor, that video you took of Matilda and your toad is funny. I like watching videos of all the pets as well! So I think I will upload some videos too.

These next three videos are at least a couple years old, they were recorded while I was living in Oregon.

Bella and Babette playing together. Babette is the miniature poodle. She is the neighbor's dog, and Bella mother. But she comes over a lot to visit and Bella gets to go next door to visit Babette too. Works out good, since the love to play together.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/birdygirl85/th_Ivan003.mp4 (http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v242/birdygirl85/Ivan003.mp4)

Haha, I have a lot of short videos of Bella playing with other dogs. Here she is playing with my sister's dog when she was a puppy. Smaller then Bella even. This video was taken with a really old camera, so it doesn't have any sound.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/birdygirl85/th_DSCN1427.mp4 (http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v242/birdygirl85/DSCN1427.mp4)

I had a couple more videos I wanted to show, but I guess I never uploaded them to Photobucket. Maybe I'll find them later on my laptop and put them online.

Here's a couple that is a little more recent, just last month when I was visiting my family in Oregon. I went to the Oregon coast with my mom, my nephew Ivan and Bella. It was so much fun and I know they loved it. I loved it there, the weather was so nice and it was just fun to be at the beach with Bella and my family.

Bella will usually get the ball and bring it back to you, but if she doesn't at least I know my nephew Ivan will. So cute.

I would of liked to have taken more photos and videos that day, but my phone battery died while I was at the beach.

And here's some love for Miss Kitty. I took this photo just a couple days ago.

Guntur, is that an exotic shorthair? That's an awesome photo! :cheese:

So a few weeks ago a snake came into the lobby at my job.
They cost $50 at a pet store, generic corn snake. I do already own one named Slinky who is huge now, I'll have to get an update of her.

This one is smaller, a baby trying to come in for some warmth. I kept her because winter is on the way and they kill them around here.

..but she's a bit crazy.

http://i58.tinypic.com/xp7i9k.jpg

She has been very good about eating. I get her frozen pinky mice (very small ones), thaw them in hot water and feed them warm to her.
For two weeks she had one a week, then two a week to help her with stress and getting comfortable. Except this week I fed her and she threw up both of them in 10 minutes. She's not sluggish or acting weird, actually very alive and alert. I'm not sure..perhaps it was not properly thawed, or too much at once for her..or stress? I'm going to wait a week and feed her..she should be hungry then.

Slinky, the big one, eats one a week but they typically go once a month at that size..so Slinky is growing very fast!

This is Ben a year ago. He died yesterday.
:simbacry:
Born around spring 2002 so he was slightly over 14 years old. We had to destroy him. We thought he will pass naturally but it wasn't the case. He's got cancer and something happened yesterday. It blow out inside his rectum and he start bleeding heavily. He lost maybe three liters of blood. We called Vet. He arrived after while and had only one option. It was so quick. In one moment you are holding beloved friend fighting his last fight and in seconds you're holding just lifeless poor being. I cannot describe my feelings when it happened. I still see his passing eyes.

This was my beloves cat, Kira.
My husband and I had to make a terrible choice last Friday. She has sufferd from thyrotoxicosis, pancreatitis and a chronic enteritis for the last few years and we managed to treat these things quite well with medicine.
She had to take her pills twice a day. One pill in the morning and one in the evening and things went quite well.
However, about a week ago, she started to get incontinent and I figured she suffered a lot. So I went to see the vet, but due to her thyrotoxicosis, she has always been quite aggressive eveytime we went there. It was really hard to examine her at all. She already had only little weight (around 2,9kg...) to begin with, because of her thyrotoxicosis and thus it has been quite dangerous to give her an anesthesia at all. So after along talk with her doctor we learned that she might suffer from an allergy, a bladder infection, probably caused by a bladder stone. To cure this would have become very painful for my beloved cat and so my husband and I had to make that terrible decision. Terrible for us, but I think in the end it was a good thing that we ended her suffering. She was put to sleep and it all happend very quickly. I don't think she suffered in the end... But it's really sad, because it feels like a part of my pride is missing now :(

Farewell, my dear friend!

