because there are many types of maths but the subject is mathematics, so it seems more fitting for it to be called maths rather than math...

I perfer maths over math, but .. blah its math!!

We say it the way we want to say it. And, that's that!

Half the world says it one way, the other half says it the other way. It's only to add to the confusion that is math/maths :gasp: :jejeje:

Maths seems grammatically incorrect.

I have to agree with Xinithian, maths does sound grammatically incorrect. For example.."Do you need some help with your maths?" OR "Do you need some help with your math?"

We say "math" because American and English are two different languages. Why do people in Mexico say "manzanas" when Americans say "apples"?

If you really need an in-depth answer, it may be because European English focuses on the concept of mathematics as a group of different studies while American English speakers focus on mathematics as a single concept encompassing many things, but still one concept.

I dunno, maybe because in america something that ends with an s usually means more than one? Who knows, lol. Math, maths, they're all the same x.x

That's correct! And call it as it is: "I`m working on some geometry & calculus." That's a plural referent to mathematics. |MATHS| Take one type of math away from that sentence, then you have your singular referent to mathematics. |MATH|

Well, they say "American" and "English" are two different languages, and they pretty much are. =P

There are ALOT of words Brits use that Americans don't.... and vice versa.

It's the way we were taught. Why argue with the teachings, right?

Yeah I was never a fan of maths...or math...myself.

I once argued about the difference between a square number and a number squared to my maths teacher (I was young okay?) and she made me stand up in front of the class and we ended up having a big war of words...She was a little shocked I think; even though I was wrong she still wasn't used to people standing up to her!
:D

Ahh school was fun...
:p

Hows about we all just call it what it really is:

SCUM OF TEH EARTH!

...ok, not.
