I like to eat a lot of spicy foods. Most things I add hot sauce to. I even add it to instant noodle soups. Do we have any other fans of spicy foods here? What is the most unusual food you like to spice up? For me, I sometimes dip cheese in hot sauce.

In Texas, hot sauce is more popular than ketchup. We eat a lot of it at our house too. We even take our own on vacation because some places don't have it, and I'm sorry but Tabasco is baby stuff. :p

Hot sauce is very versatile. While not sauce, the main ingredient, cayenne pepper, is REALLY good in chocolate anything. I can't think of the weirdest thing I've put sauce on right now though.

I'm not huge fan of hot foods. Don't get me wrong I like spicy, but if the main thing you're tasting is spiciness, then something is wrong. I like to be able to taste all the flavors in the food, not just have my mouth lit up by mixture of spices. It especially bothers me when people go putting hot sauce or something similar to fish like salmon which already has very mild taste.

The only thing I can think of that I always add something spicy on is split pea soup. Now that requires mustard, the hotter the better. There was time when my friend's family had only mild mustard and I probably put as much mustard in it as I put pea soup because it just didn't taste right before that.

I can only deal with mild curry and jalapeno.....the other day I found a pepper in a bag, and it struck me as one like a banana pepper. I cut it up and put it in noodles. I took a slice and ate it. I thought I was dying - it ended up being one of the hot habanero at like 300,000 scovilles..took 2 hours for me to feel my mouth again but the residual oils were on my fingertips - went on my nose, eye sockets, face..anywhere I touched. Hours later the palms and webs of my hands were red and burning from that stuff. Took 24+ hours to totally go away. So, NO, I do not enjoy SPICY stuff in that level..but jalapeno's and below are ok.

I loooooooooove spicy food! The spicier the better *mmmmmmm*

Though, 12 years ago when they found out I had only 1 kidney, the specialist told me to stay away from spicey foods, as it might effect my the kidney I have, but meh ... I usually forget I only have 1, I don't think about it every day, and certainly don't think about it when going to pick up Chinese food :D

Cayenne pepper is nice ^^ We don't use it on much of our food, because Belgian food just doesn't really require it.
But when making goulash / spaghetti / certain kind of rice, we do use it.

*runs in* Did someone say "spicy food"?!
:D

I LOVE spicy foods - we have a whole shelf in our spice cabinet dedicated to various hot spices...they're usually used in various chili recipes and whatnot, but we tend to be quite liberal with what we apply spices to here. Unfortunately, I've had to cut back on spicy foods for health reasons (waaaah, no more habaņero pizza for Dare), but I still add hot sauce to soup and/or spaghetti-os and cayenne to hot chocolate - those things just don't taste right to me otherwise.

Yes I do. I like to mix sirachia with taco blend cheese and eat it with tortilla chips. I usually have a cup of juice near by, because it's very spicy. I also put it in chili, but I also put sour cream and cheese in it, so it dulls it down. I also really like spicy chicken sandwiches. I also really like spicy ships. Usually the hottest salsa I eat is medium, but recently we've been making our own salsa with salsa kits from Fleet Farm (Which along with Target is one of my favorite stores.)

Eh, tetchy about hotstuff here. Which is odd because I was raised with it, my father was an exotic hot sauce & peppers junkie before he started having to watch his heart, he had his hook up at the local flee market & everything. I guess it's nature over nurture when it comes to spicy, though :eww:

I like it if it tastes like a flavor that's supposed to be there, and has a flavor besides "hot".

Spicy food is the best, though I don't think I'm very extreme with it :p There's pretty much nothing I won't add chili powder and/or lemon juice to, though. I love spicy ramen (actual ramen or the instant kind, it's all good), jalapeno pizza, hot wings...

I would like to know why buffalo sauce is called buffalo sauce.

Despite having access to the best Mexican-style spiced food in the US, I am actually a huge spice wimp. :C I can't stand anything that makes my tongue burn. A little spice/pepper is okay, but if it hurts me I don't take a second bite.

Okay, two things: 1) Another Texan??? Maybe we have discussed this before and I just have terrible memory (highly likely) but for some reason I thought most everyon here was from Europe!

and 2) Did you know that spicy hot chocolate was the traditional Mayan drink of choice? Learned that at the chocolate museum in Bruges this past summer. XD

Yeah, I'm Texan. I think there used to be a few of us around here, but the others haven't been around in a while.