Some good news from us today. After losing Bandit in January I've been planning for and wanting another rabbit for months. Today we went and met some bunnies and adopted this lovely pair. They came with the names Tony (white) and Rosie. We'll be changing the names but I haven't come up with the right ones yet. I was only going to adopt a single rabbit, but I didn't really connect with any of the singles there whereas I felt like Tony was "the one" so to speak. The lady offered to separate them for me but I didn't want them splitting a bonded pair so now we have both :) They're settling in pretty well and seem quite content. They are such gorgeous bunnies and I'm looking forward to seeing how they come out of their shell.

Guys, I kept this a bit quiet during the last couple of weeks, but... *sigh* long story short, Matilda was diagnosed with anemia and kidney failure. Her body stopped producing red blood cells, fell ill, and she finally passed away yesterday evening :(

What made it hardest was that I was carrying her back from the vet to get her home (we decided not to intern her and let her spend her last days with us), but she literally died in my arms at the car park :cs_cry_1:

She was in my family for almost 8 years, and we'll remember her very dearly.

Thank you for your words, guys :hugs:

It's hard coming to terms with it, but I'll slowly get there. She had been through something similar before some years ago if you remember, when we were told she would have to be put to sleep, but she survived in the end and got to live for longer. But it would have been too much to hope for something like that to repeat. At least she died seeing a familiar face and not alone.

And at least she'll continue to live as a Pokemon now, my brother named this Houndour like Matilda some years ago when X/Y were released. I discovered it and transfered it to my game to train her. She'll have all the love meter to the top :)
905

On a much brighter note, a couple of months ago my sister wasn't able to take care of her dog in her flat anymore, so we decided to make home for him here, and now he lives with us.
So... Meet Tory, he's our new Yorkshire Terrier, and a very hyperactive one :p
He got to live along with Matilda for a while, they didn't exactly get along at first, but they learned to tolerate each other's presence with some getting used to.
Now it's just him, but that kind of helped with the transition.

Aww, Leor, I am so sorry to hear about Matilda passing away. :(

That is good you have Tory there, I'm sure that probably helps somewhat. I feel it would be sad to go home without a happy dog greeting you anymore, when you've been used to that for years. (Tory is very cute by the way.)

My mom recently talked about getting another dog, a play mate for Bella. I almost thought that was a little strange, she has never mentioned that before that I remember. She has also recently mentioned that she kind of wishes she bred Bella so she had puppies before she got her fixed. But I think it's because Bella is getting older, she is over 10 years old now. It's quite sad for me to think about, even though Bella hopefully has 4 or 5 more years left. I love Bella so much, I've never loved a dog more than Bella. But no one lives forever, I know. Just this past August, we took Bella to the Oregon coast, we have been doing that for a few years in a row now, every summer. This last time, she was playing and running around the first day on the beach, but on the second day, she seemed so tired and just wanted to lay on the beach. For some reason that was a little sad for me to see she was that tired, it kind of hit home to me that Bella is getting older. But it was quite warm that day too, maybe that had something to do with it.

I didn't really mention this to many people, but Bella was attacked by a bigger dog last June, I was in Oregon when it happened. (Although, I didn't see her get attacked.) But I went with my mom to take her to the vet, she had a gash in her neck and had to get stitches, and I helped take care of her while I was in Oregon those two weeks while she was recovering. It was really upsetting that happened, but I am so thankful she didn't die that day, and that she fully recovered. I've heard horror stories of small dogs getting attacked and killed by bigger dogs. :( I cherish all the time I get with her when I do see her.

Here's a picture of my girls. ;) Not really a recent photo, it's a few years old. But they still look the same. It's a bit blurry, but I tried to look for a photo that I haven't already uploaded online in the past.

