Yeah, and I don't like mine...

It's really odd, but I'm still not used to it, that website are so strechted now.

I had no other choice, impossible to find a "square" screen over here nowaydays.

I have a widescreen on my laptop. I like it, but I have to edit wallpapers so I can use them, otherwise the distortion gives me a headache.

Here's my current one. :D

No I know who he is. ;) I like him quite a bit. I think I first heard of him from "Notre Dame de Paris". My sister has one of his albums. I don't remember which one. It's hard to find his stuff here.

Yay for pwnage! :D Sharks are so awesome.

Woah! *does victory dance* That's so cool! It's hard to find fans around the USA sometimes. Him being a Francophone singer and all. :D I first heard of him from Notre Dame de Paris as well, and then when I heard one of his "real" songs (Gitan) I was hooked.

And YES it is hard to find his stuff around here. To get a poster I waited a month and a half to get one from Quebec off his website. But I officially love that poster. As much as my TLK poster.

As yes sharks rock. My mom walked in as soon as I finished commenting on it. She did a little "ahh!"

HasiraKali

Awesome. Has she been watching Shark Week?

DarkPaw
August 3rd, 2007, 07:28 PM
She wouldn't dare. I let her watch the shark leaping out of the water on "Planet Earth" and she just sort of stood there yelling about how scary it was. She had...issues with swimming after she saw "Jaws".

HasiraKali
August 3rd, 2007, 08:01 PM
OOoh. You mean she screams in fear. I thought you mean like a happy scream. I just watched one about shark mating... I feel dirty now. Air Jaws II is coming on right now. :D

LOL, does anyone recall how D.W. from that show Arthur was always afraid of Octopuses even in pools and lakes? That's how my mom is with sharks.

I was going to watch some of those shark documentaries but my brother is watching the new Spongebob Episodes. Those aren't all that great, by the way.

I wonder how people can have THAT MANY icons and files on their desktop folder. Isn't it much faster to access these applications through well ordered menu entries?

Personally - I only have applications and file-links there I really use all the time. Everything else is on the menu:

Firefox (browser)
Thunderbird (e-mail)
Gaim Messenger (ICQ & AIM)
FTP folders (my servers)
Eclipse Platform (Script and Java development)
Gimp (Image Editor)
Local Home folder (local filesystem)
Root folder (local filesystem)
Mount Manager (yeah, that's Linux, people...)
Root Console (command line)
System Administration (Linux / KDE)
K-AudioKreator (CD-Ripper and Audio Encoder)
Trash (of course... :P)

BTW - Thiago - that's a KDE-Theme I once did:

Maybe for you, but everyone is different. Some people like lots of icons on their desktops so that they don't have to go rumaging in sub folders and what not. One of my friends has a desktop even more busy than TL's and he told me that he would feel lost if he didn't have his desktop icons.

Anyway, here be my new desktop. Cookie goes to anyone who isn't British to guess what that bridge is called.

Of course - my father is one of those people who wallpapers his entire screen with icons.

Yet, no matter if someone likes that or not, it isn't efficient. In fact I know many people who don't even find what they want on there.

Who cares? It's the computer owner's choice how to have his or her desktop. Are you confusing efficiency with tidiness? Because sure, an emptier desktop looks neater, but that doesn't mean to say it's any more efficient than a cluttered desktop. It's all about opinion and what people prefer using. People like TL may find that desktops as busy as his are more efficient to them. It doesn't boil down to what just one person thinks.

I love my shortcuts on my desktop...

If I have to go to START and then browse through everything, I can never find a program as quick as I can find it on my desktop.

So yeah, everyone's own choice :) And I don't really care how someone else does it, hehe :p

My desktop! Widescreen, baby!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i181/lucyparker1986/Desktop.png

As you can see, my desktop is truly minimalist. Even my Start Menu is minimalist, but then I don't have that many programs on here because it's still a relatively new machine. I totally can't have anything cluttering up my desktop.

I've had a bit of a problem finding really nice high definition wallpapers in the 1400x900 size - so for now, I'm using one of the Vista desktops. Anyone know of a good place to get widescreen desktops?

I care about it. That's why I said "I wonder how people can have it that way".

...it's not more than a question to exactly those people - or ain't I allowed to ask such questions?

An emptier desktop looks neater and is for the person who doesn't mind not having shortcuts.
A busier desktop looks like it has a purpose and is for the person who wants shortcuts.

Empty = Looks nice rather than practical.
Busy = Practical and looks nice with a simple picture.

Take my desktop -

http://aycu39.webshots.com/image/27398/2006093823897772592_rs.jpg

Its a simple background with all the shortcuts I need not being that intrusive. Find a balance and it works ^_^

Ok, I agree with the fact that a desktop with less icons looks neater but is it really a big deal? I have loads of icons on my desktop too, and I do think that it looks a bit disorganised. But I still know where everything is, and I think that's all that matters.

Anyway, here's my newest. :D

Even if that desktop is that old - it's a relief of your "computing behavior". As I'm a software-developer myself, that's something of interest for me ;)

As tikkeri said, Its my Computer *hugs My computer*,
Nobody ever said different. I think it's just interesting that you people can work with such a setup :P

You Hug Your own Computer, and do what ever you like :D
You sure you've deactivated your remote desktop support? :P

To King Simba: that's a cool background

Talking about "shortcuts"... I believe the fastest way to execute applications is still that one:

Because it's what they're used to I imagine. I "prefer" a tidy desktop, but if it gets lots of icons on it I don't mind since I click them all the time so I know where they are.

...it's not more than a question to exactly those people - or ain't I allowed to ask such questions?
Of course you are, it's just that the way you asked the initial question made it sound like you were saying that anyone who has an untidy desktop is doing it wrong. And there is no right and wrong when it comes to a PERSONAL desktop (;

That totally sums me up. I'm always more bothered about how things look than how practical they are. I have everything organised into subfolder after subfolder. Sure, it takes time to find something, but I don't care about that. I'm just so superficial, hehe. :p

If shortcuts really should be fast to reach, then put them in the toolbar instead, then you dont even have to go to the desktop at all since toolbar is always visible :D *ish a icons in toolbar freak*
