Diferences in the dvd releases (TLK2)

Since Brazil was the chossen to receive all lion king dvds frist that any other place in the world, in this case, lion king 2 special edition, were released here 2 months before be released in united states, then, i made a report for the site animated news talking about the changes and retouches the movie have suffered.

The edition (meaning: the light cuts)

The limited edition dvd have 15 seconds more of movie than the special edition version, mainly because some very light cut were made, one example is in this scene after the song upendi, perceive that the scene where kovu and kiara arrive in pride rock simply were edited from the limited edition of the movie

Now, in the special edition this scene simply dont exits! it were edited

The changes

Now for one of my "favorites" was the change of the scene where kiara and kovu are fleeng from the crocodiles in the begining of the movie, i thought the frist version 100x better that for the one they changed

Of course there very other minor changes during the entire movie.
(Even the musice they changed in the credits, in the LE was tinaturner and wes playing he live in you and upendi, in the special is "love will find a way")

I need to admit, im totally against these changes and retouches... you re master a film, give it a better image and sound are OK, but change it? no this i really don?t agree

There are some drawing changes in TLK 1 aswell, for example with "I just can't wait to be king", where birds are sitting in crocodiles mouths.

6 changes to be precisely

- The intro logo from walt disney
- The opening scene of sun
- That scene of crocodiles you said
- The cascate in the begining of "can you feel the love tonight"
- I forgot the other two :-P

hehe thats cool... But actually TLK 2 Special edition was also relised in Europe 2 months before in US too, like around 15th June or so.

yep, in the case of tlk 2 it really was released in same day as here, but for tlk platinum no, it was released here in 29 of september of 2003 9becaiuse here also we celebrate the day of childres at 12 of octuber, so it was also a marketing strategy release it before here to sell more units before the children day

Well, most stores don't mind the Disney release date.

For a marketing stunt, TLK 1 was alread in stores (the small stores) as from October the 5th or so, just to get money out of it.

And then October 15th, the bigger stores putted them in.

wow, here they only reduce the price, at least 6 months after the release.

Yeah, here too, but sometimes, when a huge seller like that is out, they have this 1 day, you can get a discount.

Very luck of yours, here the price seems to be "carteillized" because all stores have same price (R$49,90 - 20 Dolars ) after few time they drop to R$29,90

Instead of making a whole new thread, may I ask a question here? Someone on Amazon.com said that someone different is singing Circle of Life in the opening scene of TLK 1, Special Ed.. Is this true? And someone said that in the Morning report scene of the Special Edition (without the new song), when Muffy says, "very good" it was actually "that was very good" in the theater release...

Hmm, I do think they did some things a little different, just because of that (icky) song. So that Zazu's singing would come out better? Don't know.

About the Circle of Life song, must be a twin then or something because I can't hear any difference in that.

The fire in end of Special Edition DVD of TLK was also changed -enhanced, actually. And I believe they edited the scene with the milkweed spelling out "SFX" because too many people thought they saw an "E" instead of an "F" in it.. I'm not positive about the milkweed though, but I know they enhanced the fire. It looked good enhanced.

I don't think they changed the dialogue from the original theatrical release, but someone could probably find the unaltered, original script. Technically, if someone owns the original VHS of TLK, they could check that (I don't remember that being changed from the original Theatrical release, except to format it for your TV, which just crops the image.)

I would check, but my VHS is in America in the US format, so even if I had it here, I couldn't watch it on the Video Players here without getting a special type of Video Player that can play both PAL and the US format.

I think they made the milk weed green so it'd be less noticable.

For Circle of Life, maybe they meant in TLK 1.5? That was different.

Marijke not sure it it's just DVD's or videos too but if you play an American film on a Europian system. It may play but in black and white.

(I'd test the video player but ours is NTSC as well as PAL but likes to eat tapes.)

I got both versions, VHS from 1995 + DVD from 2003, if my boyfriend wasn't hooked on the TV right now, I could have look at it.

Well, i already tried the inverse (play a PAL tape in a PAL-M/NTSC vcr and the result was: good sound, but NO image. )

Ah, one of the scenes from the 6 i told, one is really that of the SFX issue, im not quite sure for the another