As some of you know, I have two fluffy roomies named Ziggy and Cassian since January this year :kionhappy2:

They're Norwegian Forest Cats, my favourite breed <3 They'll grow up to be really big and heavy (though not as big as Maine Coons) which I love, haha, though it makes it difficult to transport them. I'm hoping I'll have a car by the time I need to travel with them xP Right now they're just about to turn 9 months old. They're brothers from the same litter; I decided I wanted two from the beginning so that they can keep each other company while I'm away during the days.

I was browsing for cats for sale back in November on what is, essentially, the Swedish eBay (though on this site you can post ads for anything and everything, from pets to houses to jobs) and it just so happened that the breeder lived in the neighbouring town! I think that I decided there and then that I wanted them, haha. I brought them home after New Year's and even though it's been a long period of adjustment for both them and me, we're all finally settling down and coming to terms with that we're stuck with each other now :p They're such lovely cats with great temperaments. Aside from nibbling on every piece of loose clothing or plastic bag that happens to be lying around (which on the other hand means that my flat is 100% more tidy these days, haha), they're so well-behaved. I'm really quite impressed - you can tell they were raised well!

My family visited last weekend and brought their good camera, so I have some really nice pictures of them at last. Naturally I have to post some here, now that I can actually contribute to this thread

Awww they're so cute and fluffy! :) I googled Norwegian Forest Cats, and wow, they're huge! I guess that's like the closest one can be to owning a "big" cat. That's so awesome! x3

I'd love to have a cat again someday. I had one like 10 years ago and I'm kind of missing it, but recently I visited a friend's house with a cat and... I found out I'm allergic to it, I couldn't stop sneezing and having itchy eyes when I was around it :cs_sorry: I find it strange because I already had cats when I was younger. Maybe I'm just allergic to certain breeds? Or could I have acquired it somehow?

Aw, Kanu, they are so cute! Look at those fluffy faces. =D

Norwegian forest cats are amazing. It's the bad breeders one has to look out for though. I briefly owned a NF kitten a few years ago and it didn't end well...:(

And allergies can come and go...And with correct medication one might be able to control it. It depends I guess. And there are some breeds, like Russian Blue, Devon Rex and Siberian Forest cats(very similar to Norwegian Forest cats) that are claimed to be hypoallergenic.

Azerane

First up, long time no see :P

Secondly, Kanu, how did I never comment on your absolutely stunningly gorgeous kitties!! :D How are they?

Thirdly, we're getting a kitten!! :D :cheese: Ok, so stall the excitement because we have at least a 5 month wait before there's one available, but I'm super excited. It's been in the works for a few weeks now, since Pat has been working for a few months we have spare money and are able to save up etc. So he suggested we get a cat, but not just any cat, my dream cat, a Somali: http://www.frontrangeabyssinianssomalis.com/images/SAC_Charger_2.jpg

So, me being a bit cat crazy that I am, I have been following a local breeder on facebook for years so instantly knew who to contact etc. So we've touched base with the breeder, and gotten approval from our landlord. I met the breeder and some of her cats at a cat show and all is going well from there. She's expecting litters in a few months and depending on how many/genders etc will determine whether there is one available for us. Then we'll get to bring our gorgeous kitty home at around 12 weeks of age :) I am beyond excited, the time can't go fast enough, I've been cat-less for five YEARS!!! The longest I've lived without cats before that is maybe one year... when I was four.

OK, you guys are the first to know!!! :D Ages ago I said we were getting a kitty. We've been talking with the breeder for 5-6 months and it worked out that there wasn't a tawny kitten available for us when she thought there would be. Her two tawny cats produced 2 tawny and 2 blue kittens. She's been breeding for 20 years and never had a blue so it was a big surprise. As a result, we were going to wait another 5-6 months from now to get the tawny that I wanted. I visited her and the kittens at a show today, they're 13 weeks old. She still had one blue girl available and I spent a long time cuddling her. She was delightful and was super settled with me. I ummed and ahh'd, came home, talked it out with Pat, then sent her an e-mail that I'd love to give the blue girl a home. I'm ringing her tomorrow to confirm all the details. But for now here she is. :) I'm so excited. Thank goodness I had already bought so many kitten things in my excitement, so we're not missing that much. Preparing the house will be the biggest challenge in the just under 2 week time frame. I need to clean out the spare room.

