Hello all, for those that don't know, yesterday I drove down to Portland, Oregon from Seattle with fellow Lea member Starlioness and picked up Sharifu (who took a bus from Medford, Oregon) to see TLKOB at the Keller Auditorium!

It was the first time for both me and starlioness to meet Sharifu, and it was also the first time for star to see TLKOB! We had a lot of fun, it was a very memorable trip and worth every minute of the long 6 hour driving day. And yes, Sharifu is even more nice and friendly in person than she is on the boards. :cheese: It was great to be able to spend time with her.

We went to the Oregon Zoo before the show, and managed to take some pics there. I didn't get to take any around or inside the theatre, because it was so crowded, but when I go next week with my family and friends I'll try to take more pics of the theatre. Enjoy!

We spent a lot of time exploring the "African" part of the zoo, here is Audra in front of the zebra exhibit

All that walking made Audra thirsty! :thirsty: I didn't know lions drank Coke too...

This was our view of the stage from our seats in the Auditorium, not too bad for $25 seats ($35 after ticketmaster, building, and convenience fees)

It was a great experience and I really hope we get to do it again sometime down the road. I took a bunch more pics of animals at the zoo, and I'll post those later today.

Thanks a lot for sharing these pics with us, Tim. Looks like you, starlioness and Fu all had a great time.

Lookin' all great as usual.

And haha, that pink cobra looks so fluffy and cuddly. I think I used to have something similar to that. Not quite sure where it's gone though.

The Auditorium looks cool. I'd like to experience that sometime and of course, see TLKoB for myself. ^^

Lookin' forward to more pics from you guys. ;)

Yay! Looks like y'all had fun. Is anyone in the San Antonio area going to the show next year? I've set aside a rather large sum in my bank account to go as many times as possible. ;) It'd be awesome to meet some of you there. :)

Lol, that's really funny. I'm actually by far the tallest person in my family, I'm 6' (182cm) exactly, my mom was 5'3 and my dad is 5'6 and my sister is really short like 5'0 or 5'1... so I'm considering myself lucky!

Talking about heights, most of my family are around the same height to be honest. My mum is around 5 ft 1, my dad is around 5 ft 2 and my sis is around 5 ft 3. I'm a little taller than my dad.

My family is short. :woeisme:

Anyways, talking about that pic with Fu beside the vending machine, a lot of walking can make you very thirsty. I get thirsty very often after doing that. I usually get something out of the vending machine when that happens too. ;)

Cool! At least in those pictures I don't look too bad, I usually don't like my pics. :p You have a nice camera though! I should get one like that someday... :cheese:

And you?re friendly and nice too Tim! Shawna?s fun too, she liked talking to me about my favorite TV show, Gargoyles! Gee, thanks for putting bunny ears on me Shawna... Everyone seems to like to do that to me. (Even though I knew she was doing it...) XD

The Oregon Zoo was really pretty I liked it a lot! I even think it's prettier then the San Francisco Zoo. Too bad the Oregon Zoo didn't have any lions! But they had tigers! But it's a really nice zoo and it's nicely laid out with lots of animals.

For dinner when went to a mall to eat and they had a Disney store there! I thought it was a pretty neat Disney store. They even had some statues of cubby Simba, Zazu and Rafiki. (And I really liked them they looked perfect) :p Tim when you go to Portland next week, and if you go to that mall, you should take a pic of that! :cheese: (Only if you want to of course) ;)

Those seats were actually really good I thought and I was surprised how cheap they were! I thought those seats were much better then the first time I saw the show in San Francisco California and it was a lot cheaper too! Like half the price! The performance was great too! And this was my first time going to Portland, I always wanted to see what it was like. And it's a big neat city and I liked it!

It was so worth it to go, even though I paid a lot of money for the bus ticket and the trip for me to Portland was twice as long as Tim and Shawna's. (Because Medford is farther away from Portland then Seattle, plus those buses are sooo slow) :p But it was totally worth it, I'm not complaining at all! I slept most of the time on the bus anyways. But I had so much fun! Thanks again Tim for planning all this. If it weren't for you, I would of never saw TLKoB in Portland, and it was you who got cheap tickets (great ones at that), and even found out the password to get the tickets before the public! And thanks for bringing Shawna and thanks Shawna for coming!