Being Mexican I have lived all my life eating spicy foods  And I love it! There's a big variety of ways to prepare spicy sauces in Mexican cuisine. I have my own favourite which is done by blending jalapeņos with tomatillo (green tomato), it's great for tacos, and I quite like it on chicken :slurp:

Probably one of the spiciest things I have tried is the habanero chili, that stuff made my eyes tear, but it's still a great condiment as a sauce in veeery small portions. I actually like it like that.

Although when KS comes to visit, I try to watch what we eat when we go out, since she has some problems with spicy food. There are some foods and candies that foreigners can find pretty spicy, but have no effect on me at all :uhno:

Actually I think I've gotten more used to spicy food since visiting Mexico. :p Before I couldn't tolerate jalapeņos and now I don't mind them at all.

Otherwise I like to keep my spicy food to a minimum. Mild or moderate is enough for me, anything after that just sets my mouth on fire. 8O

It's always been interesting to me that we're all basically enjoying a pain reaction when we eat spicy food. We're such masochists.

Also, the salsa I had last night with dinner had jalapenos and habaneros in it. It was so so so so good.

!!

I really enjoy spicy food too, but my mouth seems to have become less tolerant of it as of late *sniff* xD My tongue especially starts hurting after a while, but I'll still eat the food because it tastes so good :munch:

As a Californian, I would like to contest the statement that Texas has the best Mexican food in the US ;)

(Then again, I didn't actually get to try any when I was in Texas... maybe you guys are right! Next summer when I'm in Austin, I am definitely going to seek some out :p)

I will say that Mexican food from New Mexico is the worst I've ever had. There are lots of authentic (not Tex-Mex) restaurants down here in SA. You should come down here. ;)

So, HK, what is the best hot sauce from Texas? One you can't find too many other places. Just curious. :thinks:

Next summer I might have have more time and money, so maybe I could take a day trip to SA and you could show me around. :D

I usually only like moderate spicyness in my food. For example I'll enjoy the occasional jalopeno with tortillas or the like.

Although as a challenge, a few weeks ago I did try a super hot chili that one of my friends had been growing through the summer, called Trinidad Moruga Scorpion chili. Apparently the hottest chili in the world. The piece I had was only quarter of the size of my pinky nail, but it had me unable to do anything but pant for approximately 15 minutes. Every orifice on my head was leaking, it was hard to breathe and I got a bit dizzy for a few minutes :D. So clearly, they don't call it the hottest pepper for nothing. Although I've seen some people go through it without too much problem. I'm guessing it must be something to do with genes and the receptors in your mouth.

Thanks Revo, now I have a new goal in life, to try that thing at least once in my life

On another note, I have found that cheese, as a base, is a very good supressor for chili acidness. So when you're all spiced up, have a slice of cheese and chew it :p I don't know if it works with any kind of cheese, but at least Gouda cheese does the job pretty well

Speaking of spicy food, does anyone ever been to Dixie's Barbeque in Washington? Kinda sad that the place is close over death of two founding owners but I really want to taste THE MAN sauce.

Yeah I do love to eat Spicy Foods, especially IF they balance the spices with other ingredient like sour taste soy sauce. And.... If I want to go further just add Sambal Belacan as my sauce.

As for foods that will ease the pain, anything fatty or oily should work pretty well, for example whole milk and cheese. The fat molecules dilute the burning capsaicin in the chili, because they are both hydrophobic (which is also why water doesn't help at all). Some proteins in milk called caseins also deter capsaicin, according to Wikipedia.

Got a bottle of ghost pepper sauce in the mail today along with a few other things. Almost scared to try it. :nalawet:

EDIT: I tried it. It is nice and spicy. It does burn more going down than it burns the mouth though. Had a spoon full.

I love spicy food! :D
I'll always get the spicy variant of whatever I'm eating.
Also, I've got 2 bottles of sriracha in my fridge right now :p
(And a Korean spicy sauce, and some bottles of hot sauce...)

The weirdest spicy thing I've eaten though, is this:
http://cdn6.bigcommerce.com/s-iem2p/products/10689/images/11542/CNDY-1007__53533.1426536783.1280.1280.jpg
It's pretty spicy, but it tasted so good! :p
I love watermelon and spicy things, so it's the perfect combination!

I've also had these:
http://paqui.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ghost.png
They (sometimes) sell them at Walmart.
I picked these up to share with a friend, but oh my god were these spicy!
I like to think I'm pretty resilient to spicy things, but these chips had me crying :haha:
The best part was that my friend was like "Are you okay? What's wrong?" and I just kept hiccuping and crying and making the weirdest, most inhumane, noises :p

They sell those at World Market. My sister keeps wanting to try them but then doesn't because they're kind of pricey for chips.