Phone pics aren't great.

Awww! :pumbaalove: The blue is so lovely though <3 In my cat daydreams I wanted a silver tabby, black or even a calico Norwegian, but here I am with two red and white harlequins. Sometimes they choose us I guess ;P

She looks wonderful. You must post more photos once she's home! :D

Also hide your shoestrings, is all I'm saying :p

Kossu, sorry I missed the pics of your hammy there, super cute :D We don't have hamsters here so it's always great to see pics.

Yes, it was sort of a compromise for my dream. I still have my heart set on a tawny Somali boy at some point. I've asked the breeder to keep us on her waiting list and see if we're in a position to add another when the time comes.

Shoelaces I'm not fussed about, but we have so many little bits and pieces just lying around that I need to clean up. In addition, I was originally going to get time off work when we expected our kitten, but because this is out of the blue and right before Christmas I can't get any time off. Which means I need to clean out the spare room so that it can be a kitten room while we're at work. I need to be able to supervise kitten, rabbit and parrot interactions for some time before I'm ok with leaving her out unattended. So we need the spare room for plenty of play space etc while she's shut in there. I'm hoping she settles in quick and we only need to shut her in for a week while I'm at work. Then maybe in the bedroom at night (haven't quite worked out the litter tray situation with that though), but I can't have her trying to play with Dory through the cage while she's trying to sleep, lol.

I would love to have a pet, but while I can't have one, let me show my aunt cat. I visited her last weekend (she lives in Rio de Janeiro), and I got surprised how big her cat is. He is just 1 year old!
In this photo, he sat on my mother bag and didn't wanted to leave it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/8905ac7c81f6cb9d33059217529cf5d5.jpg

I know most of y'all have seen my new baby on Facebook, but I'll put him here too because he's just too cute.

This is Imhotep, my six month old Sphynx cat. My sister got him for me in April after I lost my 13 year old baby Kit-Kat in October. I was pretty lost and depressed so she decided to do something about it. I've always loved Sphynx cats, so she started looking and found this lovely boy for me. He is so amazing and I am grateful for him every single day.

I love seeing your pictures of Imhotep on Facebook, he's so adorable! :) it's also interesting to see all the cat anatomy we normally can't see when they have fur. And hey, that's a cat I wouldn't be allergic to xD

I wonder, does he need some kind of special skin care? like whenever he's exposed to the sun or something (although I guess he's pretty much indoors all of the time)

Nothing special really. He does get kind of dirty because he doesn't have fur to absorb the oils like furred cats do. So I give him baths when that happens. He can get sunburned, so we have to be careful with sitting in windows and when we go out. They don't make sunscreen for them unfortunately. Sphynx are strictly indoor kitties because of that. :)

They're also very clingy cats. He's always on my lap wanting snuggles. He's on me right now in his shark blanket, watching the rain from a safe distance

They're actually not hypoallergenic because they're not actually hairless. They have a very very fine and thin peachfuzz. You can really see Imhotep's when he's dirty, that's part of how I figure out when he needs a bath. ;)

He feels like a freshly shaved leg, or really warm velvet if you're wondering

ThiagoPE; That's a really pretty cat! Looks very fluffy too.:smile3:

And HasiraKali, your little guy is adorable!:D Are those cats related to the Devon Rex breed? His face really reminds me of them.

They are related to Devon Rex, yes. The breed was developed using Devon Rex and cats that were born with the recessive hairless gene. I know they've also used a lot of Siamese in the development of more recent lines.

I'm going to use Imhotep next Spring as an example when I teach the dominant and recessive section of my genetics unit.