Oh you're very welcome Audra! I saw this as kind of a once in a lifetime experience for all of us, who knows if we're going to be able to do this again, and I'm glad everything worked out fine.

And I did totally forget to mention the mall part, that Disney store was cool! I wish they had more TLK plushes but oh well. I should have definitely brought my camera, I will next time.

Oh here's another statistic, I spent exactly as much on GAS as you did on your bus ticket! I filled up for $35 before I left, and filled up another $36 when we were in Portland for a total of $71, and I'm just about empty now back in Seattle. And your bus ticket costed $71!

And if anyone wants to try to crack the password for advance tickets on Ticketmaster when TLKOB comes to your city (usually only offered to theatre subscribers) I'd recommend going down the list of TLK characters. Try Mufasa Simba first then the side characters like Timon Pumbaa, Sarabi, etc. you'll eventually guess it right! Also look on messageboards for clues. This is virtually the only way to guarantee yourself really good seats before they're available to the public. The password for the San jose run is Pumbaa, same as Portland.

(now I hope a ticketmaster rep doesn't come to my house and shoot me!)

Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and hopefully we can see each other again not too far in the future.

:hugs:

Ahh you told them! :gasp:

 Just kidding, I think the only Lea Member who also lives in San Jose is Muruwa. (And she's my friend in real life way before I joined Lea) I know she wants to see TLKoB though so I'll try to plan with her soon to go see it. :D I can't really think of any other Lea members that also lives near the Bay Area, except for Eric (Woes) and he's already planning to go to it too. (At least he wants to) But I better plan soon. I know how quick these tickets go. Plus I'll ask some of my friends from school and maybe some of my family.

Here are some pics of animals from the Oregon Zoo:

From the African bird exhibit, this unique bird had a beak that looked like a hornbill and black feathers.

The best pic I took IMO, The zebra was drinking from the pool and he looked up right as I snapped the picture!

Another one of our striped horse friends

I too was a little disappointed at the lack of big cats at the zoo but overall it was laid out very nicely in sections with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. And we were lucky to go on the $2 admission tuesdays, which actually is only the SECOND Tuesday of every month! It was our lucky day I guess!

Haha yeah... I was pretty thirsty. I was just going to wait until I found a water fountain so I can get a free drink, but I had no idea when and where I would find one, plus that vending machine was near us when we were walking so I got a drink anyways. :p And I ended up using it as a drink for dinner too. I thought the vending machine looked pretty cool with the lions on it.

Nice pictures of the animals at the zoo Tim! You really do have a nice camera!

Oh wow! Where did you find that out? We're really lucky then! It was good for me because I owe my mom a lot of money already. :p

Oh btw, when you go to Portland again, make sure to go to the Greyhound Bus Station again earlier in the day so you can buy those TLK snow globes if you want one (or more then one). :p (Yes the bus station's gift shop has TLK snow globes for sale! I was quite surprised)

I checked on the Oregon Zoo website http://www.oregonzoo.com for the admission stuff... I thought it was $2 every Tuesday, so we won't get that good price next week... :grrr:

Yeah I'm sure I can find time to stop by the Bus station again, I would really like one of those snowglobes. Those are so hard to find nowadays even on Ebay... and at a bus station??? Coolness!

My camera is actually pretty old, I got it 2 Christmases ago I think it's only 2.0 megapixels but I like it because it's easy to use. Nowadays people have these 4 and 5 MP and 12x digital/optical zoom deluxe everything and I don't need that, I'm no professional. Just something that can point and shoot and zoom a little bit.

Cameras like mine can be found for under $100 online if you shop around.

Used water fountains at school before. Don't use them much anymore though since we have vending machines at our school. However, none of them have pretty pictures like that on it.

Anyway, w00t, more pics! :cheese: Like to see what the Timon's are doing.

But I'm sure you guys will find something to do. I know you'll have fun! Seeing TLKoB again is always great... :cheese:

Yeah! I couldn't believe it! I was going to get two seats for me and my friend (Muruwa), but I ended up getting four because I remember Eric wanted to go with me, so I called him and then he asked me if I could get four tickets so he could bring his friend. If I did get two seats, I could have gotten the first row!!! (Although it would have been all the way to the side. Seats 31 and 39.) Click this link to see the seating chart: http://www.amtsj.org/tickets/cpa_seating_cht.html

Anyways the seats I got are row 2 seats 25, 27, 29 and 31. Not bad huh?! :cheese: I couldn't get the center but hey, I think this is the closest I'll ever get the stage! Plus I wanted to get really good seats because I think this might be the last time I see it, or the last time I see it for a while. I got them for Friday night, even though it's more expensive, because I know my friend wanted to go and it would be hard for her to make it on weekdays. I don't want her to miss her chance to see it. She wanted to see it when she was in San Francisco, but she missed that chance. The tickets were $83.50 each after fees, but I think it's well worth it, for the second row!

The first time I saw the show, in San Francisco California, I saw it on the mezzanine level. I think the third row. (I can't check my ticket right now, it's at my house in California and I'm at my mom's right now in Oregon) Anyways, at that time I was new to buying tickets for a Broadway show, I never even saw a Broadway show before that. My mom said that I would probably like that level where the seats were and it was cheaper then Orchestra. (Of course) So my mom called Ticket Master, and my mom asked them if the three seats together, and if they were near the center and the lady on the phone said yes. So here comes the day to see the show, over a month later, and the seats are too the far right. All the way to the right! :grrr: How could that lady say this was close to the center?! It was as far as you could get from the center! Anyways I was disappointed with that, as the tickets cost a lot I thought for what they were. Plus I will never see TLKoB again unless it's in the Orchestra level. It's worth it, just to pay the extra money to see it in the Orchestra level. The best seats I ever saw the show in so far, was in Sacramento California with STM. ^_^ It was 8 rows from the stage, dead center! Thanks to my STMy. :p He spent a lot of money on those tickets on Ebay! And he only asked me to pay $30 for it. And of course I saw the show in Portland Oregon with Tim and Shawna and the seats were quite good I thought actually. ;)

Sure enough, we did go back to Lloyd Center mall and I took the pics. The same lady was working there and even recognized me from last week! I bought that simba plush and also an adorable Koda plush from Brother bear (the first BB plush I've bought, it's very cute)

A couple of absolutely beautiful lorikeet birds from the exhibit

That's it! Oh one more thing - the second time I went to portland I saw this young woman standing in line at the gift counter and she had the most incredible Lion King tattoo on her arm! It looked like a whole jungle scene with cub simba and vines and colorful flowers, and at the top of her arm near the shoulder there was the Ghost of Mufasa in the clouds... just looking at that made me want a tattoo! I didn't have my camera with me at the time unfortunately so i couldn't ask her if I could take a picture of it.

Wow Tim! That's so awesome you took those pics of TLK statues in the Disney store! So you did end up buying one of those Simba plushies. ;) It's so cool that you got a Koda plushie too.

How did you get pics out in front of the theater? Did you do that early in the day? (So it wasn't crowded?)

Aww the Lorikeets! I did notice the "Lorikeet Landing" in the zoo when we went, I remember feeding the Lorikeets when I went to the San Francisco Zoo once. It was fun, I just love birds! (I'm a bird lover) ;)

Anyways great pics of animals at the zoo, I especially love the up close pics of the Lorikeets, such beautiful birds!

That's really awesome about that girl with TLK tattoo, I would of loved to see that. Too bad you didn't have your camera with you.

How many people went with you to see TLKoB this time? That's great you got to see it again so soon.

I'm also going through TLKoB withdrawal. :haha: I have to wait until Feburary 24! :gasp:

Oh well, at least I'm seeing it again... :D

February 24th??? NO WAY!!! That's my birthday! What are the chances of that?

I got those pics in front of the theatre actually after the show let out, it was really crowded but we made everybody walk around us!

I did get that Simba plush we were looking at in the Disney store, I think it looks a little odd but it's still cute, and the Koda plush is awesome! It's really soft and made with high-quality material and it's adorable.

This time I went with my two friends Cynthia and Kat and my Aunt Carrie and her boyfriend Mitch (they're all in the pictures)

There is an interesting story about my aunt... I don't know if you all remember but I was scammed on Ebay last Winter when I bought four tickets to TLKOB in Seattle for over $400 (I paid over double the list price)

Anyway the tickets never came, and I resorted to printing the tickets from the PICTURE on Ebay and just hoping for the best. So out of all the people I invited my Aunt was the only one willing to still go down to the theatre with me to see if they'd let us in.

Unbelievably, although the computer-printed tickets did not scan, they still let us in! We were so happy, until we got to our seats. We were soon surrounded by theatre ushers and security as they demanded to see the tickets. Problem was that a group had just checked in with the REAL tickets that matched the ones we had printed off the computer, and sure enough, the buyer of those tickets admitted he had purchased them from Ebay.

What the scam artist did was make a copy of the picture of the tickets from someone else's Ebay auction, and tried to resell the tickets as if they were his own.

So only minutes before showtime My sister, my aunt and I we were kicked out of the theatre.

I got really sad and depressed about what happened on the way back home, and although I told her not to, my Aunt insisted that she reimbursed me for part of the $400 I lost in the scam. Only months before that I had over $2,000 stolen from me by a dishonest business partner, and I couldn't believe something like this was happening again.

Carrie's display of kindness just moved me to tears, and I made a promise that the next opportunity I had to see TLKOB I would buy my aunt a ticket and it was finally able to happen in Portland 10 months later, and the seats were 100 times better anyways so it all worked out okay in the end.

Anyway, that's SO awesome you're going to see TLKOB again so soon Sharifu, and on my birthday no less! So haha I think we'll be tied for the most times seeing it now, with 5 each, that's a lot!

:gasp:

But I did madke a promise to myself that if I lose 20 pounds, I will fly myself to New York City to try out for the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire and, perhaps more importantly, see TLKOB actually on Broadway again. It's probably not ever coming to the Pacific Northwest again, so this is what I'm gonna have to do!

I do remember that story about what happened when you bought those tickets on Ebay. That's really awful. :( But it's great that this worked out for you seeing the show in Portland. You have such a postitive attitude! :)

Oh no way, you've since it more then me. ;) A lot of people, even my mom and sister thought I have seen it more then I really have. So far I have seen it three times. So after San Jose it will be four times. When I go to Europe with STM next summer, I was thinking *maybe* we can go to England too. If we can I thought it would be cool if I could see TLKoB in London too. Btw, that's cool I'll be seeing the show on your birthday. :p Did you know when we saw the show it was Nephilim's birthday? ;)

My mom and sister don't understand why I want to see TLKoB so much... I don't like it when my mom says that I'm spending so much money on it... (And I know that) XD I know that my friend (Muruwa) wanted to see TLKoB, she missed the chance to see it in San Francisco. And now it will be in San Jose, the very city we live in. I had to get a ticket for her. If her parents would ever get her a ticket, I think her parents would buy the ticket when the show would be all sold out, and I'm sure it will be within a month or two. And they wouldn't want her to go by herself... I just think she would miss her chance if she didn't see it with me and if I didn't get the tickets now. (And you?re right, who knows if TLKoB will play in Pacific Northwest again) She didn't want to sit by herself, and I knew she didn't want to pay as much for her ticket as much as the tickets I wanted to get cost. So I told her I was willing to pay for the rest of it, as a Christmas and birthday present. (She said a long time ago way before I bought the tickets that she was willing to pay $50) I didn't tell my mom that, because she just wouldn't understand. XD She doesn't understand really why I 've seen it so many times as I have. But this will be great I can't wait to see it with my friends, and especially Muruwa since it will be her first time seeing it. And I can't wait to be so close to the stage! Btw, are you seeing it again in Portland? I think I remember you saying you were seeing it three times in Portland, but I might be mistaken.

Oh, and did you get a TLK snow globe at the Greyhound Bus Station? :gasp: :p

Nope, sadly that was the last time I'm going to see TLKOB... for a while. I actually have one more batch of two tickets but I'm going to re-sell them as I had planned to earlier (they're ORCH D row L, only 12 rows back).

As much as I want to go again especially for the good seats, I think I need to give some others the opportunity to experience the wonders of TLKOB... as I was walking around Portland in the zoo and in the mall with my TLKOB shirt i can't even count the number of people that asked me about it and told me how many great things they had heard about it and how badly they wanted to see it but weren't able to get tix.

My Portland tickets are currently on sale at stubhub.com under the "October 18th" date, and the only way I will go see it again is if no one buys them, and that will be highly unlikely. I will also have to miss school. Another factor in my decision is that my car was just declared a total loss today :( so I'm really going to use that extra money to try find a new car. (affordable used car would be a better description) And that means I'll have to buy new TLK decals for it too...

And yes, I did forget to factor in that I saw it twice in Portland, so I'm still one ahead of you after San jose ;)

But who's counting... I tell everyone that I'd see the show every week if I could afford it.

And darn it, I wasn't able to stop at Greyhound station... I had an opportunity to on the way to the theatre but we were running quite late and I had no idea where the theatre was (it's actualy only a couple miles past the bus station!) and luckily after a couple wrong turns we made it on time!

As for the positive attitude, although a lot of really bad stuff has happened to me recently, there's no reason to worry or get angry at anyone or anything. Quite a few good things have also happened in that time frame, and I'm a believer that the breaks we get in life will all even out in the long run, and that there are always others in the world worse off than you, especially with all the hurricanes and devastation today. And I'm sure a lot of people on Lea have been through worse than me as well from reading some of the posts. Being Christian, I just pretty much let God take care of everything.

I also believe there's a reason for everything that happens in this life... not saying God willed my accident to happen, but going through an ordeal like this has made me a stronger person, and shown me who my true friends are that can help me in a time of need.

And your story reminds me a lot about my family and friends, they can't believe I've seen the show 5 times, and they won't understand until they see it themselves. (heh, they still wouldn't understand) anyway I hope you do get to see it in London because that is something I ALMOST got to do on my trip but it didn't quite work out.

Oh, what about the other person that was going to see it with you in Portland in October? (You got two tickets)

That's really nice of you to think of others who want to see the show too. :) (Dang it I still want to get a TLKoB shirt of my own! I hope that there will be a special San Jose one) :p And it's a good idea to use the money towards a car.

 I've also said I would see the show really often if it was always playing near me, and the tickets were cheaper. XD

I think a lot like you do on certain situations. When things are bad I also always think things could be worse and there are people in this world who have it worse off then I do.

Well heh about my mom and sister, they actually saw TLKoB with me the first time I saw it, and it was their first (and only) time. They still don't get it. I don't know, they just can't relate. :p Even though they did like the show, I don't think they would want to see it again unless someone gave them free tickets. XD I even paid for my sister to go because I wanted her to go with me, then days before the show she said, "Do I have to go?" You had no idea how mad that made me... Since I paid for her ticket! I felt like I could of actually taken someone who wanted to go, or saved the money on the ticket... But in the end she did like the show, more then she thought I guess, but I still don't think she would see it again, unless she got free tickets.

Yeah, they just can't relate. Since TLK has such a strong significance to us already, seeing the musical live on stage makes it like a hundred times stronger. I'd rather watch the musical once than see the movie ten times, and I'm sure a lot of people that have seen TLKOB would feel the same way.

Actually i didn't have anyone in mind when I purchased the tickets i'm re-selling now, I planned to re-sell them and *hopefully* make a little profit while giving a last-minute buyer a chance to see the show at a reasonable cost. I charge a LOT less than most other ticket brokers do, for instance I sold ORCH seats for less than $100 each when another seller was trying to sell 2nd Balcony seats for $171 each!!! That's crazy!

Heh, now all this talking about it has made me want to drive down a 3rd time to see it... I might raise the price a little to increase the chance that no one will buy so I have to go down again... meh we'll see I guess!

Well you know if I lived near Portland and I had the money I would love to go see it again with you. But yeah, I'll be in San Jose by then. But I'm just happy I got tickets in San Jose, second row.

Well, even if someone buys your tickets, imagine how happy that will make them. :)

It's too bad you couldn't see TLKoB with me and my friends on your birthday! Of course, San Jose is a little too far from where you live. ;)

Didn't you see those pics in the "Post Your Pic" topic? There are some pics taken from Disneyland this past summer... Also some pics of last May when STM, Brad, Eric and I were at my mom's house... Not such good pics though because of the cheap camera, but still fun to see. :D

Sharifu
September 23rd, 2005, 07:57 AM
Haha no... It's the same cast too. :p There is two touring casts in the US... One that stays on this side of the US. The other cast is playing in Alabama right now. But no it's not different, it's the same. All three times I've seen it, it's been the same cast. :p

Jeffy I never seen you on Yahoo anymore... I can't get on MSN on this computer... But oh well I'll have my laptop back when I go back to California this Sunday, then I can get back on MSN. XD
