Hey, do you like football (soccer)?
If you do, you must know today is the opening ceremony and the first match (Germany vs. Costa Rica).
So tell, are you going to watch it? Who do you think will win this year? Write any comment about the FIFA World Cup here!
See you :)

Brazil will win, they just take the pish when they're playing.

And no, I'm not going to watch it, I don't particularly like football, I follow my local footy team and it ends there. I hate the world cup, although I may watch a game if I think England'll get smashed

This means I'll be spending a lot more time on the internet then I already do

Since I don't like soccer, and Bart is obsessed by it ... so there's no chance I'll get the TV

That's exactly what I wanted to say, Brazil ftw!

I think I'm bound to watch it since we only have one TV up here and my dad's gonna watch ALL THE MATCHES -_- haha.

I'm interested in the results though.

As for the Germany - Costa Rica match...go costa rique?os! :p

I agree that Brazil will be the winner... but there's no way that Germany will lose to Costa Rica :p That would be quite awful haha.

And by the way, I don't support my own country either (talking about Argentina), I think it will lose in the 1st round :p

Neola
June 9th, 2006, 02:25 PM
Nah, I don't think Germany's gonna lose against Costa Rica...unfortunately :p

Anyways, my dad, my uncle and the rest of our male family members are totally hyper about the worldcup...they wear Germany tricots, paint their faces (yeah -_-) and sway those little Germany flags...god, that is sooo embarassing :woeisme:
Good thing they'll have their little opening party at my uncle's (who is brazilian btw  )
This (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/3904/dad6vw.jpg) was taken this morning...he looks MUCH WORSE NOW O_O
Maybe I'm gonna drop over at my uncle's place later on and take some new pics for ya O_o

I like football and will probably vaguley watch some of the matches, but I'm not a diehard fan or even *wow:* about it all. It should be used as a something that makes everyone of all nations come together, enjoy it and be happy!

Now those football idiots who beat up the opposing team supporters? Definition of losers. I'm sorry to say half of them are England fans too :woeisme: LOSERS!! YOUR TEAM DESERVE TO LOSE!!!

Peace to all players and people supporting them, sure, but if you want to try and kick some person because they just happen to support the opposite team.. do the opposite thing and give them a hug!!!

EDIT - how freaky is that.. its my 666th post!! Zira'll be happy! :growl: erm... maybe not..

Although watching grown men crying in the streets when we lose is somewhat amusing.

Lion Roar

There are three matches today:

-England vs Paraguay: Paraguay is not a bad team, but England is much better. I think England will win 3-1.
-Trinity&Tobago vs Sweeden: It will be a really easy match for Sweeden, who will win 4-0.
-Argentina vs Ivory Coast: Ivory Coast will surprise everyone by defeating Argentina 1-0 with a goal scored by Didier Drogba.

Well, those are my predictions :p
See ya

I find the excuses more amusing. Whenever England lose, they come up with excuses like "the ref cost us the game" and "teh other team cheated and we woz well robbed!" It's all good, apart from the football bit ;)

The football team a person supports if they do tempory supporting of one team in a match.. is the team from the plcae they would prefer to be. I fear you may be right. ;)
It's not that I don't think they're a good team or anything...it's just that I regard them as being the soccer/football equiv. of the Yankees. Most people I know root for them just because it's "the thing to do", just like Yankees fans do here...then again, if you're not a Yankees fan where I live, there's a good chance you'd get your *** kicked.

I didn't expect them either, that's why I were really surprised. The main reason that they scored that goals was that the Japanese players were too exhausted (they lost some opportunities to score more goals because of that) and well, Australia then with a lot of courage and luck (cause the Japanese goalkeeper was really bad at the first aussie goal), could draw the match. After that, they got really energetic and excited after scoring a goal that they just *destroyed* Japan by using their speed and taking advantage of their tireness and their lack of confidence (after being drawed only a few minutes before the match ended). So anyway, I saw a good team and I really think Australia can go into the next round (in second place, after Brazil of course ). Guus Hiddink really made a good job with this team.

In the other match, Czech Republic defeated USA, 3-0. USA demonstrated once again that it still has to improve a lot if they really want to win any soccer cup. And Czech Republic, well, it has a good team, though they didn't play very well either, I mean, they didn't play as well as in the 2004 Euro Cup, but I think they hadn't show all their potential yet (except from Thomas Rosicky, who scored two awesome goals, specially the first one!)

So well, this night at 21.00 (local time, GMT+1) will be held the match between Italy and Ghana. I think Italy will win easily, a 2-0 would be a probable result.

Neola
June 12th, 2006, 06:36 PM

I don?t have a technical explanation for that, but in all other cups brazil winned, it got to enter it with dificulties (like being the last one in the eliminatory score) this time they entred very easily, so , i just have this predictement that the favouritism, will make a heavy in their shoulders then they will lose good oportunities to win a match

I agree that Brazil didn't play well but, you know, the other countries haven't played really well either, first match is always very tough. And appart from that, Brazil has a great quality players, even if the team isn't playing well, they may score a goal at any moment (like today Kaka did). So I still think Brazil will win, and I'm looking forward to seeing the next match, I'm sure they will play better.

Is quite interesting we register this: the official tv from fifa did not showed the croatian fan in the field (in that moment they only showed the players stoped in the field), only the tvs stations that had their own cameras showed this.

I think fifa should not done this, hidding one of its security fails...

The interesting was that croatian fan waiving with the hands , was like saing "i got pas from your security, no one will come here and arrest me?"

Yes, that security men are stupid, I mean, there is one of them every a few metres and they couldn't stop him before he entered the field? C'mon, they'd better take their job seriously, cause some day may happen something worse.

Anyway, there have been two matches today, and well, Spain defeated Ukraine for 4-0, and well, I could only see a few minutes of the match (when they score the first two goals) at university, and couldn't see anymore cause I had an exam. :grrr: Well, as far as I saw, they played very well. Well, England finally defeated Trinity & Tobago. They didn't actually play well, they had lack of creativity during all the match. Moreover, T&T was too defensive so it was tough to score, but finally in they scored two goals in the last 10 minutes. I liked specially the Gerrard one, he's a great quality player.

I'm soooo glad I'm not the only one! :D The football is driving me mad. I'm sick of it. I'm also glad that I don't live with my dad anymore, he has a slight hearing problem he won't admit to - and every time England score (lol) the volume goes up. Hmm well, today started the second round. In the first match, Germany defeated Sweden for 2-0, in a really easy match, easier than anyone would expect. Also Swedish player Henrik Larsson missed a penalty kick... It was too bad, cause it was his last match at the Swedish National Team, and a player like him would have deserved better luck at this match. :(
In the second match, Argentina defeated Mexico for 2-1, it was a very tough match, Argentina didn't play well and I was really nervous, but I finally survived to the match (didn't die of a heart attack during it) and I have to say that if we play like that, we will loose to Germany in our next match :hmm:

Not necessarily, Brazil are overrated in my eyes. Ok, they have a very talented squad, but it's not the team on paper, it's the team on the pitch that counts. And if the Brazilians get complacent about all the hype they're getting, then they'll be over confident and then get boshed by whoever is playing them.

And FWIW, since England made it to the knockout stages, I'm pinning colours to the mast and supporting England. We've got to win something sometime. Obviously I'm not getting my hopes up or anything since it's England, but whoever they're playing next, I hope England can get a win.

Lion Roar
June 27th, 2006, 09:25 PM
Yes Brazil won today. They showed that without making a "Jogo bonito", they have very talentous players that are very effective when they have the chance to score a goal. But what I didn't like about Brazil was their defenders, they were really bad and gave a lot of space to the Ghana players, who didn't score 'cause they are bad at shooting. I think that Brazil should improve their defense for the next match, 'cause France has very dangerous players, as they showed tonight, when they eliminated Spain.
Talking about the other matches, I have seen a strong Germany (a bit slowly in defense though), a irregular Argentina, a "lazy" and very defensive Italy, a weak Ucrania (who reached the quarterfinals just because Switzerland missed all the penalty kicks), England can play better, Portugal was good but will miss some important players for the next match... I don't know, but I think that Brazil will have to improve a lot if it wants to win the World Cup; however, none of the other teams are playing well on every match, they're being irregular... And the most regular one, at the moment, is Germany. Because of that, and because they play at home, they may be the champions... Anyway, in football, anything can happen, we never know.

Not all the Argentinians are like that Tiikeri, but well. And I don't think they deserved to loose either, I think Germany and Argentina played more or less at the same level, and they won in the penalties (where everything can happen). Moreover, the referee was bad (like in the Brazil-Ghana match), but anyway, I'm not blaming anyone for the *expected* defeat.

BTW, I think that the final will be Germany-Brazil, and the South Americans will win.

STL, the decision of making Carragher to retake the penalty was fair, cause the previous one was kicked before the referee ordered to do it, and so he had to take it again.

BTW, Brazil loose too :O, that's really surprising, cause well, they haven't been playing very well lately, but no one thought they would loose in quarterfinals. This World Cup is kinda strange, really haha, so I won't do any prediction, cause I think everyone have chances of winning it.

That's not the referee's fault.

As a player, you *must* know, that you need to wait for the whistle.
There's just no discussion possible about that, it's the way it is, and he should have known that.

nathalie
July 2nd, 2006, 08:29 AM
You can turn it around in any possible way you like, and you'll still get the same result "he should have waited for the whistle".

Weather he whistles 1 second after the player is ready, or 10 seconds.
That's just how it is, and every player should/must know that.

And I personally didn't think the referee waited too long with him, like you are saying. But hey, that's just me, hehe.

If you wanna argue about referee's, watch the last game The Netherlands played, then you'll have something to blame on the ref, haha. I've never seen so many yellow and red cards pop up in 1 game o_O

Can't really say anything about good sportsmanship when thinking about this World Cup anyway...overall, I think this is one of the dirtiest, most unsportsmanlike World Cups I've ever seen. The amount of cards was ludicrous.