I am quite excited to announce, that after a lot of consideration and, if all goes well, we will be getting a puppy in a few weeks.:D

My partner will be working from home for quite a few more months and we have both plenty of time to spend on its upbringing for the next months, so we agreed it was a good opportunity.

We went to look at a nest and the parents yesterday and they were all lovely. After about an hour of observing and interacting with the puppies we picked this sweet girl:1027

If all goes well, she can come home with us in 2-3 weeks. The current owners will have a vet checkup on all the puppies in a few days and they have to stay with their mother for a while longer. So we are waiting patiently, but aaargh, we're both very happy and excited! =D

Your puppy is absolutely adorable! :aww: What breed is she? :D

Thank you Kanu and CGW!:hugs:

She's an Old German shepherd dog(like a long haired gs)! We've been looking for a while, though before we moved to our new place we knew it wasn't possible, because there was no space. After the move, with the quarantine and the ruined travel plans we decided there wouldn't be a better opportunity anytime soon...Since we want to commit to bringing it up properly and we both have a lot of time right now. And space. :D

We were looking for a regular german shepherd at first, since we both really love those dogs. It was very trying to find a good breeder though. We came across many animals that from pups already didn't look healthy, with no papers or parents to show and insane prices. Sadly it seems that GS lines are still very diluted from overbreeding...So we started looking at breed variations as well(some of those lines aren't as harmed from overbreeding). I had a bad experience 6 years ago with a norwegian forest cat kitten I had adopted that didn't turn out very well(had an underlying illness and died 3 months after I adopted her...I had to take her to the vet every other week, it was horrible. She was suffering and there was nothing I could do...:() So we were very cautious this time.

In the end we found a breeder with registered, checked, healthy dogs. And they grow up in a proper environment with a family, older dogs and other animals etc. That was all very important to us.

On Monday we'll go visit her once more and we'll learn when we can take her home. Today she got her first shots and they did a vet checkup, which was fine from what we heard.:)

For now focusing on puppy-proofing the house and preparing. But we're very giddy and excited about it.:D

On the 12th of June she can come home with us.=D We visited her again last Monday, she's so lovely!:timonlove:

Made some more photos too, she's growing so fast! 10281029

Also, we decided to call her Kiara, since we're TLK dorks.:p My partner proposed the name and at first I wasn't very convinced...then I remembered Kiara is supposed to mean small dark thing so....yeah I was convinced.

Kossu, how has life been so far with your new puppy? That is such a happy news to get a new pet!

Unfortunately, I have sad news about our pet... Our cat Miss Kitty passed away around the end of May. :( She just ended up getting worse during the last couple weeks of her life, and we had her vet do tests on her to see if anything could be done for her. But all the results showed was that she anemic, and we were told we should start thinking of euthanasia. We knew three years ago she had a small tumor in her liver, so she did have cancer. We did feel lucky that we had her for an additional three years since we discovered that, but that last week of her life was really hard. Taking her to the vet to euthanize her was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. But it's something every pet owner will have to go through eventually. But Petteri couldn't go into the vet office with me when it was done because of covid-19, they were only allowing one person in for euthanasia, and I had to wear a mask. (I didn't mind wearing a mask, but I wish Petteri would have been allowed to come with me). Petteri was in the car outside, but still it was so hard. For a while after it was done, it was the first thing in my mind when I would go to bed, and when I would wake up in the morning. It was so sad. I guess it was a traumatic experience for me, even though euthanasia is a peaceful and painless way to go for an animal. Time passing had eventually made it easier for me, time does heal wounds, but I still miss her. I miss her cuddling with me. She loved to cuddle and lay on my arm, near my face. She was so soft and such a sweet kitty. I know that she had a long life and we took good care of her. But it's still always hard. But that is life. Her vet recently sent us a sympathy card, with some ink prints of her paw prints on some cards. That was so sweet. We also have an envelope with a little bit of her soft fur in it. At the time she was starting to be euthanized, I was asked if I should like a little bit of her fur, so I said yes. It's not on display yet, but I want to put it in a clear envelope. We put the paw prints near a framed picture of her in our living room, along with her collar and tag. She was a great kitty, and my family had her for 14 years.

