View Full Version : Lion King Sightings!

The Lion King has become a part of culture, let's face it. Because of that, TLK pops up on TV, in movies, books, and various other places. This thread is the place to share those sightings.

First TLK sighting of this thread! :cheese:

This is what Leor and I spotted today in the 99p store:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/simbaspride/c85435e0-d1e4-423d-91f6-80235503cb4f.jpg

We both agreed that it looks somewhat like it's been inspired from this (http://images.quizfarm.com/1107903551simba.jpg) picture of Simba. At least that's what the pose suggests. :p If it weren't for Leor, I wouldn't have even spotted it. He has a good eye for detail. ;)

I'm double posting.

They've got Geno Segers (a former TLKoB Mufasa) saying "You're the one true king!" in the promo for the new Pair of Kings (Which he's on also) episode this week. I don't know, it made me laugh.

And also, this is a commercial airing during Dinosaur which features TWO former original TLKoB cast members. :D Sam Wright and Max Casella.

It's a TLKoB smorgasbord!

Lol, I've seen so many Lion King sightings that I can't even remember them all. :idiot:

I remember a few from the Simpsons though..

2 from the episode when they went to Africa, at one point you can see Pride Rock in the background. ^^ And another where you can see the animals walking in the sunrise/sunset.

http://www.mylionking.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2265 & http://www.mylionking.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2266

And another one from another episode..

Homer: "Armada? What's armada?"
Moe: "Nothing, what's armada with you?"

Lol. ^^

Some cool sightings there :D

I was in Target the other day looking at the books, and there was one that was about a cat and his life indoors. One of those inspirational books, with a picture on every page about this cat's life indoors. There was one page that said how domestic cats (apart from lions and tigers) are the only cats that can hold their tails upright while walking then underneath in parenthesis it said "suck on that, Simba".

Was watching QVC earlier and they were selling things inspired by the Smithsonian collection. One guy was talking about the historical objects in one of the museums (I forget which one, there's 19 ) and the Broadway Simba mask was in the background.

Edit: I'm listening to The Book of Mormon cast recording and in this song, they're finding out where they're going on their mission. One kid gets Uganda and he's all "What's that?" They tell him "Africa" and he goes, "Oh boy! Like Lion King!"

Edit 2: Another one. The villagers are singing about their saying for when things get bad. One of the missionaries goes "Does it mean no worries for the rest of our days?" The saying means something really nasty and blasphemous.

cleargreenwater

Awww, sad :-( Wow though, 28 and how many animals zoo or pet are lucky enough to kick in their sleep? And with such an illustrious obit. Good show, Brownie! May you enjoy an endless zebra buffet in the sky!

Really as terribly stylized as the TLK hyenas are, the animation as far as locomotion goes isn't really all that off, there's some mannerisms they work into the characters pretty well.

The "the oldest-known hyena in a U.S. zoo" designation does make me wonder though, I've never seen a verified 28 year old hyena to compare but there was one at this rural "zoo" near a friend of mine once that I'm pretty sure could've been a contender. Their spots fade some with age and this thing was almost a total washed-out blank, mysteriously disappeared a month or two later, too :P

(On a completely different note, how DO YOU FIND all these news things? I am always so amazed!)

Here the first letter of the number plate is a standard which you can identify the state that the car were registred (mine is K) so it would be impossible me to do same thing here.

I don't know If anyone saw this before: in the song of the end of the movie hotel Transylvania, tlk is recalled.

A little story about How Ave Verum Corpus made connection with To Die For.

Dear AC,

I just got off the phone with my good friend Hans Zimmer, composer of Disney's The Lion King. After a pleasant talk about nothing in particular, you know, about that time with the guy in the predicament at that place--and I'll never forget it, hilarious--HZ's tone suddenly changed.

"You know what, Appleton? Sometimes I feel under-appreciated as a composer. Sure I've done alright--four Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, one Academy Award, and all. Gladiator was okay, Pirates of the Carribbean was likeable enough, Dark Knight had some catchy chords, and Inception was...well, let's just say our minds were all blown on more than one count. But I have one great wish."

"What's that?" I asked.

"I want to be hailed as a true German genius. I went to a lot of effort to cleverly and beautifully insert a theme from Mozart's 'Ave Verum Corpus' into the piece 'To Die' in The Lion King, but nobody seems to have noticed. Uncultured swine," he moaned.