I'm so very sorry for your loss Sharifu...:hugs:

It's really, REALLY hard to say goodbye to a pet. At least you did give her a long, happy and comfortable life. And you were there for her to the very end. I'm so sorry the Covid-19 situation made it more complicated for you and Petteri. :(

My parents had to euthanize my dog 8 years ago and I was abroad at the time. He was 11 years old and he had already been seriously sick(leishmaniasis, fairly common in Southern Europe) and on daily medication for 4 years. He was already immunocompromised, because of his illness and age and then he got another infection and it escalated very fast. I didn't get to say goodbye and it was really devastating. It haunted me for years and years. Time did help heal the wound to an extent and knowing that we did what we could to help alleviate his suffering. But it's very hard regardless.:(

On a more positive note, it's been going quite well with Kiara.

She's over 3 months old now and 16kg already.:o She's sweet and playful and a very intelligent dog. There are times that she can get tiring, because she's still teething and she is really into biting EVERYTHING in sight. And since she's kind of a big dog already it can get quite annoying. But it's a natural behaviour for puppies and day by day it is decreasing. We have taught her a few commands already and she responds very well, so that helps too.
At times, she can get quite vocal, but that is also typical behaviour of the breed (for example: We ask her to sit and she doesn't really want to, but she does it anyway, whining. Or she walks in front of the couch, knows she's not allowed to jump there, but is standing in front of it whining anyway. :p). She is social and careful with other dogs and small kids(we had some friends over last weekend and were really surprised to how gentle she was with their 6 year old kid). In general, she's a bright note to our lives right now and helps us forget the grimness of the situation...so we're quite happy we went through with the decision and adopted her.:)

Here are some recent photos of her:10341035

She's not my pet, but she's the next best thing, once in a while. Hopefully a few good times, hehe.

I registered to be a cat-sitter back in January, but then all this mess happened, and surely, no one would want a stranger in their house off course during a time like that.
But then in June I got a request.
I went to the persons house, got to know each other a little, get all the info about the cat, and then she gave me the housekey.

A lot of trust goes into that.

First day "on the job" I did wipe everything before I touched it, and on my last visit of the week, I did it again, so it was safe for her.

Feed her, empty litter box, water plants, watch TV for 2 hours a day... twice a day. Nice. You get a very nice amount for doing it.
I'd say "play with cat" but she couldn't care less, lol. She's more of a hugger, lol.

On my last day, I got a new request from her to go back mid-August (I knew this, she did mention they were going away a few more times maybe this year).

It is something, and for me, what better way to spend my day, then to hang out with a cat.

Adam's supervisor got word of it, and he might need a cat-sitter next month too.
And then Adam needs to go take care of a friends cats, so cats all around in August!

I have some bad news regarding our dog, Charlie. He had problems with his right back leg for a while. He had an MRI scan done on Friday. The results came back and the vet called on Monday, unfortunately with very bad news.

He had a tumor on his sciatic nerve and the only option for treatment was amputation, and with his age, there was no way we were going to put him through that. So I’m afraid we have all taken the difficult decision as a family to say our goodbyes today. He was part of the family since he was 5 months old and has been a very important member in our family. We loved him to bits, we will always love him to bits. We are all heartbroken, but it’s for the best. We just couldn’t see him suffer any longer. :tears:

Rest in peace my boy <3 We will hopefully meet again someday...

Oh, that's what happened :( Poor Charlie, just having a regular pinched nerve in your back is bad enough, I cant imagine how much pain he must've been in.

I bet he had a huge personality, from what I hear from a good friend of mine terriers are absolutely irrepressible and stubborn as all get-out if they want to be! <3