"Sorry, what? I didn't catch that last part. Wait, Mozart in The Lion King? I didn't notice any Mozart. Maybe my hearing was shot after having to listen to Jonathon Taylor Thomas sing at the very beginning. Where's the Mozart at?" I queried.

Zimmer pulled out a score of "Ave Verum Corpus."

"For some reason, my only recording of 'To Die' is in this Finnish release of the movie. At 0:40 on the clock, follow along with the Mozart score, picking up at 'praegustatum' at bar 33 in the tenor and bass parts."

I did what he asked, and, sure enough, there it was, nearly note for note.

"HEAR THAT? HEAR THAT?" Zimmer shouted excitedly.

"Loud and clear Hans," I replied.

"If only more people would hear. I should have kept it in the original key instead of transposing it two half-steps up. Then the masses would've picked up on it for sure."

"Oh, right. That'd do it," I thought to myself.

Bam. Question answered. Except that none of that exchange is actually true. I'm not actually close friends with Mr. Zimmer. Nor do I know anyone who is. A little unfair a question, to ask about the mind of a musical celebrity. How should I know? I could ask him, but somehow I think it would take a while to get a personal audience with the Hans Zimmer. While internet theories abound, there is no report of Zimmer ever saying that the similarity between the two pieces was intentional. However, it may very well have been, as it fits the scene rather well, with the entrance of death and the like. The hymn is about the death of Christ.

--Appleton

This isn't really an actual sighting since you'd expect to see TLK things in a kiosk selling TLK merchandise at Disney World, but this is a little detail my sister noticed while I was purchasing some stuff (*cough*Pumbaa pillow pet*cough*). A little story about How Ave Verum Corpus made connection with To Die For.

It is extremely similar, would surely have to be intentional I would think. Then again, perhaps he composed it having heard Ave Verum Corpus in the past, but it's one of those things that you've forgotten and you don't even realise you're imitating in in something original.

Very interesting.

I realized that the whole article is satire made by someone.

At least he mention how Ave Verum Corpus made on Mufasa Died on the article.

Will they sell (or be) Gramophone/Vinyl for the soundtrack? Seems everyone go back to basic at the moment.

Assuming you're talking about the movie soundtrack, it's still available online, as of this post:

If you mean the Festival of the Lion King soundtrack, I think that's only available on CD.

Anyway Thanks Vidan for giving me that link, I might buy that someday.

There is a nice, but more general interview with Andreas Deja (animator of Scar) at the Disney blog:
http://blogs.disney.com/insider/2014/09/10/bringing-the-90s-to-life-an-interview-with-animator-andreas-deja/
But there are still a few drops about TLK, e.g.

...At one time we even had a few real lions brought to the studio in order to study them up close. Some of us had the chance to touch a big lion’s mane… I cautiously used my non-drawing left hand, just in case.

On the Scar subject. The free newspaper i get that's handed out for free for train Commuters, they interview a celebrity every day. And they interviewed Jeremy Irons :D.

It was mainly about the DVD release of "Night train to Lisbon" but he mentioned alot about what he does in his spare time etc and they also mentioned his voice acting as Scar in Lion king . Was a good read to get to know more about what other stuff he does =3. I left the paper at work but when i get it back home i will scan it so people can read if you want ^^

Just like I didn't expect to find a link between Joss Whedon and TLK 2: Simba's Pride. He wrote the lyrics for My Lullaby O.o

Some site didn't give us his specific writing on Simba's Pride. ;) but I'm glad you found it though. Nice find Leor.

I was a big Bad Boy fan back in 95 and was surprised that Mark Mancina (Bad boy composer) was the musical arranger for TLK, but that was a long time ago. I remember that back in 2003 so here's a little trivia for you all.

Two things that aren't particularly amazing.

The first is that while in Big W yesterday I thought the distorted bass sounds I could hear from a distant tv sounded familiar. Turns out they were playing TLK in store (on a TV with crappy sound) and it was the fight scene between Scar and Simba :D

Then yesterday evening while driving, I happened to be following someone towing a boat, the name of the boat was Sea Simba :D

Ok, so not really a sightseeing, but apparently there's a new militia group being formed in order to "protect" Donald Trump's rallies against protesters.
The name this group chose to call themselves? well what do you know... it's the 'Lion's Guard' :woe:

News about them are already spamming the Lion Guard tag on Tumblr. This is seriously the most bizarre/unsettling piece of news I've heard today, for if there weren't enough reasons to dislike Trump and his supporters, now they're messing with our fandom :kiongrumpy:
